Console or PC?
1 year 5 months ago
Well when i heard about Haze,KIll zone 2 or Gears of War 2 are going to be released soon i was happy ... well only about 3 seconds because they are all only for PS3 or XBOX 360.
Well here comes question...WHY?
I started playing since i was only 6 years old on video games, then i bought playstation 1 and finally after that i get my first PC with windows 98. I was 12 years old back then.
I never needed to think about consoes again...until now.
But what is that think makes consoles so special? Is that visualization, brutal 3 core processor power or that it's classic gaming? In my opinion only the 3rd option.
I always have better gaming experience than console users as in Crysis...Maximum game? :D ...well yeah i must say so.
Why is this bercool game never been released for consoles? Answer is very simple and that is just ... well consoles don't have even Direct X 10.1 so how can you think about
graphic revolution? ... and this is what makes our two game machine types so different.
This was how they are...but now we will take a look under the hood
My PC: ATi MSI RX 3870 OC (GPU 800MHz) XBOX 360: ATi Xenos (GPU 500MHz)
My PC: AMD Athlon X2 6400+ BE (3,2 GHz,2Mb cache) XBOX 360: IBM Xenon X3 (3.2 GHz,1Mb cache)
My PC: HDD 250GB and 120GB XBOX 360: HDD 20GB or 120GB
My PC: 8x USB 2.0,Firewire XBOX 360: 3x USB 2.0,IR port
and i can have 4 Graphic cards and 4 core processor ... well you can't upgrade it.
Results are like this...consoles still has their magic but you can't upgrade them and after few years they will get old in graphic and CPU power. Well that can be even sooner then you all expecting because PS3 and XBOX360 are without DX10.1 and that will make new grade of experiences in gaming world.

The whole point is that there are so many different PC configruations, it's hard for developers to make a game that will run on all of them. At the same time, gamers don't want to upgrade their system every time in order to play a game on full. A console solves this all. When you buy a PS3 game, you know it'll run on your PS3. It's a 2 way problem that will eventually destroy PC gaming.
By the way, I'm a PC-only gamer, so I'm really sad about this whole development either. It's a shame developers are too shortsighted or lazy to not invest in the superior gaming platform the PC still is or can be.

Well, you see, it depends, its often the noobs who will buy consoles since their reflexes aren't good enough to handle a keyboard and a mouse at the same time, hence the console fanboys, sigh at them.
PC's will always be of preference to me, yes yes, I do have an Xbox 360, but I will only play Xbox 360 exclusive games on it (Such as Forza Motorsport 2). I Also use it as a wireless media center.
So, stick with your PC, it may be more expensive but theres alot more to do on a PC.

*opens mouth to speak, then stops and sighs*
I can't actually reply to this without being banned, so I just want to state that I think your view of the situation is narrow-minded and idiotic.
Wow, moto101 your ego went a bit out of control.
Be a brave guy and take it down a bit.
I know exactly what Orchid was refering too.
Such an idiotic and narrow-minded opinion is really hard to understand and even harder to reply to.
Do you really thing that you're some kind of "Super Gamer" just because you prefer PC's over Consoles? Consoles users didn't have good reflexes? Are you kidding me?!
There are a lot of opinions why some might prefer the PC and others consoles.
1. Games
Different platforms, different games.
I never liked games for the PC and this didn't have anything to do with my reflexes.
I don't like them cause I don't like the stories or the settings etc.
There are just a few I got for PC and this only because I couldn't get them for my consoles.
2. PC
Not everyone has a PC with the required hardware to play newer games. My PC is old and newer games aren't running on them. Yes, I could easily buy a new Graphic Card, a new RAM or even a new PC. Do you know why I didn't? New PC's are expensive! Much more expensive than a good console!
3. Consoles
Next Gen Consoles like the PS3 have much better graphics as a PC in my opinion.
Not to mention the Wii: Can you interact like this on a PC Game?
Can you see what I'm trying to say?
It's like always: Different people, different tastes.
You can also say: Live and let live.
You might prefer the PC, I prefer consoles for the above mentioned reasons.
And just as a little sitenote:
I'm not a noob in Games! I've played them since I was 10 years old. And should I say something again: The first game I played was on a console!

Its 50 50.
Some games are meant for pc.
Some are meant for consoles.
If all of them are for pc,
What's the point of making consoles?

...if making gmaes for the PC is so hard, then why has EA succeeded in making their last several Need for Speed titles multi-platform? They have that series on just about every console imaginable, on both the 6th and 7th generation. Either EA is just that kick ass of a company or others are just too lazy, or actually both.
I don't see why companies shouldn't split their games over all the consoles and PC's (unless they're really, REALLY anal about using the Wii's controllers which I've embarrassed myself on). If they sell it multi-platform wouldn't they get more money (even though they may have to spend more making it for the different consoles).
I'm a total PC guy and have never been interested in console games. If I buy a PS3, it's a PS3, everyone else has it, but if you build a PC, all the combination of parts make up for a unique, customized PC that hardly anyone else has. It's the way I buy my stuff - I don't buy stuff that everyone else has.
I guess companies aren't willing to make games for the PC because they think it'll be too much for the hardware to handle and they think consoles will always be better and they're too lazy to make a PC version of the game.
If you can't afford to build a new PC, then I guess you'll have to spend tons of $$ on something that can only play games, music and video when I can listen to music when I write my essays for school. In the end, the wide capabilities of a PC, for me, is way more than enough and to me the console is something totally unnecessary.

PC > Consoles <------ Always True
BUT! There are people like me whose computer cannot take many games because they're bargin bin computers, so to make up for that, you buy a console.

I feel a flame coming on...

It depends on what games are available. Since I am mostly on my computer, I prefer PC games with online play. Most mmorpg doesn't require a powerful pc and so it seems to me more people play online pc games. It's more interactive. Then again, there's also a lot of fun games on the wii and playstation that the PC doesn't have. They're both equally good except when it comes to new pc games, which requires $$$$ pc. SIGHS
I completely agree with GoldenApe,it just costs to much to play games on your PC.
Plus game developers know that their game will make tons of money on just a console, why waste time and money trying to get it on the PC when alot of people won't be able to play it anyway because of lack of a good computer.Half the PC games out now practically require a super computer to play.

Also if they make their games exclusive to one console people will buy the console for it more wich makes them more money. It doesn't work that way with PC's.
Personally, I think the assertion that you'd buy a console because your computer sucks is funny. I've got a quad-core Penryn at 3.8GHz, 4GB of memory, and an 8800GT, and I almost never play PC games. Sorry I don't like endless torrents of bullshit FPS' and mind-numbing RTS games. Also, considering a current-gen console will run you three or four hundred dollars (or more), and you can get a P35 mobo, Core 2, 9600GT, and 2GB of RAM for that, your "logic" kind of falls apart.

Maybe you don't understand why people want consoles, hmm probably because some games are console exclusive. Guess that one passed you by. Then there's people like me who don't have a high-powered PC and cannot run games like CoD 4, so I have to buy it for the 360 to play it.
ChrysSome games are meant for pc. Some are meant for consoles.
Gears of War is a good example of this actually. The controls for that game were pretty solid for the 360 controller, and when it came over to PC there was no point. Everyone already had CRAP-O 3 and the PC didn't really make the controls that better. Also, Metroid Prime anyone? That had a pretty solid control system, and Nintendo tends to shiver at the mentioning of PC.
Long...if making gmaes for the PC is so hard, then why has EA succeeded in making their last several Need for Speed titles multi-platform? They have that series on just about every console imaginable, on both the 6th and 7th generation. Either EA is just that kick ass of a company or others are just too lazy, or actually both.
They are not a kick-ass company. EA tends to not really care about the games it releases, just keeps releasing the same game over and over again on all-platforms, please see the Need For Speed, Burnout, Medal of Honor, and ALL their sports games. Releasing games on multiple consoles is only a ploy to maximize profits, and for BIG BIG companies like EA, it works. Once the consumer wakes up and realizes what crap they clunk out every year, then maybe they'll care again.
LongI don't see why companies shouldn't split their games over all the consoles and PC's (unless they're really, REALLY anal about using the Wii's controllers which I've embarrassed myself on).
It's really a company-by-company policy. I mean, the PS 3 is not FPS heavy, so of course a lot of FPSes will not find their way to the console. Also, there's the fact that production costs vary in between consoles. The 360 production costs are decent, and the games are not a bitch to program like the motion sensor Wii. The PS 3 is VERY cost heavy though, and it normally takes more time to make a game for it, which is why it is title-lacking at the moment. The PC is easily the easiest thing to make a game for, as it's all C++ and what not. This is also why there's a lot of PC-to-360 and vise versa games because both consoles are running the same hardware/programming.
LongI guess companies aren't willing to make games for the PC because they think it'll be too much for the hardware to handle and they think consoles will always be better and they're too lazy to make a PC version of the game.
This is because the PCs that can run things like CoD 4 require a completely different and completely complex engine. The problem lies in the fact that the casual PC gamer has passed onto the consoles now, since they are generally cheaper and do not require any extraneous installs or manual patches. This leaves us hardcore tech followers, who are going to demand HD monitors and a Crysis-like engine, which only drives up the cost and time it takes to make the game.
LongIn the end, the wide capabilities of a PC, for me, is way more than enough and to me the console is something totally unnecessary.
Well I only spent $400 on my PC and I play some casual games and music and do work on it and what not. However, now that most companies are multi-platforming, it essentially kills the PC market because the console is cheaper and more user friendly. Call of Duty 4 is a great example. My $400 PC cannot play it, it just can't handle it, but for the same $400 I can get a 360. This makes it much much most cost-effective to buy the 360 and the game and play it on there.

Well I don't really know how to follow on from Spudsy2061 since he put it so nicely. :P
Some of the comments above are quite simply silly and not worth commenting on so I'll give my opinion on the console and PC discussion.
I started off a console gamer and I'm sure for 90-95% of gamers around the world that also applies to them.
I do play games on both PC and consoles now but to be honest I don't have the luxury of upgrading my PC every 6 months to run the latest game on the highest resolution but saying that I know not all of us care if the game is running on the highest setting or not, fact of the matter in the life expectancy of a graphics card is about a year to a year and a half. By that I mean you won't be able to run the latest games even on the lowest settings after a year and a half.
Graphics cards alone are now costing more then a console, does that make sense to you? Didn't think so. When you consider all that you get with a console, in the long term it's a better investment then a PC. That's saying if you're thinking about the gaming aspect side of things (this is about playing games not if I can word process a document).
I heard there has been a decline in the sales of PC games (maybe someone can find out if this is true), yeah FPS and RTS games always sell well but some games companies realise that some genre's of games just won't sell well.
Overall if you want the best of gaming then you'll need the best of both worlds that is owning a console and a PC. I use my PC a lot and play a few games every now and then but honestly the best multi-player games are those that have your friends or family in the same room playing a four player game as opposed to playing online (yeah I know there are some people you'd like to play and it's not possible unless it's over the internet).
Also like it's been mentioned we all have different tastes so I know some can relate to what I'm saying and some can't, just go with what you feel comfortable with and enjoy it.
