Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

Alright, here it it- my first wall. I have already recieved a lot of sound advice from my pals, some I took, others I did not. Be warned, it is rather dull. It is also very much not finished!

Here are a few things I have noticed:

1. Her hair. Dear God- I have worked for 4 hours on her hair alone. I removed the flare (thanks Lynx) and smoothed it out. But the strands that ar near her right cheek definately need more editing, but I'm just not sure what else to do to fix it. I have blended and edited, and I am very frusterated.
2. Her skirt. As you will notice from the original scan, there was text all over her skirt. I eyedroped the colors and blended them, but I'm not sure it looks right.
3. Her left hand needs some work as I had to rebuild it.

Any suggestions for the above, or anything else you can find would be of great help.

I will not add text or change the background color. And I know it needs my signature.

The scan used for the background (heavily edited): http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Strawberry-Panic/item84336/
The scan used for the character: http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Strawberry-Panic/item96972/
The wall (remember, it isn't done!!): http://www.geocities.com/warrioruranus/NagisaWall2.jpg

Hmmm... what did you use when you extracted the character LL? You can use the pen tool for extracting, to get a smooth curve for the hair. Here is a link on how to extract using the pen tool: pen tool extraction

The character looks a little bit grainy, because I can differentiate the addition, adjustments and changes that you made with the skirt, maybe it needs a little cleaning. I really love the bg! But, there is a little connection with the character and the bg, I suggest that you add a flower (like one of the flowers in bg) in the girl's hand, like she is holding it.^^

I am not of a good waller, but I hope this helps LL!

Thanks, Jane. I agree with you. I just don't know how to fix it. Using the pen tool might work (if I can figure out how to use it) .. which means I need to start all over again. Luckily I saved the backdrop seperately.

The character looks grainy to you? Did you look at it in full scale- because she doesn't look grainy to me...

Basically- since this is a guinea pig wall and I am learning how to use GIMP while doing it- I was having a lot of problems with the extraction tools and layering. So, I placed the scan on top of the backdrop and erased whatever I didn't want (which would make it appear as though the character is on top of the background). I realize now that that was probably dumb.

Maybe I should toss this one aside and try to learn how to vector and cuts things out that are simpler shapes.

Thanks for your help.

Your welcome LL!^^

I'm not familiar with GIMP, and I am so sorry because I assumed that you were using photoshop.

Yes, I full viewed the wall, it's a bit grainy to me LL compared to the changes you've made near below the skirt where the texts were present (But maybe it's just me.).

^^ Hi Lenas, TT___TT why do you use Gimp that way I cant really give easy advise (I can upload a TRAIL version of photoshop for you just ask ;) ) :P well anyway for the grany look of the character in photoshop I usualy compensate it by making a copy of it on top and changing the blend mood, diferent blend moods work for diferent scans and colors of it but usualy the soft light works best (T__T again dont really know it there is something like it in gimp), for the hair and other parts of the cut if you dont whant to recut it maybe you could try painting it ^^ (if you have a copy blended its much easyer as the color dosent stand out as much) with the wand or its equal select the part "exactly" where you ar going to paint say one of the hairs just select it so you can paint without going out of the borders, Ive used this sevreal times and it helps a lot ^^ but its definitly better to recut it with the pen. I like the background concept but it looks kind of bright for a dark dressed character (dunno maybe its just me) but I think you would get better results if you use some brushes and make your own (gives you a better control of where things are placed and the image quality is also better that way)

U__U and dont give up remember the harder it is the better you will feel when you make it ^o^, and remeber if you need anything (a photoshop version yea ;) or brushes or something) just ask

`^__^´ Good luck !!

**Edited after edge pointed out my "ilegal" comment ¬¬ . . . jejeje

Saying you should upload a version sound as piracy talk in my head, and is illegal as most people know.

To lenas:

The BG looks great, but a little low quality. Did you save the wall at low quality? Thats all i have to say i guess. The rest is here:

Also your scan needs some cleaning, lots of tuts out there.

Thanks End.

As for the background- it is supposed to be blurred. The original wasn't at all- and the original was much much smaller. I wanted to give it a watercolor look. I do have some more work to do on the background, you're right. :)

And yeah, I'm begining to think I may need to work a little harder on learning to use the cutting tools. I'm sure you're right about that being a lot smoother. I worked through a tutorial and I was just left confused and it didn't work. I'll try again.

As for painting- I did. That is how I fixed her hair and her skirt, and rebuilt her hand. I have done a TON of editing if you'll compare the scan. :)

Thanks for the photoshop offer (I'll prolly buy it though). I may eventually get to the point where I can't stand GIMP anymore. ^_^'

Thank you for your help!

Edge: Yeah, I agree... I just don't know how to fix it.

Thanks all.. I'll work at learning to cut & clean. That will help a great deal, I think.
