A WIP , but maybe complete ?

I'd like a bigger size, like 1024x768 or larger. It's easier to spot flaws. Well, I think the scan needs a bit more cleaning, like the top of Kenshin's head. I really dislike the background, the stripes are rather disturbing.

Extraction needs a fair bit of work. To get good extraction zoom in to about 800 times and cut away what you don't want with the polygon lasso tool. However, the image quality is generally quite poor, and the colours could do with some fixing up, so I thing you're probably best to go with vectoring or tracing the scan using the pen tool.
The edges of the scan seem to fade off for no apparent reason - it's like the scan runs out so you just faded it instead of considering the size of the scan in the wall. It'd probably look a lot better if the chara was clean up to the edges of the wall.
The faded duplicate thing is very old hat and cheesey, so I personally would loose it, but some people still seem to dig that sort of thing.
The stripes are too harsh. They're solid red and black and they really draw the eye, but not in a good way. If you go with a striped bg I'd try and pick colours out of the scan and then vary tht tone so that it's softer and lighter. Basically your scan wants to be the main focus.
Overall I'd say it's too simple, though. I'd consider going for something more in the scenic direction, tbh. Or if you go abstract, make it more visually appealing.
Hope that doesn't sound too harsh and gives you a few ideas :).
