Great Teacher Onizuka
I'm surprised that there aren't any threads about this anime, so I decided to make one. I've just finished watching this series and it's definitely one of the best animes that I've seen so far (I've watched about at least 100+ different anime series' btw). Also, Great Teacher Onizuka is funny as hell and it has great sense of the term "slice of life!"
For those who don't know GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) is a about an ex-biker gang member becoming a school teacher after graduating from college. To make matters worse he's in charge of the infamous class 3-4 whom are known for there "classroom terrorism." So the anime is about his ordeals in winning over the infamous class 3-4 using the life skills and personality traits gained from being an ex-biker.
Discuss! Discuss! What does everyone think of GTO!
P.S. If you're going to watch this series do yourselves a favour and watch the Japanese version. The dub version has some censorship issues so you're not getting a complete translation. Not only that but the dub voice acting is atrocious!

I finished GTO just a few days ago. Half dub, the rest subs. (Preferred: subs, though the dub was OK at best) I have to say it is really comedic and a very excellent series. There were a couple of weird episodes (Fuyutsuki's ep) that didnt really fit in though. The ending seemed to come about too suddenly and I think they could've dove into it a little bit more than they did. Then again, I havent read the manga yet, so I dont know how that handled everything.
I loved the episodes about Yoshikawa and Uehara. That's so cute, and I wanted to know/see more about it. X3

From the start I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this anime. Not ever having watched a "comedy" themed anime before I was quite skeptical about how it would actually be pulled off. Don't get me wrong I love comedy but apart from the ocassional funny bits in various animes (Trigun, RK, etc.) I haven't ever watched an anime centered around comedy.
However, all my fears were put to rest with the very first episode. The story (and all to follow) was cleverly conceived and very well paced. The animation style is a bit odd at times but works well in my opinion to accentuate facial features and display the humor element of each situation. This series made me laugh out loud countless times...something I didn't expect (I thought it would possibly be funny...but not laugh out loud funny).
For those who haven't seen this series I highly reccomend it if your looking for a great time and alot of entertainment. Onizuka, the lead, is one of the best and most interesting anime characters to date.

Great Teacher Onizuka is probably one of the most enjoyables mangas I've read. The art is excellent, and I like all those grotesque expressions from Onizuka himself. Also, the story is sort of strange, but I can imagine it to happen in real life (a bit less exaggerated, of course).
Haven't watched the anime yet. After reading some parts of the manga (AKA the first books), do you recommend me to watch it? Be honest, please.

If only to see everything animated and voiced, then yeah, of course the anime would be good. But basically, the anime is the first 13 or 14 volumes of the manga, with a few small changes, etc. So, go ahead watch it for those first volumes and a kind of "alternate ending".
Volume 14 (or 15?) up to 25 of the manga are things not seen in the anime.
I really liked both anime and manga, but prefered the manga ending over the anime. Oh, and ~Yawara, the manga DOES have some more Noboru x Anko scenes. I like the pairing a lot too. =P

I've seen the whole episodes and it was fun and good but i thought the ending was a little bit too fast ...
I think one or 2 more episodes will have been better. For example, onizuka coming back or ...

Both anime and manga was great, except I would agree with the rest here; manga was better. There was more storyline in the manga, but nevertheless, the anime was entertaining as well. Just keep to the original jap instead of the dubbed version, whether it's english or chinese!
Manga>Live Action>Anime
Tohru Fukisawa weaves one of the most awesome storylines that have been used in Japan for a long, long time. GTO has a great bunch of diverse characters with distinct personalities that just draws you in. I remember when Tokyopop just released the manga that I couldn't wait for the next month to come with the next volume. (Of course some of the waits were actually two months...slow ass translators.)
I didn't like the anime too much...I felt like I was watching Hokuto no Ken but with less action and a bit worse animation. The Live Action, in my opinion, is much better. Takashi Sorimachi makes such a nice Onizuka. Especially with chopsticks up his nose. ;D

GTO was one of those animes i tried to get family members to watch, crazy me. but some of my younger relatives enjoyed it as i did, i guess its one of those funny/serious/life lessons animes that are fun to watch. whenever i don't find anything good to watch anymore i always get a craving to rewatch gto again just because its so amusing and onizuka's adventures and reactions are so off the wall.
