Though the first episode was mostly recap (although an interesting way to recap), which offset me a little (since I watched the first season not too far back), the second episode progressed nicely on 3 points (please don't end up like many other sequels...)

The episodes feel so short. usually i dislike any form of recap but the way they did it was almost ok. bah. i can't wait for the next episode, is that girl Hecate or not?
Geeze it wasnt a recap...just something Yuji was stuck up it..i wouldn't exactly call it a recap as much as it was part of the new plot..o w/e i dunnoo im just ram4bling now...*urusai urusai urusai*

I didn't enjoy the first season that much and it pretty much,as far as the action is concerned(and Bal Masqué,which by the way i think is a ridiculous name),seems the second season won't be much different...Yet it seems that there might be more character development and more emphasis on the love triangle(which seems to be becoming a love square for that matter) so guess this will be interesting to watch as it will be punctuated by the battles-i just hope this will turn out to be better than the first season...

The thing I found irritating is at the end of the first season you are left with a distinct impression that he heard shana say that she loved him. Though the first episode of the second season states that he didn't, to me it feels like they are trying to take it back so they can hype the "love triangle/square" a little more.

Well, he did have the exploding power of existance last season.
did anybody else think Hisai/ Hirai (sorry, forgot the name. xD) would give up after she realized that she couldn't get as close to Yuji as Shana could? it just seems...hopeless for her in that case.

i think you mean yoshida kasumi. hirai was a girl in the 1st ep of 1st season who got eaten by a tomogara. shana is hirai, she took over hirai's existence. and yea it actually does seem hopeless for her(yoshida) but they did make her to be bolder in expressing her feelings compared to shana. they even made yuuji a little doubtful and an air-head towards shana's feelings...
