This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

Any other listeners to the emo and punk genres here? I'm not talking about the general stereotype of "I hate myself, my girlfriend broke up with me, I want to cut myself" style of emo, I'm talking about the "She broke up with me, but I'm looking ahead, life's waiting for me" kind of emo. I'm talking about the >>GET UP KIDS<<, Reggie and the Full Effect, Motion City Soundtrack, Jack's Mannequin, Weezer, and the like. I'm looking forward to Warped Tour this year with so many of these good bands showing up.

I'd also like to talk about progressive metal but unfortunately that would create too much of a mashup topic. Perhaps another time.

Indeed, overly whiny emo is garbage. I personally can't stand crap like Dashboard Confessional. Emo's not all about whining and complaining, I like it when the lyrics are emotional and inspirational, like the Get Up Kids. They don't have lyrics about being sad and crying(Except for the On a Wire album, which sucked anyway), they write about being insanely in love (Ten Minutes), being all you can be (The One You Want), and even about random stuff like one-night stands (I'm a Loner Dottie, a Rebel).

I personally don't like overly pop-punk bands like SP and GC, but if you like Sum 41 you should give the Get Up Kids a try. Their first album (Four Minute Mile) sounds similar to some of S41 stuff. You should also check out Ellegarden if you don't know about them already.

That's not real punk; I'd call that more pop than anything else.

Yeah, that stuff is definitely pop-punk. Actual punk would be Bad Religion, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, etc. So-Cal punk is Green Day, The Offspring, the Vandals, etc etc.

If there's one thing I never understood, it's why people put Weezer in the emo genre. Anyone care to explain? I really just don't get it. I love Weezer, and some of their stuff could be seen as emo, but overall I don't see them as all that emo.

Weezer has some emotional lyrics, most of them deal with relationships with women and such so that some people say they're emo. I actually like them more as straight up arena rock rather than emo myself, but I felt like they should be mentioned.

And Green Day isn't so-cal. o_O

They're fromt he Bay Area, which is pretty nor-cal.

Some of the stuff i listen have to do with broken relationships type of emo...why? im not even in a rage over some girl...but the music is soo good :D har har
not really emo but bands like Bullet for My Valentine and Bleeding Through are good examples of bands who make songs about breaking up

hey i like jacks manequinn too~!
chek out my myspace page for links to more bands i like if you are bored...lots of screamo, metal, punk and rock
i just dont like the songs [from any emo band] who talk about being ugly...maan no one needs to say that shit about themselves

although i listen to metal and screamo...doesnt mean im the kind of person who is anti social or anything..its just better than stuff that plays on the radio :D

Emo/Screamo for me = Circle Takes the Square

Punk = Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Righteous Jams, SkitSystem, and other hardcore bands I like.

hardcore = punk.

I used to love emo music, but after awhile it really did just get genric and bad. Some of you might be thinking 'punk' but it can just be screamo or hardcore as they call it but I dunno. Anyway yeah my taste for emo music died I think it might just be a spur of the moment thing.

Lostprophets is post-grunge/alternative, not punk. Punk usually revolve around only a select few chords which are played faster than your usual alternative rock.

Nowadays though, the real "true" dead genre of punk I'd have to say is hardcore punk... I mean what happened to the days of Misfits and Minor Threat? Now we have AFI killing the entire genre and a swipe of a hand. decemberunderground is just plain garbage, it had none of the catchy themes of their older stuff and none of the originality of Sing the Sorrow. Songs like Paper Airplanes, Dancing Through Sunday, Leaving Song Part 2 were awesome.
