This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

Guys, you have to check out this anime. For those of you who like drama and a little suspense, I'd recommend this. Also for those of you who have read the book and watched some of the movies, this is pretty interesting to watch in anime form. I've made three AMVs so far out of this anime because of how well executed it is. It brings the story to life in such a way that you can get hooked. Then again, not everybody is going to like it. Here's the beginning of it:

Albert and his friend Franz are traveling together in space, and their last stop was on Luna, The Moon. While they were there, Albert meet the very rich and famous Count of Monte Cristo. There, they became good friends, and the he helped the Count in coming down to Paris. What he didn't know was that the Count had a history with his father, a long one at that, and nothing could have prepared him for what would happen next.

Here's the link to the first episode if you're interested:

More so than the story itself (although the count of monte cristo is a pretty sweet story) I like the visual artistry this show has. The way the colors flow and blend is unlike any other animation style I have seen before. It is edgy, much like Noein was, in its execution. I also recommend.

I really enjoyed this anime. The visuals in it is INCREDIBLE!! It was this that got me to watch the anime. And the idea of setting the story in the future is also very interesting. One of those animes that is a must for you to watch. Go catch it if you have not!

Gankutsuou was AWESOME. I went in thinking it was going to be something crappy, but was blown away by its oriiginality (despite being based on another work), direction and art/animation style.

My only problem was the ending.

My only problem was the ending.

i agree, it was a very refreshing thing to watch, with its unique animation, dark themes, and a fast pace, but i really thought the ending just went haywire, totally seperating from the plot that had been built up. in the end, a whole lot of things were just left unexplained. i guess the original story must be much more detailed than what they showed in the anime.

It's gorgeous, yes, but I still don't exactly like it all that much. I guess my problem is that I liked the book, and I always get a bit iffy towards movies and shows adapted from books I liked. I don't exactly like how they changed Albert's character. He's too...whiny, I guess. In Count of Monte Cristo I liked Albert because he had this witty kind of sarcastic personality, although it was subtle -- considering the era and all. But for the anime, of course, they had to make him younger and more closely resembling your typical main character. He was more naive and needed looking after, and I don't think I really liked that.

Of course, I probably shouldn't be talking since I haven't finished the series yet (but considering I started it last year, that itself might be saying something -- either about the series or about my attention span).

Ahh.. The Count of Monte Cristo, the ultimate tale of revenge. I remember reading the novel when i was 13. Excellent book, i really liked it. My favourite book by Dumas.

When i first heard of Gankutsuou, i was like, "the future? outer space? whyyy are they bastardizing the Count of Monte Cristo!?" Ehh so i gave it a chance and watched it. The first thing i noticed was the artwork. It was awesome and really unique but was a bit hard to look at at first. Took me like 3 episodes to get used to it.

I was hooked on this one almost immediately. Great cast of characters, intircate relationships, traps named Beppo, Albert's shouting "Hakushaku!" all the time XD. Yaoi undertones lol. Althought different from the book, i think it's still a pretty faithful adaptation of the novel. I really enjoyed this one. Worth a buy and definitely worth a watch.

Mardis Gras on the moon, 'nuff said. Peppo is adorable (despite, well, you know...). An unfortunate incident involving a duel two thirds in killed me inside. Those rustic looking armored suits were a really cool addition. Seeing the 'plot' blow wide open was a very satisfying payoff for the relatively slow buildup. I also think the descision to focus on Albert made the story more sympathetic towards the people caught in the middle and much better for it.

All in all, this has become one of my new favorite shows.

The story is quite slow at the start I think. You have to watch a few more episodes to get into the swing of things. I thought the build up was quite slow but the visuals are certainly unique. I liked the dark plot and the adult theme makes a change to other animés.

I think his skin is blue because of the spirit that possessed him. He has to take that medicine doesn't he?

Is it just me or does the relationship between Albert and the Count seem yaoi-ish?

Gankutsuou is one of my favourite series of all time. I have almost all of the DVDs and I think Geneon did a pretty good job with it. The series also inspired me to read all 1200 pages of the actual novel. What an amazing story! Of course the novel was better (they always are ;) ) but I still adore the series.

I love it. Art design are so beautifully made. I read Count of Monte Cristo...this anime is best adapation of book.

have many good sences. I have all dvds. Plot turns out well until ending. Little problem with ending. I thought it went well at least, comparing with another anime *cough*LastExile*cough* I enjoyu most of it. Characters develop very well. I felt like they lieft out a little bit. At least we do know what happened to most of main characters at end. I felt they did not leave out anything important.

To me it is worth of my time. I want to steal some clothes from Gankutsou. Those clothes looks so cool. xD
