Has the Wii ruined gaming as we know it or revolutionized it?

It gave ps3 an idea I believe. Have you see their new motion detector? It blows the little Wii away.

I personally love the Wii. Not in the same way I loved the Nes and Snes, but It's an awesome console and pushes the industry to evolve in new ways faster. I'm sure lots of companies were working on a similar way of playing with sensors and remotes, but Nintendo released it earlier, not focusing on graphics, thank God. I'm so tired of companies like Square-Enix destroying their classic series by obsessing over graphics and nothing really else. I still play 2d sprite games with no problems. I wish they weren't so money hungry. I love that Nintendo doesn't seem to care that much about graphics and emphasize playability and so forth. The things that matter.

I love the wii, its really fun to play games in a new sort of way, ala wii sports or Twilight Princess, however there is also games where you can play in the traditional way, or with game cube controllers, such as super smash brothers. But then again, i like traditional games like other consoles, as the motion sensor technology can be a bit boring, bulky or just unnecessary in some games. I find traditional games last longer, while new wii games are just a novelty.
I really (once again, I) dislike the Wii for:
1. Nintendo's (although the same could be said for DS, the portable at least has lots of good games) poor quality control allows games like Partybabyz, Pet Pals to exist, and worst, be sold! That generates more bad games that take a little bit of the market from good games.
2. There's few games for true gamers. Mad World, No More Heroes are a few that come to mind.
3. It's controller. There's ONE game that makes me think this controller is cool, and it is Mario. Zelda Twilight Princess is actually better in the Gamecube.
and Itz 4 girlz and old peaple!1! LULZ
no, seriously, look at the ads.

I don't think anything can compare to the NES or SNES, really. I view the Wii as the beginning of a completely new era & I can understand its appeal, especially when it comes to family games (playing Wii games is about the only time our entire family fully agreed on which game to play together!).
Everything has to change/evolve at some point, with such advances in technology I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. I don't think the NES's popularity will fade as long as the fans keep it alive.

The Wii practically took gaming to a whole new different level.
When Nintendo worked on the Wii they didn't care about the "Add more better graphics" kinda crap instead what they focused was how should we turn this console into a fun way to get people excited. Which they did, the Wii may not be the best when it comes to graphics but it is one of the most consoles you can have fun with. Right of the bat Wii sports which comes with the console it immediately has the potential to keep you satisfied until a game you like comes out.
Even then you'll continue to play the Wii sports, Wii avatars fun to make you can practically have a creative imagination and make whoever you want as your avatar. the other consoles PS3 Xbox360 focused so much on the graphics and not the gameplay that it ended up not only expensive but also a bit boring to have

Kind of both, it invented a new way to play, yet its way to play gets boring with most games.

Well Wii made one big plus for entire game industry ;p If you have Wii no one can say that you just sit all day in front of screen ;p with Wii you have to move ^.^... but well try play any more sophisticated RTS on Wii.. it would be just like suicide ;p
I have to say that describing how I feel about the Wii is rather difficult. At the same time that I believe the Wii was a step forward I feel that it was also to the side. Nintendo obviously is digging into the very untapped market of casual gamers, and has been very successful at it.
I feel like the Wii started off strong. It gave a healthy amount of product to both casual gamers, Wii Sports, and to Nintendo's core crowd, with Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. The problem is, as time has gone by, I can't help but feel more than a little alienated by the way Nintendo's new business model. I find I'm spending more and more time with my PS3. I still keep my Wii around, partly because my younger siblings play it, but also because part of me says that Nintendo just couldn't forget its faithful followers. The ones that stuck with them through everything up until now. However, sometimes I feel that they have.
I think I will always be a Nintendo fan in some. I still play my DS heavily because, though it's graphics and processors may be lacking, it has kept up a strong line of core game offerings. It has a strong line up of action-adventure, RPGs, and the like. The problem is, as I watch the direction of the Wii I wonder if Nintendo's next hand-held will take that same side-step the Wii has. If it could be detrimental somehow.
So, in the end, I believe the Wii has been a major step forward for the gaming market in general, but it took a step to the side first. It's brought more people to the joy that video games have to offer than any other system before it. Maybe we just need to be grateful for that. Maybe after the untapped gaming market is fully tapped and the casual storm dies down Nintendo will return to it's roots, this time with a thoroughly massive army of new core gamers. The only part is... part of me still wonders. Still doubts. Nintendo has sewn the seeds. Now we wait for what the harvest brings, nutritious Wii-t or flimsy straw.

It's really hard to say. I mean one of the ideas I really liked about the Wii is that you can go to Virtual Console and buy old games. Not only do the older people get the nostalgic feeling, but new gamers who have never played the games we have back in the day get a chance.
That and sometimes it's hard to play your old games, especially since old consoles die of the cartridge itself.
Though, there are some cons with the Wii. I always thought the Wii is weird to not have the ability to play DVD movies. I'm not saying it's 'needed' but going against other consoles like PS3 and XBOX 360, I'm surprised they haven't had that added to their consoles.
I don't know. I enjoy the wii and they have some great games. And I really enjoy the PS3 and XBOX 360. Sometimes it's ridiculous that there is competition and how people are like 'Insert Console Name' sucks and such.

Nintendo’s a business. They don’t care about you, or other so-called “hardcore” gamers. They care about money. Video games are a hobby. They’re not a sport, or an art. Stop pretending you were ever part of something grander. I understand why you’re disappointed with the lack of challenging, in-depth games, but do you expect them to take on the hardcore market that Sony, or MS had pretty much planted their flags on? Ultimately, business is business, and no profit-driven entity is above this sort of thing.
Here's how I see the Wii. I've been a huge Nintendo fan since the early years, and have always bought their systems and a large portion of their games and always enjoyed myself. But since the Wii came out, and yes I stood in line when it first came out to get it, I have come to realize that the Wii is not for hardcore gamers. Its definitely fun to pick up every once in a while and play tennis or something like that, but there are very few and rare games that are great like they used to be. I can only think of a handful of games on the Wii that I enjoyed like their older versions. The Wii is more a game system for those who arnt hardcore gamers, or people how usually dont play video games. Thats just how it is now

The wii may not have very many good games on it, but it certainly did revolutionize gaming. The fact the graphics engine and HD didn't really step it up were saddening, but it brings a new element to gaming that we've all been waiting for - further immersion. Being able to swing and see your character do the same is exciting. The only problem is that the motion sensors are still pretty primitive, that or the programing is, so you can't make a Tekken game just yet (although it'd probably look more like a highschool fight if we fully controlled them anyways). We're a step closer to slipping on a helmet and playing games with our mind as if we're in them ;).

Personally, I was, and still, not impressed with the Wii. It's great for family entertainment, but that's about it. It lacks the games that would appeal to the age group that video games draw in, about the only thing it's good for is kiddy games. Don't get me wrong, SSBB is fun and all, but it gets boring after a while and all I really want is a story to suck me in. Twilight Princess wasn't an exception either, it just felt like a reworked Zelda game. The Wii needs to branch out way more if it's going to be able to compete with the PS3 or the 360.
Well wii have revolutionized the gaming.becaz of its motion controller but now ps3 is making motion wand which will be far more better then wii motion controller...some games are fun to play on wii but most of them are not so fun.if your tired and want to relax your self with some nice gaming you dont wanna get more tired moving your hands and feets and jumping all over the room.u just wanna relax playing awesome HD games on your couch just moving your fingers and using your brain...but if your a couch potato then buy wii and move your body no relaxing for u...
