Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

While I've not been heavily exposed to the .hack series to any great length, I've also kind of viewed it from afar with enough interest that I might like to try it one day. I enjoy good RPG's and I like involving stories, so in your opinion should I try the .hack series sooner rather than later?

And if I can ask, what do you find appealing about the series, and how do you generally rate the games as RPG's? I assume it's best to start at the beginning?

Basically, I'm kind of looking for the opinions of those that have played the games, whether they be good or bad.

Thanks!

Just recently, I got .Hack GU Rebirth. I thought it was very good. But thats only because it is going to be 3 or 4 part series. The story line seems pretty good. It kept me interested, which is VERY hard to do now and days, and it isnt too long that you will spend 80 hours on a game, and STILL not beat the final boss -_-
*Ahem* Final fantasy
The game play is what got me interested the most. Instead of that turned based combat, its more action oriented, where you pick your party out of the members available to you, and run around different areas, beating monsters and what not.
Overall, I cant wait till the next one comes out so I can finally pick up where the game ends. ^^

I enjoyed the .hack series (infection, etc) until ~ disc four when it degenerated into a random levelup quest and 'find the virus cores' which is tedium soaked in boredom.

Think leveling up to 99 in midgar in ff7.

Well, .hack// series always has a link between them. And all of .hack series has it's own level up's rule. The required EXP isn't increasing, but the EXP that got from the enemy is decreased. ^^

.hack// is a great series for me. ^^ Not their gameplay, but their story makes us must thinking to get the meaning. ^^ Beside of that, the .hack// games is usually too easy, not like Final Fantasy series. ^^ I only need 10 hours to finish .hack//G.U. rebirth. ^^

I have really gotten into the .hack games. If they though put the games into a box set, I would possibly get them. But also I didn't like the battle system as much.

The original .hack series is played for the story. Gameplay-wise, the four games were very redundant; the field/dungeon maps were uninspired, the flow of combat was choppy from menu-management, and there was minimal character development outside of the handful of core characters.

.hack//G.U., while enormously better with it's combat-flow due to skills having a "trigger" button to activate skills, suffers from a minimal amount available field/dungeon maps being reused. There are even less maps in this game than there were in the original series; as such, I was quickly tired of looking at those same maps throughout the game. The story is equally as interesting as the original series, which is something that saves this new series.

I found the original .hack series of games very boring. Neither the story or the characters are interesting, and the games mostly consists in an endless leveling-up in labyrinthic dungeons.

Still, the first one was pretty fun, because of its originality, but the second and third bore me to tears, and in the end I never had the courage to do the last one...

Depending on which .hack series? The first 4 volume of .hack games are bad. Still, you may want to play this game if you're trying to fill the 'puzzle' from .hack//SIGN anime. The gameplay itself it's bad, and short (per volume).

Next, i've seen some improvement in .hack//GU. Better gameplay, especially in the battle system. Too bad, the repetitive dungeon still there. And once again, if you're following the anime of .hack//ROOTS, you definitely have to play this game.

Thanks for all of the opinions so far, which seem to range from "great" to "not the best" -- so I imagine there's a lot of room for personal experience somewhere in there. But keep them coming if you've got them as I appreciate the perspectives before deciding on whether to give the 1st game a try.

I wouldn't really recomend the first four installments of Hack. Because they are not all that exciting when it comes to gameplay and controls. If you do like a good story though then you will most likely enjoy the game.

G.U. I totally recomend because the totally revamped the controls, gameplay is much more interactive and the also kept up with story and plot.

The game is very well made and very unique in content.

This game makes you feel that you are playing online game but in reality its really offline haha

This game is very nice and very cool and the storyline is magnificent

i prefer .hack G.U. more rather than the 1st one
for both story and gameplay and not to forget to mention the improved graphics

yet i also like the first 4 seasons for its well made storyline

I really think that the game is good. The whole series is so good. I think I might get the game of .hackGU continues the series or starts a new chapter. Other than that, the whole series of the game is good and I might want to play it again, if I get the rest of the series of the game.

Yeah, I agree. One thing that annoyed me from the first .hack games were the "BATTLE MODE-ON" or something that keeps on flashing at the top of the screen when in a fight...=.='' Hurt my eyes a lot

I enjoyed the first 4 games but only because of the plot the game play was lacking. now g.u. on teh other hand still has good plot and its battle system has been massively improved though the dungeons and side quests do get repetitive.
so i recommend .hack\\infection-quarantine for the plot if you can deal with monotonous game play.

over all i just recommend .hack\\g.u. has nice music a pretty good plot and i lived its battle system.

The .hack// series is fun at first, but gets really boring pretty fast. Generally you don't spend too much time on each game. I remember beating the 3rd game in like 2 days... The difficulty of the games is pretty easy too. Once you've beaten one you can beat them all. The story is pretty interesting and there are a lot of characters so there are a lot of "personalities" in the game. The worst thing about the series is how it's split into 4 parts when it's practically the same game in all 4 parts. The game play does not change so you can keep all the items from the previous games, which I guess is a plus. The story evolves little by little through each game and at times it kind of goes no where.

So pretty much it's good, but seems too drawn out.
