Will the PS3 die???
Of course it would hurt. Would you pay 100 more dollars if backwards compatibility is back again? That's why that function was removed from more recent PS3 models.
Though I heard there may be a firmware update that will implement backwards compatibility by emulating the PS2 software, but nothing has been confirmed so far.
In any case, if such thing doesn't happen I wouldn't mind. I already have my (big) PS2 and it still works perfectly.

I accept PS3 is likely won't be ever leading console of this generation because of Wii but PS3 won't be dying because of it. It's just PS3 seem get better as there are more new exclusive games to be release, keep improve console system and hardcore Playstation fans etc. Also PS3 have a potential to beat Xbox360 in term of total worldwide sales in the future.

I don't think the PS3 is in any danger of dying. It doesn't really have less exclusives than the 360, just different exclusives; the majority of games for both are multi-platform anyway, so if you have access to both, it's usually just a matter of which system you prefer to play your games on. Both systems are still putting out exclusives (two PS3 exclusives I can think of at the moment are Demon's Souls and Uncharted 2). I haven't really been keeping up with that many 360 and PS3 games lately because I've mostly been playing my DS.
I have both systems, and there are games I enjoy for both that are exclusive to each system. I love Valkyria Chronicles and Folklore on the PS3 and Lost Odyssey and Star Ocean on the 360 (Yeah, RPGs are my favorite games. ^_^).
IMHO the PS3 has the advantage of doubling as a Blu-Ray player, and the 360 has an advantage in its lower price point (mine is an Arcade version with a used HDD).

kyosukeIf I remember correctly, back in the day a lot of developers were complaining a lot because the support from Sony was... null, and the really complex PS3 programming didn't help in changing their opinion. In top of that, the development kits they received were all in japanese, no guidelines or anything in english.
This changed a while ago. Those reports are years old, Sony have been putting some extra funding into helping small time indie developers create and publish games on the PSN for a good couple of months now and also, while the programming of the PS3 may still be a pain in the butt they're apparently more than helpful. I've heard more than one report from varying studios saying that once they picked up the phone and asked Sony for some help on it, Sony were more than helpful and tried their best to get the game up and starting and running just fine.
Of course, it's all a little late for this now as they really needed to get their crud into gear at the beginning of the war/race but what's done is done. Of course, the war belongs to Nintendo technically (though I don't really consider them a proper "gaming" company anymore but that's a different subject) now but PS3 is still going strong in a very big field and industry now.

There will be some games only for the PS3, i would like to buy one just to play Valkyria Chronicles and the next KH, but most of the games for this console will be available in Xbox360.
I wonder if the PS3 will be more than a cheap blueray.

No offense, we've crossed this topic already if you actually took your time and read through the whole discussion. Long story short, you're wrong. There's exclusives to both sides, both sides having good quality exclusive games to establish each brand.

Yes, it will die, and something new will replace it
The PS3 will not die. Sony has a lot of muscle behind it still and there are still many years left on this console generation. If nothing else, it's still one of the most widely used Blu-ray players, and there are still plenty of excellent exclusive titles.
That being said, I own an Xbox360 and a Wii, but not a PS3. When the PS3 slim comes out, I will be very tempted to get one.... (I'm a late adopter in general). Up to this point, there hasn't been enough incentive for me to buy one, but I'll have to re-evaluate for the slim PS3.

The PS3 is a good sell because of the blu-ray. It's the cheaper blu-ray player on the market.
So when other brands of blu-ray player will do cheaper stuff, the PS3 should take a big hit. But i'm not worried cause 'till then the console will have a lot of good games at a better price than now.

It has the benefit of a free online play platform, an ever-improving install base and cheaper manufacturing costs.
As it progresses, the rocky start will be fixed by the later game sales. Sony has made a habit of coming out with something really cool about a year earlier than they should have.
Sega did that too, except they were two years ahead of everybody else, and nobody was ready to adopt buggy, unready technology :P

The PS3 won't die
Recently Sony releases a slim version. I think the Wii will die because there aren't many games for the Wii. Compared with the computing power of theses consoles the Wii is the most expensive.

With the recent price drop and the announcement of the slim I cant see the PS3 dieing. In my opinion, the argument "it's too expensive" or "i cant afford" it is no longer valid since now all three consoles are priced almost the same. The Wii is still 250 dollars and only a mere 50 less than the PS3.
Then there's the solid lineup of PS3 exclusives.

I don't see the PS3 dying anytime soon. Sony has never failed with the PS1 and PS2 and the PS3 has been releasing some great games. I'm still surprised the X-Box actually made it when it was first released but it's still there with no signs of defeat. Sony should lower price of their console even more.
ForteAnlySony should lower price of their console even more.
I really, really doubt you're going to see lower than $299. They're already selling at a loss at the price as it is. That's really as cheap as it's going to get.

Just because the PS3 loss some of their exclusives doesn't mean it is going to die. It may not be the leading brand, but there are still great exclusives on the console, such as Uncharted 2 and the God of War series.
If anything, I agree with this poster. As for the newly released PS3 Slim, I love the new thin look and it's nice they made the price more affordable. The 120GB hard drive is also a nice touch.
