Will the PS3 die???
I'm a big fan of the playstation due to the PS2 but I didn't get the PS3 due to its price and its lack of games so I have a Xbox 360 instead and I can say that I'm still happy with my purchase of the 360 since it has great multiplatform games and exclusives. But like many others, I'm sure they are waiting for another price drop and better exclusive games to come out. Hopefully for Sony's sake, it will happen in 2009. PS3 isn't dying since they do have their hardcore fanbase like people have mentioned.

CrimsonCyanideWhat? The 360's controller is the same size as the PS3's.
Aw, come on... look at it.. It's way uglier and bulkier than the PS controller. It strives to have a more "futuristic" look, but for me it just doesn't cut it. I hate it :(
I'd have to disagree about the controller. However, I do agree with your point, though I will be honest in saying it's a much better design than the original Xbox, but this thread isn't about that. Figured I'd take some pictures to give a better visual comparison.
My only real big complaint is how Sony is getting away from the backwards compatibility. I'm really glad that they've been making different models so far, but I have to honestly admit I was hoping they'd have better compatibility. I was hoping for something more along the lines of the PS2, but so far from what I've seen is there are some games that suffer greatly from it. Obviously, I understand that the cost to make a system with such compatibility would cause Sony to lose a rather good chunk of money. Thankfully, Sony has been doing it's part with updates and will continue to.
Can anyone else wait for home? Cause I sure as hell can't. I'm so excited for it. I think it's really going to help Sony break away from everyone else. At least, if it does what it's suppose to do. Either or, I can't wait to fool around with it once it's released.

PS3 isn't going to die. Although the only thing it has at the moment would be blu-ray disc player. And PlayStation only games such as Final Fantasy Xi is going on Xbox360 so there isn't much to look forward to in the game category this year.

Final Fantasy 13 wasn't coming out this year anyway so that comment is debunked already. Playstation 3 has the same games coming out as the 360 sans a few 360 exclusives such as Gears of War 2, Banjo and Tales of Vesperia. Not only that you have a big-time exclusive with LittleBigPlanet, a rumoured Home release and Valkyria Chronicles so there is SOMETHING to look forward to regardless.
This topic is quite seriously full of fail. >_>
The PS3 has no lack of awesome games coming out for it. Valkriya Chronicles is a PS3 exclusive and that game is looking incredible.
Those who mention Final Fantasy 13 going to the Xbox need to remember that Final Fantasy Versus 13 is still exclusive and will remain such as Nomura-san is in charge of it and we all know he is a very big Sony supporter.
There is no lack of awesome on the PS3 we have Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Versus 13, Valkriya Chronicles, Little Big Planet, God of War i, not to mention the great exclusives the PS3 already has like Resistance 1, Folklore, Heavenly Sword,Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank Future Tools of Destruction just to name a few. The PS3 is not dying and it wont for some time. In fact it's a safe bet that thanks to the Cell the PS3 will be competing against the next Xbox before the PS4 comes around. Devs like Naughty Dog who have made one of the most Beautiful games on PS3 Uncharted Drakes Fortune said they have not even come close to using the full power of the PS3. So the PS3 will be around for some time to come.

I think the Playstation has a legacy that customers will always remember and cherish, the same way that people love their N64 consoles because of Zelda and the like. While some titles aren't exclusive anymore, it doesn't mean Sony is going to stop getting excellent games. Every console has core series but that's why most hardcore gamers have more than one system.
All I can say is impossible... despite the millions of law suites against Sony ...the PS3 wont die. Although the PS3 lost FFXi the ps3 version will have more exclusive content and ps3 gets the better of the two Final Fantasy Versus 13. As for exclusives theres LittleBig Planet, Resistance 2 , Killzone2, and MAG. If anything dies its gonna be the xbox not being fanboy but really the thing I liked about my xbox was the achievments and all of a sudden I hear that starting mid 2009 or something all games will be required to have trophy support. xbox I liked it for a long time until I boought my ps3 and now that takes up most of my time
Honestly I'm really Sick of being this far into the console generation and still having to worry about my Xbox getting the Red Ring Of Death. MS says they had largely gotten the problem under control but it doesn't really seem they have. I mean it's really sad when I have to worry while playing Tales of Vesperia because my Xbox may just up and freeze which it did as a matter afact right after a very difficult boss battle no less. I had my xbox get random disc read errors and freezes many times when playing through Tales of Vesperia.
You never have to worry about any of that with PS3. The PS3 will most likely end up competing against the next version of the Xbox be it the 720 or w/e retarded name they are gonna come up for it. Sony said they want the PS3 to have a 10 year life span and seeing as how the PS2 is almost reaching that goal I see no reason why the PS3 won't as well.

I think it will depend a lot on the pricing and the quality of the games that come out in the coming years.
The initial price tag was just staggering... heck, even now it's pretty steep for a casual gamer like myself. I'm not the type who thinks of video games or their systems as an "investment", but more like a frisbee or a bicycle, something you pick up and enjoy for a bit... Not an utter absorption of my time, attention, and money. In that sense they'd be more likely targeting a hard-core crowd with their system as it is, and all the more power to them, but for the rest of us it's just too much of the wrong thing. Expensive power, pretty pictures and super-specs don't oust plain ol' simple fun.
And, the games that I've heard coming out for it haven't really caught my eye... nothing groundbreaking of the "Ocarina of Time" caliber yet. If they can offer a unique experience that I couldn't get on my PS2, they'll sell me. But I haven't heard of anything like that yet, if anyone can vouch on that end that would be great.

It won't die. It might end up much less successful when this generation is finished, but it won't die.
Last generation, both the Gamecube and Xbox where WAY behind, but they still got several awesome games.

The PS3 wont die, but its got no chance of ending up in first place like the PS2 did. I have all 3 consoles and i still think the PS3 is the better made system, but most of the games i want are going on the 360, which sucks
Because of the Wii I agree that the PS3 won't be first again this generation however I still think it has a pretty good chance at beating the Xbox 360 because the PS3 may very well be around longer. However to be honest it is getting to the point that the Wii isn't really considered a games console. Even Nintendo themselves seem to be ignoring the core gamer. Their E3 presser was embarrassing and was more or less a slap in the face to Nintendo fans.
Even now people are buying the Wii and seeing it as more of a toy then a console. Alot of people are picking it up and the only game they ever play is Wii sports which comes bundled with the Wii. The Wii is home to more ShovelWare then I think we have ever seen in any other generation with maybe the exception of the Atari back in the day that lead to the 80's crash.

I don't think PS3 will die any time. Although PS3 don't have many games like 360 and Wii, I'm very sure PS3 able to survive in the console war. What I think about PS3 is it take more time and effort to make the buyers to buy PS3 unless there will be price down in the future. Anyway, PS3 will prevail on the long term.
Res 5 and killzone 2 will bring sales without a doubt.
