The Ps3 will do fine

I personally do not think the PS3 will die anytime soon, in fact, I think its going to do better than 360 in the long run.

yeah yeah, I know PS3 is a lot more expansive than the 360
40gb is what? $300? and the 360 arcade package is like $200
1.5 times the price of 360. Yes, there are some great 360 exclusive games, in fact, I am a hard core Halo 3 and Gears of War fan.
I really don't think the price and its exclusive main factor why PS3 will perform better than the 360 in the long run. there are few reasons

Microsoft lost the war of BR vs HD
which means, unless Microsoft announce that the new line of 360 is compatible with BR, the future of 360 games will be in trouble because a DVD no longer provide enough space for current games. I can't remember where I read this, but even the Gears of War 2 developers stated that DVD gave them too little space that they had to cut short some of the champion in order to fit the game into a DVD.
While the sound track of Metal Gear Solid 4 is roughly 5 GB just by it self =_=
Even though, the Problem can probably be solve if 360 release their game in multi desk and just make the 360 install part of the game onto to console like what the older CD-computer game works)

360 is not exactly cheaper than ps3
Many people buy console game for its online experience
while PS3 is free, Xbox live require sub
if you get it off e-bay, it will cost about 45-50 dollar per year, which make prices of the most simple version of two consoles cost about the same, and, if you keep on playing games online (most likely you will) 360 starts to cost more than the ps3

It won't "die"

Yes the PS3 has been a mess for Sony but the worst is over, they're back to making profits again this year and they have a solid lineup of games so the future is far from uncertain. It's not going to be a smashing success like the PS1 or 2 but it will perform well. Yes Sony has lost a lot (financially and consumer mindshare) however they've stopped the bleeding and are starting the repairs, it would take something extraordinary to 'kill' the PS3 before it's time.

I don't think that the PS3 will die too, but it will need a long time to keep up with ps1 and ps2, although ps3 offer you high quality graphic game but also take alot of money, i had to save my salary for 3 months to buy a ps3 and another 5 months to buy a 32' HD TV, and the amount of game available on Ps3 is not much, so if i could i would choose Wii over PS3 for its interesting gameplay

The ps3 will win for a few reasons,
1. this is america, 360 is leader in america, BUT in jap ,china, UK and russia, ps3 is the leader.
2. ff13 is NOT for only 360 in UK and jap its still for PS3.
3. resistance 2 and motorstorm 2 and gran turismo 5.
4. better hardware.
5. M.A.G. 256 (massive game, 156 online players)
6. no lag online.
and alot more.

I don't think it will die. Like others said, there are still a lot of Sony fans and Sony would not give up on it's only real gaming console at this point. It's a huge but profitable investment. Especially for the fans!

Well it is a fact that for the first months sony was making up for the loss of ps3 from the sales of ps2 but later on things got pretty stabilized and money started comming from both products.
Now to the competition part.You said that you are enjoying the games you play on ps3 all of you guys, so why count on statistics and "trend" and not do what you really like.
Hope i made it clear enough for you guys.

Just grabbed LBP a few days ago, and I can safely say for me it's the Wii that's dying, not the PS3 or 360.

i have all 3, and have most of the major games for them, and the Wii hasn't been turned on for 2 or 3 months where as the PS3 and 360 are both used every few days.

gaming has sorta dropped off my map though recently because of college requiring a lot of my free time for studying and such and a growing interest in my car, but even if i'm just using the console for streaming an anime, at least it's useful in that regard, where as the Wii can't even do that... (hacked sure, but it's still not nearly as good).

i'm pretty excited for the new dashboard on 360 and halo 3 recon, and such...

ps3 games have had pretty low replay value for me so far though, sold heavenly sword, ratchet and clank and folklore after beating each one, and other than LBP, all i've got left are PS2 games (thank goodness I have a BC capable PS3 [60gb]!) like FF12, .hack//G.U. games and KH1 and KH2.

To be honest the power of the ps3 hasn't been tapped yet. In fact most games don't just all the cores of the cell processor and actually just uses one of them. In the long run the system will be better but from what I understand It extremely hard to code for. But an loss of an exclusive title won't hurt the system to much in fact in the long run that is better for the entire gaming community.

I greatly doubt there are games out there on the PS3 that aren't using all of the cores.

they might not be using them to their full potential, but it'd be ridiculous to assume they aren't using them.

from what i understand (from the linux sdk for ps3) is that it's inherently multi-core, so regardless of how you code it, it *will* move your code to other cores in order to achieve better thermal efficiency.

if games only used 1 or 2 cores of the machine, they'd be much more likely to fail than if they used all 7 at 1/6th of the power.

To tell you the truth that is some second hand information and I guess I forgot to say that in the post. Perhaps the person I was talking to meant that it uses the equivalent of the power of one core spread over all the cores. But my point was that the system hasn't met it's full potential and isn't even half way there.

i must admit it's very hard to develop for, even under the linux sdk, although any of the ps3 ready os's have some great compatible code going for them and it's been amazing getting to peek into that for some insight :P

For example FFXi is in Japan still PS3 exclusiv.

The PS3 isnt failing. Its still on par with the other consoles. I think the PS3 did better than the 360 in 2008 with better games. Theres Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, GrandTurismo Prolouge, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2 and possibly PS3 Home. Much better exlusive lineup than what the 360 has to offer in 08.

On another note i had a friend who loved his xbox i had a Ps2 at the time ,he would always say'ps2 shit blah blah' but yet hes always come over and play it...half a year later 'bam' 'im getting a ps2 now better games or for some other bogus reason he made up' i was like you hypocritical little gypsy after all that bashing about how xbox..is the superior console..not to be beat..he goes out and gets a ps2 claiming the xbox is dead to him,now....the ps3 i own takes regular abuse (verbally) lol but dont worry i dish it back out to his 'NEW' xbox 360,Now my prediction will he buy a ps3 because he is very excited for little big planet (that i think is about 2 days away) and even he goes 'once its out ..im over yours for liek 3 weeks' im like whatevs...i guess I might use a need for speed metaphor? if you will in my mental visuallization of a car race 1 car xbox 360 the other ps3...oh and i own a wii but lets pretend they got engine troubles for this; basically what im trying to say is xbox have used all their 'NOS' at the start line..while ps3 are just slowly releasing theirs in due time ..and well.whatevs.
