Favorite would be the PS2 which introduced me to games like MGS, GTA, and TimeSplitters.

Xbox 360 because they have great exclusive games such as my favourite Halo 3, Gears Of War, Fable 2 and others i can't named. One thing that keeps everyone hate Xbox 360 is the three rings of death.
When I decided to buy a console, then chose the PS3 and do not regret it. I play less than watching movies on a disc Blue-Ray, for those who want to not only play, but also multimedia features, PS3 will be the best choice.
As far as gaming consoles go, my experience is limited to the PS2 and PS3. I have a PC that is suitable for gaming, but I use it to work, so I try not to put games on it, since they are too distracting. While there may be the occasional game I wish I could try that is limited to xbox, I really enjoy the PS3. How a game looks is an important part of the game.
With games like Heavenly Sword and BioShock which have very good graphics, the PS3 really shines. Since I have in-laws that are young, I would look at a Wii as a second console, simply because it has games they would probably enjoy. The most interesting game for youngsters I've found on the PS3 is LittleBigPlanet.
A DS Lite is fine for a portable and it can play the older Game Boy Advanced modules too, so it works well. But most of the kids I see at the mall have PSP's so I think those are either better or at least more trendy.
I would agree that a PS3 and PC would probably let you play 90% of the games excepting Wii based games and those are primarily aimed at younger audiences.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
OK, gotta say that for me it's the PS One. Seriously, it set the bar for all those developers and what did we get as a result? Some of the most awesome and influential games of their times! I'm talking game mechanics, story plots, graphics, of course, and it got a whole new generation, not to mention jump starting the old generations, into gaming!

I can't say what I like the most, since I've only played with Wii and never played either PS3 or Xbox 360.
Wii is tons of fun and actually make you move and not sit on the couch all the time. Wii sports is the best, but playing it for an hour made my arm sore.
I'd love to get PS3 when Final Fantasy Xi comes out.

I would say the PS3 because you can also play ps2/ps1 games on it( the one i got). Also better games are starting to come out also.

I have like... 27 games for my PS2 and I'm still trying to get more games for it. The games that come out for the Playstation systems are my kind of games. They usually make those kind of fantasy games... I mean the one where you take your old-school sword and run around places~ (like Devil May Cry or Kingdom Hearts)
I just like games that have you move around and thinking on your feet, not turn based kind of stuff. (but I need to improve myself with first person shooter)

As a family member who owns all three consoles. I prefer the generation of Playstations, but in overall use, I like 3 more than 2 by a bit. They've got my favourite games out and coming soon:

PS2 and PS3 for me. The PS2 just has a crapload of games I love, including the FF series, Persona, and others.
PS3 so far I only enjoy Valkyria Chronicles. While Assassin's Creed was certainly epic, I'm more excited for FF vXi, Assassin's Creed II, and Tekken 6. Other than that, the PS3's main purpose is a blueray player. XD

I enjoy the PS3 the most. 360 has some great games but they don't have as good exclusives as the PS3, but I do enjoy playing some Halo 3, Gears 2 every now and then but I tend to play my PS3 more (MGS4, Killzone 2, LBP, Uncharted, Valkyria Chronicles).

Playstation 2. Besides having my favorite game of all time (Xenosaga i) it has the best variety out of any console I've ever owned.
