Persona 4
Um, if I want to buy P3 should I buy just P3 or P3: FES? And is P4 a follow-on of 3?

Valebelee, buy P3: Fes. The Fes version of the game is the entire P3 game with added content and extra game play as another character of the party after the main character's storyline ends. Plus, I think it's nearly impossible to find just P3, at least new. Atlus has a habit of under-producing the SMT series, so most of the older ones are all rare and extremely hard to find at a reasonable price.
P4 is not a follow-on so much as a different story in the same universe, sort of. It has the similarities between the games, such as going into a "dark world" and being able to summon the Persona's there. But there are no direct character connections or interactions between the two games.
P4 is everything P3 was with added features, new story, new setting, all that jazz. It's a "new and improved" version. I've heard many people say that P4 is better than P3, but I simply can't overlook the fact that the main character of P4 looks like...well...like he does. Mr. Emo from P3 was better. >.<

Thanks! I wasn't sure. The game sure looks interesting though, and one of my friends is absolutely obsessed with it.
Best game ever in PS2, as i could say !
I've played 2/3 game length and it makes me speechless. I'm so exited and enjoyable. Good Story, Gameplay is awesome and wonderful music. Compare to P3, it improved a lot.

I got P4 for Christmas, but I don't wanna play it until I finish P3FES
(I've got lots of work, I don't play much)
I love the series, as well as other ones like Digital Devil Saga, and if you all don't know, here a bit of news, Surprise, surprise

I'd suggest starting with Persona 3: Fes (don't bother with the original, Fes has extra content and more costumes, weapons, and personas to help you in battle). You'd benefit from playing Persona 3 first because there are things mentioned in Persona 4 that you won't understand unless you've played it.
The Velvet Room, Margaret and Elizabeth, some of the personas, fusion, elements, blah blah blah... Things aren't quite as thoroughly explained in Persona 4 as they are in Persona 3. I think this is because Atlus figured most people playing P4 had already picked up P3. The games are made the same way, unlike with Persona 2, which was definitely different from what I've heard. I haven't played that however, since it was only released in Japan. P3 did make a few references to the characters of P2. One of the characters said they were surprised anyone had played that game or got the reference. Persona likes to break it's own fourth wall, apparently, which I find really funny.
It's a good, solid game series that doesn't take itself too seriously. Again, you run into the problem of only having one dungeon, but there are various worlds to explore within that dungeon, not just Tartarus itself like in Persona 3.
There's some mystery, some lulz, and pretty much everything I've come to expect in a persona game. The persona series is leaps and bounds easier than the Digital Devil Saga, which is a Megaten game as well, but it's not the same as Persona. If you want something a little more challenging from the start, you might want to pick up DDS as well.

Nice game =)
But I liked the way it were with the original P1-2 though...
I wonder if Atlus'll return to the original style, with this intence and cruel plot, occult themes and so on.

Personally, I think it's a solid game. But then, I loved Persona 3 enough to pre-order this one, so I may be a bit biased.
The game is nice, I would recommend if you bare any interest in going to school in Japan or fighting off monster during your high school life. However, I know that this turns some people off, the game is partly a grind base game. So unless you put up the hours into leveling up your characters you might have some trouble with bosses and maybe even normal enemy. Now with that out of the way, the game has a great story with twist and turn that usually takes you by surprise or off guard. It also has this element to it that makes a game addicting. You'll be sitting on the edge of the seat puzzling your gray matter trying to figure out who is behind all the bad happening or puzzling over a test question at school. What I really believe of what makes this game what is it is it characters, only rarely could you find an RPG that could make your care or feel for these fictional characters. The game also has the charm of humor usually after any serious in the game, after it over the game usually awards you with a great deal of LOLs.
I would recommend getting Persona 4 first if you lack in time because it's the refined version of both Persona 3 and Persona 3: FES. However if you have time to spare take down Persona 3 first since there's elements in that game that you want to learn before getting Persona 4, those elements will make your appreciate the Persona 4 even more.

I got this game on the day it came out and I was hooked instantly! I stumbled onto P3 one day when I was bored and I really got into the game. I loved the social links and the concept of social links is awesome its also funny at some parts! P3 was definitely my favourite game of 2007. Since P3 was awesome I kept waiting for P4 and when it finally came out I was so excited. Personally I like everything about P4 way better than P3 because of the new unique interactions and social links, the character development was also really good. The Dungeons are a bit more entertaining now because it has a story behind each Dungeon unlike P3 which just gives you a dungeon to train in and makes you fight bosses on certain days. Overall P4 is just awesome I suggest you get P4 if you're looking to play Persona, not to say P3 wasn't fun at all but you don't really have to play P3 to understand P4.
You say if it is worth buying the game/playing game you say? If you are a fan of japanese-based games or you like anime this games is for you. P3:FES is so addicting...for me
.
P4 is very above P3:FES. Battle has been improved and musics are so wow to me. P4 has more comedy than P3:FES. IMO it's like your watching an anime. The game is so lively. Further more i'm a very big fan of japanese games. lol. I mean the game is 100% japanese except for the dubbing part. lol
Today i'm finishing P3:FES so that i can now play P4 all the way! Woot! For me this is the best rpg for the ps2.
P4: director's cut anyone? ^^

P4 is more witter then the last game. I loved P3 with a passion, but the characters at time seemed cold/distant/aloof, while everyone is a bit more down-to-earth/zany/"real" in this game ^o^ I still can't tell if I like it more then P3 yet, but yes, it's definitely worth playing. Like any Megaten game! XD
And if you haven't played 3 yet... There are no spoilers from one game to the next, so it doesn't matter what order you play them in.. It does make it easier to have played 3 before 4 XD There are lots of things that were presented in 3 (social links, your personal attributes you have to raise, etc.) that are way more complex/complicated in 4, so it was nice to have the basic understanding of how to do things.

A great game!
P4 is one of the best you can get on Ps2. The good of this game is, you can play it over and over without getting bored. The humors and mysteries and drama are much more interesting than P3's.
I kind of disappointed of the MC's design, though. He seems to be too ordinary that even his buddies seem to stand out more than him, unlike Minato from P3. Good thing is, he's more 'alive' than Minato, as the guy interacts more realistically in the scenes. Don't forget his buddies! Yosuke, Kanji and Teddie make the best laughing stocks in the game. Trust me, the game's best lines come mostly from them. Oh, one great of this game, is the fact that our S.Links friends have their own voices now, yay!
The storyline is solid and you'll definitely be surprised after every 'mission' by either the person you 'rescued' or about the culprit. Though some say P4's storyline is not as good as P3's, I personally think it's great!
