I personally feel that guns are neither good nor bad. They're good for personal protection, target shooting, law enforcement, military, and just shooting bottles out in the middle of no where. I don't understand people who are scared by guns--the only time anyone should be afraid of a gun is when he/she is looking down the barrel.

This whole "guns are bad" syndrome is a waste of time. The only reason guns are labeled as "bad" is because bad people get ahold of them and do bad things.

It's easy to blame an inatimate object, but people are too cowardly to blame the individual who pulled the trigger because they are afraid of the "consequences", which would at worst be verbal assault by other people.

Thats an interesting subject, I see lots of controversy on that, but as you mentioned people are too eager to blaim an object for problems in life. Yet, this one object was made for one single purpouse: firing a small steal (whatever I don't know it's components) piece at extremely high speeds, often with a piercing effect. This single use can be used only for one thing: hitting a target and doing damage/destroying it.

The protective effect of a weapon is actually only psicological, like, people are afraid of weapons, and thus if there is a armored person at a bank, or your military is well armed, people will think twice before doing anything against it. The weapon itself will be useless if someone assault you because all you can actually do with it is, if you have the chance, to fire first. Most often, people who attack will fire first since they planned it. You cannot protect anything, when it come to an event, with a gun.

My belief thus is not if a gun (object) is good or bad, or if we are going to blaim people for misusing it, but I actually think they never should have created it. They exist only to escalate fear and terror.

Two persons arguing without a gun, regardless if one of them is a moron or not, will probably not end in a death. Two armed persons arguing, if one of them is a moron, can end in death.

You can neither blaim the gun nor the person (stupid people exist, and we cant just blaim them for having less brain power, that happens), but the fact that weapons existed in the first place, or that the government let them have it is where the real culprit lies.

I hope one day governments will understand that only military and police should bear arms. I am tired of hearing on the news that the most majority of deaths from firearms that are not related to wars or police are often accidental or passional crimes, that would not end in death should the "criminal" didnt have a gun (with authorization).

I am one against guns. But thats me, I believe most people think they are safe with a gun ... I am not, even if I were an ace with it, the fact that I have it would make anyone who knows that to fire before I have a chance to show them I am an ace with that lol

Can I ask protection from what? How can you make sure the final purpose of the guns is going to be safe?

A shield or armor is for protection, a gun is for attack.

I think this is relative and I think everything has a good side and a bad side. If you are a good guy/girl you wont use a gun for bad things and if you're a bad guy/girl you won't use it for good things. But mostly I agree with Ryuu

Like any other tools, good or bad depends on the usage and intention of the one who handles it. But guns and weapons in general is quite problematic since it was designed specifically to hurt / kill.

I'm a gun freak myslef, so you'd think my answer would be biased. But in truth, whenever faced with that same question, I just ask myself what the gun was truly invented for: and that is to tear through flesh, bone, brain matter and sinew in hopes that the target, whether that ba an assailant or a victim would be incapacitated or killed. Only after the gun was made that people did find other more acceptable uses such as recreation. I like guns, yes, but its the improper distribution and handling that I'm very much against.

Quite simple, you can't. Neither can you prevent bad guys from using knives or pencils to poke your eye out. I't just that the gun is the most prevalent and demonized weapon.

Allthough I usually don't agree with guns... I like the variety, the interesting attributes & the sheer power which stands in the palm of ones hand...
All that can make 1 mad... so I don't agree with the misuse of it... yes it may B 4 protection but as I remember there was a phrase that went like this: "thaw shall not kill..."
I agree with the injuring of a robber, or some1 who comits a fellony... or a vicious assasin... or a serial killer... or a rapist... No wait... you could shoot the last 3...

Like the others have said, it depends on how you use it. If you use it to protect people, then that's a good thing, but if you use it for assassinating or just killing people, then that's the bad thing about guns.

Well if someone is breaking in your house and decides they want to rape or kill you what are you going to do-talk your way out or just scream? If you have a gun you would first make sure they arent a relative or boyfriend and then shoot the person coming at you to hurt you. Otherwise you are basically defenseless especially if you live alone-and calling the cops takes too long and if your phone lines are cut then what are you going to do? Responsible people need their own weapons because I guarantee the bad guys all have lots of guns and wont hesitate to shoot you or hurt you to get what they want--I know I work with these people everyday.

I prefer a sword. No guns. They are for cowards. I am against war but when you WANT to make it atleast stay a little bit more respectfull to eachother. You can kill people with a gun from a distance that is unfair. Use swords i would say. And challenge the person that you want to fight with. Bow or whatever you like and then make a fair fight.

In my opinion it does not depend on the object but on who use it...

Ooh...a good question. Guns are great for shooting and everything but for protection...I wouldn't really say so. ^^ I guess this arguement could go both ways...but maybe its both?
Good because you can use it to scare a predator or soemthing but bad b/c it could be used wrongly and kill someone or soemthing..or you can even hurt yourself. ^^"

i dont know, cause its really difficult, to decide whether
it's good or bad, but one thing is true, that anything can
be used for good purposes and bad purposes, so you
can't say that it is bad or good,

in my opinion, i think if its used in the right way its "ok",
but i still disagree using amunition and weapons, it
doesn't show your true strenght, and courage, its pointless,
just think about it, if a man is trying to kill you and he is
armed, and you have nothing to defend yourself, then
your history, dead before you know it, what kind of justice
is that, people can simply show you the gun and take
something from you meaning stealing or killing, thats when
you realize how useless you are against just one bullet of
a mere gun, its mostly used in a wrong way rather than
the right way, and i dont think using guns in anyway is right,
whether you use it for defending or fun, it still ends up
taking other's life, i wished that never such a weapon
should have been created, or any other, true strengths
come from inside when you want to protect something
you love, to fight for it, mono to mono, hand to hand not
using weapons, it just shows how you scared and weak
you are,

but i guess living in this era we dont have much of a choice,
i wish there was a better way of protecting oneself than this.
