Will the PS3 die???
PS3 will last solely because of the Bluray.
No, incorrect actually. The PS3 will not survive nor will the Xbox360. Because every few years something better comes out. Look at the PS2. We thought it was the best thing since soft spread butter (may I add, that person was a genuise.) But the point is something better will come out and you might as well say that it is not going to last anymore than 10 years. It is all about the money.

Sony losing out due to a lot of game company aren't making PS3 exclusive. but i still see PS3 as a top contender partly im a sony supporter. LOL
I've spent alot of time on game forums all around the web.. and alot people think the same "is Sony dying" because they're losing so many exclusives.. The next gen race isn't about exclusive games anymore as much as it is about 1st party games and DLC. Almost no company can afford to keep games exclusive anymore. The reason the PS2 had so many exclusive games was because it had a ridiculous marketshare compared to the Xbox and Gamecube. but this gen its almost even with the 360 and the Wii is in a whole nother category. Its still relatively early in the race, and while the "furby" of consoles the Wii has already peaked the other two are still gaining momentum.
Its far from over, Sony and MS both need to recoup the development losses and that takes a while. Sony is already moving to the 45nm dye in new PS3's and with the removal of the Graphic Synthesizer from the 80gig SKU they are able to lower the price and get the console in more homes. Right now its just all about building userbase and staying in the black. The reason the PS3 didn't see a price drop this x-mas was because Sony's game division finally got into the black and they wanted to end the fiscal year that way. Expect a 50 to 100 dollar price drop by spring and then sales (which are already doing well) will pick up again. In September/October they actually sold more units then they had produced.
Bluray and HDTV are also starting to drop in price and that will drive sales as well.
Sony has a 10 year lifecycle for the Ps3, and just like the PS2 and 1 before it, things always started out rough.

PS 3, no piracy.
I dunno, that itself is a lose out.
believe or not, people will buy the product of the console, that is where important money comes from, without piracy markets, the console doesn't quite last.

Well, Sony and the other companies make a ton of money. They will always come out with a new system. Because when they come out with a new system they know that the people will come and buy one because A: They want to be up to date with the systems and B: The newer games will start to come out for that system.
Piracy does exist on the PS3.. its just alot harder to do. Sony will inevitably open up the ability for Linux to access the graphics card and when it does we will see alot of piracy. But piracy doesn't make them any money.. they're barely breaking even on every console sold.. the real money is in the games.
The PS3 isn't going to die, but it most likely won't be on top of the market by the end of this generation. I just hope Sony licks their wounds and kick butt next gen.
I don't think piracy is going to help them either. In fact, that's kind of the opposite of what would help them.

The PS3 will not die now nor will it die until Sony makes PS4 and even then it may keep going for a while. Look at the PS2 it still has great games coming to it like Eternal Poison, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and Persona 4. This year the PS3 had plenty of AAA exclusives that you cant get elsewhere and it showed and it's really just the beginning. PS3 is most likely going to have even more top notch exclusives in 2009 for example Uncharted 2 Among Thieves was announced. There is a small chance that God of War i will come in 2009 as well as the fact that the next Ratchet and Clank is going to be coming Fall 09. oh and lets not forget Final Fantasy Xi while it most likely wont make it to the US in 09 it will in Japan. Not to mention we get to start the year off with Killzone 2.
Keep in mind that these are only the games that have been announced and come E3 there will be plenty more not to mention there are probably a few slipping my mind as I write this. Not to mention there will be plenty of great Multi platform games like Resident Evil 5, Bullet Witch and plenty more.
So Yeah the PS3 isn't dying anytime soon it has yet to even reach it's peak while many believe the Xbox 360 reached it's peak with Gears of War 2 which I would quite frankly agree with. Time will tell as always but I don't think potential PS3 buyers nor PS3 owners have anything to worry about.

Guys, I think the question is not if the system will die when a newer one comes out, that's obvious that it will then. I think the question is more of referring to if the system will because of the other current gen systems. Everyone knows that when a newer system comes out, the previous one gets left behind. When developers switch over to a newer system, that in itself kills the system.
Bluray makes up a fraction of the sales. The primary sales are first and foremost because it's a gaming machine. Granted, it is the cheapest Bluray player out there on the market, but due to it's size I don't think your average Joe Schmoe is going to buy it simply for that. Count in the fact you need to buy a remote with it, Joe Schmoe would most likely go with just the stardard player that can easily fit into wherever. It is an excellent selling point, but it'll only work if the person that is buying it will also use it for gaming.

No, because it's a cheap blu-ray player that happens to play a few games as well.

The ps3 is selling like hot cakes in japan right now, and im sure soon they will start to rake in more money as it goes along. I feel it will live, but it really needs to get a good catalog of games built up

yeah, the ps2 is still alive with games like persona.goes to show that you don't need all that power to make a great game.
on the ps3,they lot out cause of the early hiccups, they wouldn't probably have trailed behind the x-box 360 in the beginning if it wasn't for that.it won't die,but the problem now will be the economy, since a lot of people would be buying less games or just rent.

I gotta say no to that. The PS3, while having a slow start as many people have stated is getting better and better. The PS3 is the most powerful of the three consoles, and with the advancements being made it is becoming cheaper for Sony to make. Then there are the facts that there are good games coming out for it like God of War 3, Killzone 2, and others. Also it does have some good widget series like disgaea, and I'd put money on it that Persona 5 will be on the PS3, so yeah, it may be slow but it definitely is going to pull through.
The PS3 is far from dying. The wii is just a toy with no real "Big games" and the Xbox 360 is doing better than the original Xbox but it still lacks those key games: Kingdom Hearts and God of War. As long as sont has those two, the sistem will never die, and I highly doubt it would even if they lost all exclusives, because in the end it would still be the best console arround. On top of that theres the blu-ray player which is like the Icing on the cake! Yummi, Blu-ray. :D

look Rabbit that ones got a crown lol
