This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

Hiya,

I love it when I see a new anime title down the pipeline that's based on a popular manga..but somehow the ones that stick pretty close to the storylines are few and getting fewer ;_;. I know anime shows take some liberties, but there are major offenders out there that drag the show down...I like to nominate certain shows (that have finished their broadcasting runs) that have stayed true to their makers and those who have fallen into the pits.

Kudos to Staying True Nominees:
-Maison Ikkoku
-Card Captor Sakura
-Marmalade Boy (I give it half, cause that whole America segment was bogus!! It did end it like the mangas though)
-Full Moon wo Sagashite (poor Meroko, she had the best stuff in the mangas)
-Hana Yori Dango

Leading you down the path of disillusionment:
-Kenshin TV (I'm sorry, I love this show, but the ending and the fillers left a bad taste in my mouth).
-Kodomo no Omacha (stretched an entire season in America, false ending)
-Kare Kano (What kinda ending is this?)
-Kamikaze Kaitoh Jeanne (oh the horror)

I know there's more titles, but these are the only ones that I remember...Anyone else out there have some titles that come to mind?

Hate to say it but narutos following the manga + some.
I'm not exactly positive but probably hunter x hunter.

Does one peice follow the manga? i think it should since one piece is still running :P.

As for anime which dont follow the manga,
what comes to mind, tenjou tenge, midori no hibi, and ichigo100%.

I think Bleach follows the manga, even if the pace is quite fast, it follows the most important point.

One of the worst adaptation may be Samurai Deeper Kyo, it's completely different, I couldn't believe at the first time, all bad guys transform into monsters ...

I was also a bit disappointed by GetBackers, I only have the beginning of the manga, it's the same than the series for the Makubex arc but for the episodes 26-52 , a lot of fillers and the end have been invented :( (overall good anime but I expected better)

Cardcaptor Sakura? Full Moon wo Sagashite? Huh?

I have no idea what you're driving at, frankly. Both are excellent shows--and both (particularly FMwS, CCS less so) are quite different from the manga upon which they're based. Personally I often point to FMwS as an instance of an anime that diverged sharply from the source material and thereby managed to be both original and really, really good.

Anyway... I agree with the poster directly above; Bleach has stuck very close to its manga. Same goes for Monster.

Kare Kano was actually pretty true to the manga. It just ended at a point in the manga, and that was it. If you pick up... volume 8 I think, you can jump right back into the story.

Fruits Basket was and wasn't, it jumbled up stuff, left a bit out and changed the end.

Yakitate!!Japan, is really close to the manga, so much so I've stopped watching it regularly and just watching the episodes I found highly amusing in the manga. XD

Has anyone seen Twelve Kingdoms and if yes, how does it compare to manga/novel counterpart?

Dagger...I chose CCS and FwS cause for the most part they kept to the mangas...it was a lot harder to come up with an anime that was true off the top of my head .

Oro77...Wow, SDKyo is that messed up? O_o?

Just finished reading and watching Aishiteruze Baby...it was satisfying ^_^.

Just remembered: Hikaru no Go...AHhh that was good until it stopped with an ? ending, it's just like Inuyasha ;_;

At the beginning I really loved the manga Samurai Deeper Kyo. Then I watched few episodes of the anime and they changed so many things, so many mysteries were revealed and all the bad guys have lost their charisma because they end up to be a monster.

I think it's kind of censor because when they transform into a monster, they are quickly killed: so it's easier to show a monster cut than a human.

They also add a new character with a psycho-gun like Cobra (Space adventure Cobra lol) and it doesn't fit the samurai era at all

wow. makes me kinda okay with the fact that I can't watch the anime...

anyway to answer the One Piece question, yes the anime follows the manga on the CRUCIAL story line parts. Unfortunately, the anime is so well-paced that they end up catching up with the manga too soon. and hence... FILLER EPISODES OF DOOM. Most of their filler episodes are just horrible. You can skip all of them. it's not important to the story.

---I know for a fact that the anime for .Hack Legends (3rd .hack anime) is completely different from the manga. Although this may be a good thing as the manga was only 3 books and ended pretty badly. Also I think the anime came first this time around.---

Sensual phase is not faithful to the manga. i was kinda dissapointed though in the anime it tells you how the band got together and why they're like how they are.

Slam dunk was very close to its manga counterpart. in fact, the only diversion was that manga covered the nationals and the anime ended the show before the nationals with a game that didnt exist in the manga.

Monster anime is very close to the manga [well, not being faithful to it would be butchering x(].
i didn't like how the hagane no renkinjutsushi anime taken other path than manga, tv series is sooo much worse than the comics. :/

Angel Sanctuary, oh but 3 episodes of it, stuck pretty close to the manga version and it would have been absolutely amazing had there been more...U_U

Excluding the filler, One Piece and Naruto. I forget but Hunter x Hunter, IIRC, was also pretty good in that respect.

Palo: I suppose I can see where you're coming from in regards to CCS, but so many aspects of the FMwS anime are completely and totally different from the manga. Like, not just filler episodes or insignificant stuff like that--entire plot twists were removed or utterly changed. Plus the anime & manga endings are quite different, which IMO counts for a lot. ^^;;

Personally I'm glad that Hikaru no Go television series stopped where it did (I'm not including the 2004 New Year's Special). It was a good ending, at least for me--while it didn't tie up all of the show's loose ends, it provided a great deal in the way of emotional closure and showed Hikaru getting to what had basically been his main goal since the very beginning.

The manga ending is much more random and sudden, anyway. Because of that, I just approach the 2004 New Year's Special as a treat for fans of the manga; the series itself still has a passable ending, I think. *shrugs*
