Should squaresoft make a remake of final fantasy 7 for the ps3
tethaeaI have never been able to play Final Fantasy 7 so i would love them to remake it. However, i do not have ps3, so im hoping for ps2.
Pardon me if I'm being a bit rude, but you do know that the Playstation 2 is fully backwards compatible, right? What this means is that all Playstation 1 games will play on the PS2. Go buy the PS1 copy, along with a PS1 memory card and your set to go.

Hmm, i though sqaure enix had beat off the news of having a ff7 remake? But those interested can try to find the graphic demo done by sqaure enix based on a fighting scene in ff7. Kind of cool to see ff7 in ff13 graphic..

I don't think they'll do it at all.
They don't have the time for that. They are already booked for the next 3 or 4 years with all the Final Fantasy Xi projects. 2 on PS3 at least, plus more on portable consoles.

Personally, I like Chrono Trigger more than FF7, Chrono Trigger for the win.
I think FF7 is an okay game, I guess it just depends on when/how you experienced it... unfortunately I didn't play it at the release, so compared to the other RPG's I've played in that time-gap it's seems sorta clunky and long-winded from my perspective, and probably not as fresh and memorable as it appeared when it came out originally. Same thing happened for me with A Link to the Past, supposedly it was an awesome game for its era, but when I play it I just can't help but compare it to Ocarina of Time and find it all a great chore. I think the game reviewer yahtzee from the escapist experienced a similar circumstance, except with starting out playing Twilight Princess and going back to play Ocarina of Time:Master Quest.
ANYWHO'S
If they remake FF7 for the PS3, it would be nice if they made it a little easier to get into. I only say this because, though I've tried to finish it off/on for the past 5 or so years, it feels like such a chore, and that it takes way too much commitment to sit down and play it. I'm fine with that in some games like Phoenix Wright, but that only works since it's pick-up-and-play on the DS. With these big RPG's that are so sparing in save points, you have to shelve out at least 1-3 hours of your day to play, and though I do have that kind of time occasionally I'd like a little more leniency in how I spend it
And though I suppose it's more of an aesthetic opinion, I prefer to avoid the linearity of the gaming proffered by FF7... I feel like I'm being led through a pretty narrow path to the goal, with monsters just obfuscating and obstructing my progression through the story instead of enhancing the fun of the adventure.
If they remake it, I also hope that they adhere to the 90's-anime spirit of the original designs instead of the lifeless, bishounen plastic-y perfect doll faces modeled for the characters in Advent Children. Even the dumply chibi-forms of the characters represented in the original game are preferable to that.

I don't think it's a good idea since the the game has been sold and resold in so many different merchandise and ideas. It would be something that people will buy but will it be any good? Unikely.
RedZenshin, while I'm not trying to be rude I question why you even play RPGs to began with. RPGs are, being they always have been, longer than standard games. Truth be told, RPGs are getting longer in length as the years have progressed as well, and it's a good thing too. It's about offering a grand story and grinding, their suppose to be a timely involvement. It would defeat the point of re-making the game if they were to not make it like an RPG. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but the whole point of an RPG is to offer an experience that is well beyond 8 hours of gameplay.
Also, while you do state that these great games you had a tough time getting into, it most likely would have to do with the games you played prior. Due to my age, I was able to play these games as they came out and personally speaking, I feel that A Link to the Past is still the best Zelda game out there. While you enjoy the N64's Ocarina of Time, I actually hated both N64 Zelda games. While they may of been greats, they were greats for their time and in some standards aren't going to hold up that well in comparison. Obviously, differences in opinion come into play and there is no right and wrong when it comes to that. If you had a difficult time getting into FF7, it probably just wasn't the game for you. I was like that with Cross Edge, I put six hours into that title and I still thought it was crap.

A remake of FF7 would surely be a good decision sales wise.
There are still a huge amount of fans of the game.
So, a remake with remastered music and graphics, im sure it would sell well.
They also recently added the original FF7 to the PSN.
So, maybe they'd rather milk the PSN game as opposed to putting money and time into remaking and remastering it.

CrimsonCyanide, I completely agree.
In truth, the reason I'm drawn to RPG's is exactly because they have such grand, detailed and imaginative storylines that can't be found in most other games. I think that the greater length adds to the richness of the worlds experienced and that's what I love about RPG's: to be immersed in an amazing fantasy world of adventure. I think it's not really the length I have trouble with... The thing I just can't get into oftentimes is the gameplay. In some RPG's I just can't find fun in fighting the same/similar monsters over and over again, watching the same attack animations in the same backgrounds over and over again hundreds of times, just to make numbers go up on the screen and have the pleasure of knowing that I've unlocked another attack animation that I'll be seeing a couple more hundred times to make more numbers go up, etc. etc. ad nauseum. In this sense the game becomes like a chore for me, like work when I came to play. It doesn't feel like there's much skill or thinking necessary behind most of the levelling (the status quo seems to be that strategy is reserved primarily for fighting bosses, for the most part it isn't needed for the regular dungeon enemies that you fight repeatedly for most of the game). I can understand the reasoning that some gameplay elements should be earned and properly spaced out, but I think that oftentimes in RPG's they ask the player to do so in an overtly repetitive fashion that doesn't enhance the fun factor of the gameplay experience. That's what I liked about Chrono Trigger, it was balanced in a way that it wasn't all too heavy in emphasizing those aspects of the gameplay, CT made battles short, sweet and seamless, and avoidable if so desired. It also didn't force the player to sit for long stretches of time, it was pretty nicely paced as far as just proffering little nuggets of fun, non-committal game time.
But yeah, I agree, it's probably just one of those things that's just not for me, I have friends who don't have any issue with sitting for hours just grinding on monsters. It sucks though, I'm so interested in finding out what happens in FF7, but for the life of me the gameplay just bores me too much. Maybe I'm playing it wrong or have the wrong mindset in approaching it, but that's just the way it feels, if a game was offered to me that had none of the story and only the levelling up elements I would simply not enjoy it, though I can name quite a number of games that on gameplay alone are greatly enjoyable regardless of storyline.

I'd prefer a remake to FF Vi. But that's because it's awesome.
But that tech demo of FFVII showed that it would look fantastic. I'd love to play it looking like that.

Yes I also would prefer a remake of FF6 1st, since FF7 has been getting all the attention for the last 10 years. But I wouldn't mind an FF7 remake, maybe if they have an alternate story mode for Aeris ;)

And it's this kind of thinking that will lead to countless complaints once the game is actually made and is out there. Graphics isn't the be-all and end-all, there's a lot to be damaged here if re-made.
FF7 was the best of old FF's, maybe a remake would generate too much expectations... it must be as good or better, or failure will be huge.
RedZeshin, what I've found if I don't have the patience or time to play through a game is to go on youtube and see what they have for walkthroughs. I've found that these are a great way to get caught up in the story, but also you don't have to play any of the game either. Of course, I only did this because I wanted to get caught up in Splinter Cell and didn't want to waste the time hunting down the first three titles and beating them.
Remaking this game has it's ups and downs.
Like the game is epic all in itself, so remaking it would kinda kill the original epicness.
But they did release the opening remade for the PS3 when it first came out, if anyone remembers.
That did look pretty amazing.
But if you think about it, so far they remade up to VI for the DS.
So maybe they will follow that pattern and remake VII.
We'll just have to sit and wait.

This. FFVii is too overrated. FFVi is the one that needs to be remake. Sabin FTW!!
