Casette or CD?
1 Page: [ 1 ]
This posting it's about the battle that some time in the past the casettes wielded against the Cd's... by this time we know who won, but what do you think is the best? casettes or Cds?
I know cassetes have less memory space, but they were safer and longliver than CD, because of their plastic fieldforce that mantain them stripe-free (i don't know how to say it in English, in spanish they're called rayaduras) ...¬¬
Also they have sub-uses, for example, the cassetes could be used as a deadly thrwoing weapon, but the CD is a very cool toy for your dog (as a freesbee)...which one is the best?
For me, it's cool to remember past times when you put your casettes in the console, but the CDs are better: less space, more memory, better graphic quality; about the durability, well, we can make an effort and try to protect them with the super invention called boxes haha
tell us what you think!!

I can't tell you which i prefer, you make good points. but, i had problems with my dogs actually eating disks (my dog ate my Unreal GOTY).
The cassettes(or cartridges) are really durable compared to the CDs, but they are more prone to permanent data corruption, while this is never a problem with CDs (corruption due to Game Shark/Action Replay specifically). Another thing with cartridges is that they usually have to be loaded multiple times before they work after they aged a few years.
CDs, on the other hand, are extremely prone to scratches and other simple things like heat and radiation. Other than this, CDs are a admirable data storage device.
So, this leaves us back with the choice of durability over the quality of the stored data.

I collect the old original gameboy games and dont you love just putting them in your console.. them not working then violently snatching it out blowing into it smash it back in and reset the console.
cds are so fragile but are pp at data storage and look cool but if you get a scratch your bugerd, and when it doesn't work you carefully take it out gently spray disc cleaning formula onto it and without touching the shiny surface with your hands you optimisticly clean it and place is back in.

If you take care of DVDs/CDs, they will last A LOOONG time, believe me.
Also, they´re more transportable than cassetes, because of the small volume of this one. Not to forget the fact that CDs/DVDs are easier to copy :D *cheers*
Yep...I think CDs/DVDs are way better :3.

I'm sticking with the good old CD (not really as old as cassets)They are more realiable.
Cartridges right?
what do cassettes have to do with anything?

Yeah.. cartridges are more durable than cds(and less mess after falling from a high place)
I'll stick to cd/dvds are way better..
takes up less space and has a lot of space( for data and whatever!) ^^

I'll go with CDs. CDs are actually not as fragile as you think if you take good care of it. Just like what Balandor said,"If you take care of DVDs/CDs, they will last A LOOONG time, believe me." and that's true! CDs also have more advantages than casettes. They occupy less space but gives you more memory. They are more cool looking too!
You are right that CDs dont last as long as casettes, but the problem w/ casettes is that they are getting harder and harder to find, as well as the fact that you have no way of fixing them once they get damaged, where as when a CD gets damaged you just pop it in the CD Doctor. Another advantage of CDs is that you can just pop on a diskin and then they last forever.
I like cartridges better, but I don't think I'd like to play games nowadays with cartridges since they are so limited in space. I think Sony made the right choice when they decided to stick to discs and Nintendo was smart to follow and make their own disc system instead of a disc add on like they had originally planned on doing.

I agree that Nintendo made the right move sticking with cartridges for the N64 arguing that the hardware could not give gamers adequate load times. Of course the GCN was a bit odd, but I don't think it was a bad move, it was only percived was bad which then became bad as people touted the reduced size etc etc. Lets not forget that if you are a good programmer it will fit. Mario 64 was only 8MB and Conker's Bad Fur Day with all its amazing dialog and songs (great mighty poo song) and Zelda OoT were both 64 megabytes. Of course the reduced size and the medium drives up costs, but the load times for the PSX/PS1 were ridiculous.
Now that the hardware is able to deliver cartridge like load speeds, the days of the cartridge's days are limited to portables where I will always want it. Pocket lint and dirt are not easily avoided as they are at home.

I like CD more, even though its usually slower then cartridges, i rather have better graphics and etc. Especially those DS ones, i dont like them, they are too small and easy to lose.
Cartridges are sexy. Don't you love it when you put the cartridge in the console ? I can put it in and out, in and out, in and out xD.
