Do you call your parents by their first names?
I thought of this topic after talking about it with my mother, Lisa. I've always called her by her first name since I was six or seven years old. It didn't fly well with my grandparents on both sides and friends of the family always thought I was disrespectful to my parents although they were cool with it. It's funny to say the least to see some people's faces because they are too stunned to say anything. But what people don't know is that I had a speech problem when I was younger, so it was easier for me to say their names than "Mom, Mother" and "Dad, Father" (I know, now I can say it but it was hard to do when I was younger) But, do you call your parents by their first names? I'll be relieved to know that they are others like me that do that.
Since I can speak, I call all the time my mother & my father "mum" & "dad", but I have friends who call his parents by their first name.
It's disrespectful to call them by their fisrt names, unless its a step parent. I call my parents mother and father in arabic. I really don't like the way mommy and daddy sound, I didn't grow up saying that.

Nope, I call both my mom and my dad by their "titles", and I'll be 21 this year. I've actually asked my mother if she'd prefer that I called her by her name, but she said that she'd probably be weirded out if I did! xP
I did have a classmate once who called her parents by their names, and one of my closest friends also calls hers by their names. It sounds a little awkward to me, and it's sometimes a little hard for me to connect that they're talking about their parents. But other than that I have no problem with it and don't think it's particularly impolite or disrespectful. I mean, as long as neither the parents or the children have no problem with it, why should anyone else?

No NO no , i call them MOM & DAD even if my age is 100 , i must respect them ^_^
Same goes for me as Cybil. But if I did call them by their names i'd be in BIGGG trouble!
I still call them as.. erm.. "Ma" and "Da" haha.. ;) I think I wont really call them by their first names, it just feels wrong. Aside from it being really wrong for me and in my country anyways. haha :)
Haha nop ._. they will puch my face .. i haven't tried.. even i'm not respectull with them, we have a lot of fights.. and i say a lot of things.. but i never thought about this, calling them by their names, it would be weird o.o i still call my mom as "mommy" ^^ .. i still love her even i say bad things.

I'm not sure i understand why it's so disrespectful to call your parents by their real names. but i'm almost 30 and i still call them mom/dad, personally i thinks it's more brain-washing than respect. i only started calling my aunts/uncles by their first name recently. it kinda feels weird saying auntie when i'm this old, makes me feel like i'm 5 again if i call her that. guess moms and dads fall in a different category.
I'd never think of calling my parents by their first name. Firstly, its disrespectful IMO and rude in our culture (*Is half Japanese, half Filipina and most from that culture understand how strict our cultures can be*), secondly, it'd feel weird calling my mum OR dad by their respective first names. Even as I get older, I doubt that I would ever call them by their first names. @~1@

...(nods...nods again...)...by the vast majority...I take all this as a "no". But, I'm suprised so many started giving their opinions on this...I thought no one would care.
Well..
never called my mom and dad by their first names.. seems too weird. Like my friend, that calls his dad like "Sir.." @~1@'. To formal.
My mom or dad never called me "daughter" ou something like that.. just "Bia" and that's fine for me.. but when they get mad at me.. all i hear is my full name. Dunno why... xD. But even in moments like that i still call them mom and dad..
