Girls Playing video games

Honestly, Online games don't even "count" as far as I'm concerned. Anyone can play as anyone in those kind of games. I'd be more in awe if a girl played a "typical guy game" like Doom/Quake or a Fighting Game like Guilty Gear or maybe Street Fighter.
...And was actually good at it.

Gaming has gone mainstream now, gone are the days that all gamers were adolescent males who knew what command prompt was and played text based rpgs. A far wider variety of ages and both genders now play both video games and computer games. Therefore it is no large surprise that girls play online games.

You know that FPSs are often played online now right? Or do you mean like MMOs or online mahjong and that kind of stuff?
You guys should youtube Mila Kunis' (that 70's show, Meg from Family Guy) interview with Jimmy Kimmel about her role in the Max Payne movie, she really knows her stuff about WoW and actually came off as quite nerdy in it lol.
If I didn't have an older brother, I probably never would have gotten into video games.
Most of my friends aren't interested in video games what-so-ever.
It's insulting that guys who got beaten by a girl is being made fun of by other guys.
I'm not so great at playing video games, but I saw a lot of girl gamers who likes games like Halo.
When I was a kid, I always lost to my brother. He'd laugh at me, and I got mad but we still played despite the fact of me keep losing. There was one game which was a soccer game and that I always won against him. He got mad and said one more round everytime.

I'm not much into online gaming myself (but more because of lack of time than lack of interest. Someday, I will try games as big as WoW).
Still, when the guys start acting up I just laugh it away.
Although I'm not into sex jokes, I do understand the urge to freak people out. Especially when protected by a layer of pixels.
Those who ARE serious can be ignored.
Or beaten.
*Smiles*

I know alot of girls that play games, (wow in this case) and if someone gives them shit, they go /ignore name. its that simple.
Some girl gamers are super hot! the girl i like right now is sooo beautiful but shes played a lot of comes and can have a good game conversation and i am so amazed. She does sports and all too. So I think the stereotypes are pretty much gone in this case. And yes, guys should stop harassing girls online.. it's not very nice!

A lot of guys can pretty stupid. Especially in games like Halo. Most of them are nerds or geeks who have had no chance with a girl they like so they see a pretty character online, and they assume that the player is a hot girl. It could be an average girl, a really cute girl, a girl they might find ugly or even a guy. And they try not to kill the girl and friend request the girl. Kinda creepy. Haha and I found a Halo parody video on Youtube that shows a perfect example of that.
But girls who play video games are awesome; they don't get bored or annoyed if you play and they are fun to play against. Just as long as you keep things not so competitive and get too absorbed into the game...

Its the 21 century already, there is nothing wrong with girls doing this or that. But it is true that gamers are freaks, i include myself in this.
My only online experience playing a video game is MapleStory, and although I haven't experience it before, I have heard of random people asking other random people to be their boy/girlfriend when they have never interacted beyond being on the same screen. Sometimes the same thing goes for the people who get "married." Which I find funny, as most of the time, they're doing it for the benefits of being married. I feel that girls also do get certain advantages of being female, although some people are less than polite, as you mentioned, when adressing females.
But I feel that, since this is all done online and there is no "real" interaction, the best thing to do is to ignore those people and go and kick their video game arses.

Well, actually i do know girls who can answer such questions way better than a guy and make the "attacking" person to really shut up.
Though it IS and issue that female gamers are being (verbally)"harassed" way more than male ones they are mature enough to defend themselves according to the situation.Friend of mine who plays Lineage II nearly humiliates guys who dare to go against her verbally in-game.So it is really up to the person on how they will handle the situation.
Hope i helped you clear things out in your head.

Hello Kitty Online, a good game for girl and kids.
Yeah, that's horrid. But I think not all girls mean that way.

For online games, I think some female gamers are reluctant to disclose their real gender in game because they get harrassed often by the larger male population in games. This leads to a perceived smaller female player base and even more harrassment.
For console games, a pro girl gamer is pretty rare since less girls play games than guys. Perhaps most games in the past were designed in a way that appeal to guys more such as having a male main character in the game but that is slowly evolving to include female characters nowadays.

I've noticed a lot more girls playing video games recently. I used to have guitar hero 3 in my dorm room and girls would come over all the time wanting to play. Then Rock Band hit... and a lot of time went to playing games with my friends. But those aren't the only games I've had girls come over and play. There was also DDR, Mario Kart on the Wii... actually, a lot of my Wii games, as well as one girl who whooped my ass in Soul Calibur 3, took me a month to match her skill level... then she learned how to actually use Ivy's combos... so it's fair to say girls got game when it comes to gaming.
I originally got my sister into gaming with the N64 and Mario Kart and Mario Party, then DDR for the PS2. However, she's gone ahead and bought a few more games and plays occasionally when she's got nothing better to do (usually Saturday and Sunday afternoon and nights when she doesn't go out. Also, my mom wanted a Wii, so I ended up giving her mine after I finished my previous semester and it turns out she enjoys playing a lot of the party games like Wii sports, Mario Olympics, and some cooking game. Ironic how ten years ago my mom was telling me that video games were bad for me. :-P
