How would u define art??
Art is a very commonly used word in a site like this. but what really is art? what does this word signify? what are the limitations to the concept of art? how can we differetiate between what is art and what is not??
I believe an art is expression of a product constructed and formed by one's discipline to their craft.
Crafts that can range from vocal harmonics, literature, hand-drawn or graphic visuals, architecture, athletics, instrument, engineering, combat, dance, and the list goes on and on.
Discipline is the key that makes some stand out in these fields extraordinary. The patience to learn the craft of the work you are passionate about is essential to the success which is art.
Well......that's just my point of view of course.

Ok, some people might think i'm weird for saying this, but for me, art is patience. after having taken about 3 years of art as an school elective, one thing im sure of is that it requires a LOT of time. lol, thats just my opinion though.

The one thing that pops to mind to art is designing it. Any art needs to be designed, so anything designed would likely be art, although it's not strictly speaking that everything has to be designed to be art, I just can't think of any 'art' that doesn't need to be designed.

I guess I am almost exactly different from Jenny there. For me art is an explosion of inspiration, the faster and more ferocious the fulmination the the better. I believe art is not about the end result, but how you go about creating it! Just me though.. :3
hmmm let me see,For me art is a vision that you see in your mind and then brought to life on paper. Like a beautiful painting of an out this world kingdom or something like that, lol. Yeah art is ones own design like some of the wallpapers that we see here. I've been to the artist alley forum and they've got some pretty good art there to me.
To me, art is something created by someone. You create a painting or a sculpture, or a drawing. It is meant for other people to look at and appreciate it for what it is. I often try to hide my art when I'm around people, but I still post it online. Maybe not everyone shows their art, but someone might find it eventually.
Well i think the word "art" is simply a representation of someones way of thinking. It is the way to express emotions through a graphic or lyrical way. About the limitations, the limitations of "art" are the exact same limitations of the human mind, the creativity itself is the limit of what can be expressed through art. Or at least thats what i think.
Art is what we see as 'beautiful'
It is also our expression to a certain objects, subjects or conditiions around us. They are alive and inspring...

I think I agree more with altopowa. To me art is everything that has been said, something designed, created, inspirational, or even immediate and expressive. Art is more of a feeling to me though as opposed to a thing. It's the emotion that people receive from viewing or experiencing something that makes it art. The feelings it evokes in people whether it be public art like paintings, wallpapers, or video games.
Or rather it be something more personal that is only meant for the person that created it. No matter what medium of art one is talking about emotions can't be left out of the equation and are the very basis of art itself.

Art doesn't have to beautiful
the defining moment?
When you are arty farty enough to head into a gallery and say "you know, that statue as bad as it looks still looks beautiful."
art in a tin can.

Art as I would interpret, as it pertains to this site -
A quality of expression that is extraordinary, as defined by the aesthetic criteria(principles) of this website. If you want a more personalized definition, peer reviewed self expression, succinctly defines my interpretation of Art.

Well, one should never leave a definition in they eyes of the beholder. To do so is demeaning the word itself and distinctions must be made, at least in one's own mind.
I say, Art encapsulates the emotions and personality of the artist and is unrestrained in technique and character.

Art is something you express your feelings or emotions without using words.
In my point of view, pictures without deep meanings are not art, but only drawings.

I was once told that art was a communication between human souls.
That's when I decided to drop out of art school.
