Making Manga
Has anyone tried making their own manga? I did once but I was so tired out after drawing and inking 3 pages! I now have higher praise for all manga artists out there.
Also, I seem to notice that in many Japanese manga, not the American versions, they include colored manga pages. I'm not talking about colored posters but actual manga pages. An example would be Chobits. Why do they only do the first few pages in color? Also, those pages resemble watercolors.
Which brings me to my next question. I seem to notice some colored screentones at online manga creation shops. Does anybody have scans to official manga that uses these colored tones?

I've always wanted too. I currently have some stories in progress, but I can't draw. :( I plan to go in collaboration with someone, but that certain someone is usually very busy most of the time. =_=

Color first pages are pretty common in manga, especially manga that appear in the 'phonebook' style monthly anthologies. The color pages are printed in a different type of paper, glossy, instead of the typical newsprint, and are used as a way to separate each series within the anthology, plus it gives the artist a spot to explore more than just black and white. However, color also tends to be a lot more time consuming (especially those that use a more watercolor style) and it's also expensive to print every page in color; hence most pages of manga are black and white with screentones.
Not too sure about the colored screentones part myself, having never used screentones. Most of the color manga art I can think of tends to be either CG, watercolor, or cel-style, I can't really think of an example with colored screentones, although they sound fun to play with.

I'm thinking of making my own manga... but it seems so different and tedious... and the fxs... that's confusing...i need to get off my lazy arse and start someimte...
^ ^actually i have but i have no idea how to start my story,hehe.after that i realized manga artists are really good for drawing many pages of the same characters in good perspectives.i don't know the answers to some of those questions but i wonder to,hehe.

I'm of a storymaker than an artist, but I always imagined that making a manga would be insanely difficult. I have massive amounts of respect for anyone that can pull of a good manga.

I'm not sure if every mangaka is like that, but usually, the main artist comes up with the character, draws many views of it, and then comes up with a rough storyboard. Then, many other people help and draw the rest of the frames, based on the views. So basically, the mangaka doesn't do much of it. =X

But some mangaka have no assistants and do everything by themselves, those are miracle workers @_@
i tried drawing a page... and it stank XD i'd draw more but i'm so lazy and so motivationless. i've only seen greyscaled screentones on sale and used in tutorials. i never had thought that colour screentones even existed o_o

I;m working on one...but i've been to busy to finish it^^;;
I don't think there are coloured screentones. Methinks they color the screentones digitally; after scanning the toned inked draft.
That's weird. I did a search at Comictones.com but they don't have colored screentones anymore. I was sure I saw some colored ones a long time ago. Weird. Anyway, are all screentones adhesives? I have this cheap drawing book I bought from China and it has several pages of what seems like screentones, or patterns. But it's not adhesives, it's just printed directly onto the page. -_-"
Also, how do manga artists know how big to make one manga volume? Do they have a limit? How do they know when to stop to complete one volume?

i think they have a limit. series in shounen jump rarely exceed 19-20 pages. while other magazines seem to be the same, having a fixed number of pages per chapter.

i guess it depends on the publisher whether they want a 100-page volume or 200-page one, not sure about this. so they'll put the number of chapters to meet the volume page limit or the number of chapters that fit the theme of the volume.
