Musical Intruments

What kind of musical instrument(s) do you play? And what are some of the obstacles that you've encountered while learning how to play them/it? Why did you choose to play it/them? Any advices to those who wants to play the same instrument(s) as you?
~Me? I played violin ( 4/4 regular size) for about 3 and a half years now. I guess the only reason why I chose to play it is because I thought it has the most beautiful sound I've ever heard; I was swept away from the first time I heard it and it helps me improve my hand-eye coordinations, which is an extra bonus. Not to mention that it's very hygienic (you don't have to stick your mouth in it and produce spite). My advices are: 1) be very patient 'cause it's really hard to get the finger postioning right in the beginning 2) practice makes perfect 3)buy a really good shoulder rest, money isn't the case if you don't want to hurt your shoulder and neck 4)your fingers have to move fast with precision and coordination with your bowing hand. Playing piano can help! :)

I also play the Voilin, 4/4 size :D. Since I was nine so for about 16 years now. I only started playing because I had a huge crush on a boy down the street and I found out he played it for school and then the next year after I took it up and was finally able to play in school classes I found out he quit. But it had grown on me by then and I continued to play it, and my parents wouldn't let me quit by then anyway :P I don't know about hygenic, because you can't really get the sweat and bacteria from you hand off of the fingerboard without damaging the finish or drying out the wood. But I remember in highschool we had some of the band in to play with the orchestra and they left puddles in the back of the room from the condesation in thier instruments it was disgusting... With violin my advice is... confidence, if you play with confidence you can learn from your mistakes instead of downplaying them by playing softer.

I like piano, I also can play a littlebit, but I never learned it. It is a good think to can play on a music instrument :)
I used to play the violin at the smallest size 1/4...for a long time. But now I play flute...not too dedicated though. I only take it in the school band. And playing rock songs with a flute isn't a great idea but that's my music teacher.
Guitar, it's either thin and heavy, or light and fat. Been playing for awhile now. Dunno how long though.

My Passion, My Life, My personality: Piano.
It's really amazing to put all your feeling in a certain piece, and when your done playing that piece, you can't feel any better.
Obstacles,, ah .. life is hard:
-Sometimes me and my sisters quarrel 'about who's gonna play; my sisters play both violin and piano.
We build like 8 years ago a room, former barn, which we putted the piano,
although my sis can play violin in their room, they still want to play in that little room, why? because playing in their room makes a lot of noice, which neighbours do not really appreciate..
-School, yah.. school makes my time playin' piano getting less and less
-Technical pieces which i don't like: I have to play 'em, with that i can grow much faster than playing regular pieces.. but since i mentally grown stronger, i don't make a fuss about it.
I never chose to play piano, my parents just threw me into lessons, and i thank them for that.
Advices:
-want to be a big musician? train hard, hours a day, not a half hour, no, 4 hours a day.
-want to play it to relax, play with your feelings, than you'll be able to relax fully.
-Listen to your teacher (!)(!)

I played the piano for about 9 years before I quit 2-3 years ago. I played the string(upright) bass for 3 years in middle school (this was 4 years ago). I've been playing electric bass sometimes for a few months, but I don't take lessons for it.

Does anyone play the trombone? I'm thinking about playing the trombone in the band class while playing violin in string class next year. I've asked some kids in band class and they all said that trombone's really difficult to play. I wanna join the school's stage band and jazz band next year so my only option is to play the trombone (I can't play piano, can't play saxophone cuz I don't have experience with clarinet, and the band teacher probably won't let me play trumpet). So any advices for me?
Like a lot of other people, piano. I've been very busy with it lately, taking a practical and written test, a duet performance in New York and the typical coming recital. Which reminds me, I should be practicing right now... '-_-

I used to play the clarinet when I was in the 7th grade. I wasn't too bad at it, either. At one point I even made it to first chair in the school band. I've always thought about trying my hand at it again. I really enjoyed it.
I used to play the alto saxophone when I was a kid for a few years but I was never really good at it, even I practiced a lot. I just wasn't musically gifted I guess. However, I loved the saxophone only because it was such a cool looking instrument to play.
I used to be quite the guitarist, but as I began focusing more on my current career I dropped off quite a bit. I also dabbled in piano and vocals, and infact composed a piece that was performed by a 4 piece string group. I'll probably end up returning to my musical talents when I will need to pursue hobbies but for now I'm fairly content in listening to the arts rather then creating.

I started playing the piano at 6 years old then began to play the guitar around 13 years old (both rhythm and bass) and at about 23 years old i began playing the drums. never really had any obstacles though i was very musically inclined, runs in the family i guess which brings me to why i began playing mainly i was required to (no choice) by my mother to play piano and it was like music inspired my soul and have been hooked ever since.

I currently play the viola, which is like a bigger version of the voilin, for about 1 and a half years now. I started to play the viola at my school orchestra class, since its required you take a music class for high school not because i wanted to, but it grew on me and I took the next level of the class the this year too. I guess my biggest obstacle is to keep a steady rythym, which is why the metronome is of great help to me. Some advice would be to have patience when practicing and when your messing, like I do alot, and to play music you like and enjoy becuase then you won't feel like your forcing yourself to play it, which I some times feel like I do because it's hard for me to find sheet music for the viola since it isnt that popular.
I used to play the clarinet in high school. Band was a required class in 6th grade. After that it was an elective that you could choose. (It was either band or art.) For a while, the teacher drilled us in how to read the notes, how to play the notes, etc. When it came time to choose our instruments, I just randomly chose the clarinet. I actually liked it, and after much squeaking, got pretty good at it. ^^ It was fun playing the clarinet. I wanted to be the best so I practiced for a whole summer. XD
I stopped playing during my junior year because the band wasn't as big and we didn't have many occassions to play. One of the many disadvantages of going to a small school. >.>
