I watched the first episode and after it was like whoa~
It was really good, even though all the baddies are ugly ha ha
It's by GONZO (people who produced bakuretsu tenshi, gankutsuou, kiddy grade, hellsing, raxephon and many more)

Koga and Iga were ninja clans that had been fighting for 400 years. Gennosuke of Koga and Oboro of Iga, loved each other and promised to break down the cursed bond of conversion. However, they were destined to kill each other.

It was Keicho Era 19 (A.D. 1614), 73-year-old Ieyasu was wondering which of the brothers he should choose as a successor, Takechiyo or Kunichiyo. Takechiyo was the elder but he was stupid, while his younger brother Kunichiyo was clever. In order to choose the successor, Ieyasu decided to make Koga and Iga fight against each other. Both clans would choose ten best ninja to fight. If Kouga ninja survive, Kunichiyo would succeed to Shogun. On the hand, Takechiyo would become the next Shogun if Iga ninja win. Because Hattori Hanzo the first made them achieve a truce, they hadnâ??t had an apparent fight for years. Therefore, when the truce was broken, they went for fights as if they were unleashed hound dogs. The only weapon they use were their own bodies. They had special abilities that men could hardly imagine.

Now that, the battles of twenty ninja including old, young, men, and women began. They made most of their special abilities to fight. During the harsh battles, they were killed one by one. Which would win, Koga or Iga? Who in the world would survive? Then, what would become of the love of Gennosuke and Oboro, who were separated by the battle.

It was bizarre at first, but wow, what an ending. o.o And it was only the first episode! I'm not big on violence and all that blood flying around, but I actually liked this quite a bit. I think I'll be keeping up with this series. ^^

This kinda reminds me of Ninja Scroll, freaks killing freaks using amusing methods. how original :zzz:

The first episode looked great visually, although the content wasn't really my cup of tea. It is nice to see more series with this type of unsparing violence, I guess.

It's interesting and boy what an ending...I think I'll keep watching this just to see how it turns out.

I heard it was animated by GONZO and i HAD to check the manga out! *__* i loved the damn art.

Woah i didn't know this was from gonzo XD (me is soo dumb) i saw some screens with an old ugly lady that was a little uhm o_O but when i saw the katana at anidb poster image i was in love XD;; (

Really great first episode, I hope the following ones will have the same animation !

And the story is also good, and the music too. So it makes a very good anime from Gonzo.I was a bit disappointed by Speed Grapher (I don't like the atmosphere) but with Basilisk I'm relieved.

It's a shame but I only know the main characters from the history thanks to Samurai Deeper Kyo (Ieyasu, Hatori ...)

...I think because she was a master ninja ^o^;
Or maybe because her will to kill the guy still kept her
going =____=; scary

Watched the second episode...I'm quite amazed how ruthless both ninja groups are and the grandchildren aren't o_0!!
I hope their ending won't turn out the same as their grandparents ...>___

Same for me. It's really good and I like this a lot but the animation kinda shocked me. I'm used to the big huge eyes and funks hair but this is like old animation and I think it really suits the story. The old people rule! XD

Yes, basilisk is pretty cool. dark and creepy looking (not what i expected)...but it seems GONZO seems to be doing this now. moving on into more adult stuff. otherwise, GONZO is my fav :love: animation studio...so i watch everything and anything they put out.

Can anyone summarize what happens in episode 2?

I wonder how long Basilisk will be able to keep up its current standard of animation. Not only are the battles fluid (almost OVA or movie quality), but the character designs are also extremely detailed, with a ton of depth and intricate lines and multiple layers of shading. It must be a pretty expensive show to animate.
