Will the PS3 die???
1 year 3 weeks ago
The whole arguement "PS3 costs too much" really isnt a valid one anymore. most people spend just as much on their 360 or wii on extra accessories and games that would add up to the cost of a ps3.
PS3 will not die purely because Sony have always worked on a long term plan with their machines. The PS1 PS2 were never great in their first years but in the end always came out on top. Once the library expands and a few more PS3 only title arrive then it will most likely end up the same ways as its predecessors.
The fact that online play is free will make it a better choice for future console owners. There is more variety for the hardcore and the casual. The Xbox has done this as well but the PS3 is shaping up to be a much better machine.

With GTA IV there are a BOOM of PS3, it will not die!
Will die actually, all consoles do...
But Sony Will put on our screens a new "PS4", that's for sure, hopefully, a more humble and stuffed-with-games (and Xenosaga xD) platform
I like what Sony did with the PS3, I mean... is a Blu-Ray, video games platform, has multimedia support, and (in the beginning), PSOne and PS2 Integrated...
In a way, when the PS2 ruled the earth, there was more interesting games around, games like Kingdom Hearts or Zone of The Enders, came out without a big franchise-name behind them... and now... just the big names are on the stores... that freedom should be restored somehow (is not my business anyway...) but is for the of the industry well-being...

Don t expect it to die too early, indeed it has not fully woken up yet!i remember the ps2 to have a very humble start too, though to compare both consoles histories is rather difficult, since the market has greatly changed and ps3 faces a diffrent scenario. i still expect it to be successfull with more games which deserve to be ps3 worthy.
I would answer this question with a no.
As I'm looking at it right now, it looks like it's just hibernating for the next generation. Maybe that just me, but when I look at the console right now, it's true power isn't tapped all the way (MGS4 is a prime example of it). So for the most part, I think it just having a slow start, but in the future, the changes are going to be more easier for it.

PS3 is going to die in a year or two. Sony has lost too much money and cannot drop the price anymore until they ship the cheaper models. In 2011-2012, Sony is going to stop making the ps3 and release the latest console system. Somewhere along those years I'm not too sure, since its a rumor so far. But i can Imagining that happen. But i will still buy the ps3 though, i think everybody should because of the blue-ray player. By next year blue-ray are going to push dvds off the shelf.

I don't mean to be rude..but generally around that amount of time, all developers release a new system. It's usual in the system cycle to have a new system after roughly 4-6 years. PS3, however, was suppose to be designed for up to ten years of life. All systems will eventually die, but I think the creator of the topic was asking if it was going to die soon, not 3-4 years down the road.

Microsoft also lost a huge amount of money dealing with the red ring of death issues. The only one really making a profit is Nintendo.
In the long run i'd say the PS3 will outlast the 360 and Wii simply because the ps3 is supposed to last about 10 years give or take. Nobody would want to buy a new nintendo or xbox after a 4 to 5 lifespan. I dont.

All I can say is that if the PS3 is as bad as some people have pointed out, why isnt it dead yet? By this logic if the PS3 is an over expensive console no one wants then it should be dead by now. Its been like 3 or 4 years. There have been consoles in the past in which its life span has been no more than 2 years. Dreamcast and the Sega Saturn are examples. They barely lasted about 2 years before it was discontinued.
Other poor consoles include the Phillips CD-i, Virtual Boy and a few others. Nobody wanted them.
As for the PS3, it is entering its 3rd or 4th year and its doing well. I cant see it diesing, not with all the support its getting.

Blu-ray won the war... therefore PS3 will come back... RIP HD-DVD

The PS3 seems to be getting back on its feet lately, with the success of blue-ray over HD-DVD and more games coming out, as that was a problem for the PS3, not enough exclusive titles to call its own.
If you think about it, all of the current console systems are Failures in their own way.
Regardless of how much money they are making.
Now note before I jot all this down, of this generation I only own a PS3.
Reasons for Failure:
PS3: Hardware and Software developers did not work together to build the system. Hardware was designed and built first, then handed to the software engineers. Leaving a cell processor that is extremely difficult to code for.
Wii: Not next gen at all, so technically shouldn't even be on this list. 4:3 aspect ratio in a world swiftly converting to 16:9 obviously worked from a sales standpoint this time, however it can hardly be called a next gen system. Of course if you don't care about technology moving forward, then the Atari 2600 is still on e-bay.
360: The largest half step of a system into a next gen platform I've ever seen. It's like everyone was looking 1 year ahead instead of 8 when they built it. I don't even need to get into all of it's manufacture defects. I'm pointing mostly at not building HD-DVD into the system, 98% of all games being 720p, proprietary hard drives and HDMI being released in a later system. What were they thinking?! I mean I know every move they made was about capturing the market share, but jeeez! Especially a company that clearly has enough money to "White Goodman" the system to success. I honestly don't care if they are making or losing money on this system. Microsoft has enough money to buy every man woman and child in the US a 360, and still keep all of their staff employed. Put that money into designing an end all system, otherwise get out of the way, and let the developers spend that 360 time coding games properly for the cell processor instead of porting them.
It's reality, it's an outside the box view of the current generation of systems. I'm not happy with Sony for their development error of the PS3, and I'm not happy with the fact that they won't be as aggressive as Microsoft. If Microsoft ends up killing every core exclusive to the PS3, by the time their next console releases, I may be buying the next xbox. (note that means microsoft would have to dominate the entire JRPG market to turn me).
The PS3 is clearly the most power, well built, and longest lasting system. I don't play FPS or Sports games on console, just JRPGs and Rock Band. The Playstation 3 system will be cheap and still powerful when Xbox's next system releases in 2010-11. The PS3 will last the life of Xbox's next system launch if not longer. What will be really funny is if the PS2 is still going strong when the new xbox comes out.

Sigh... I'm seeing a lot of fanboy posts on this thread. Whatever happened to just playing the games and not complaining about the flaws of each console?
