New LCD monitor! HELP!
1 Page: [ 1 ]
Hey, I just got a 900w proview 19" monitor and i have a problem. The max resolution my comp will go to is 1280x1024 when now it's supposed to be 1440x900. help me i am so confused, and the disk the monitor came with isn't helping!
And apparently it's still in CRT mode...i can't bring up any LCD features.
I realise this may not be enough info, but seriously, ask me and I'll tell you! Just please, help me out! I got this so i could have a better resolution, but for now everything is just streched out...images are longer...everything is longer...i understand text bein smaller but not image distortion.
Have a nice day!

Do you have a product page or something? I looked up ProView 900w and turned up nothing really relevant. Attempted proview.com(if thats even their site and thats under contruction).
Also.. have you tried dropping the bit depth of the color to 16-bit isntead of 32-bit(temporarily) to see if that allows you to set to higher resolutions.
..and when you look at your display properties and you are in the settings tab(I am assuming you have windows if not then oops) what does the resolution slider actually go up to? does it work at that full resolution and are you certain that yor monitor is designed to go up to the resolution you want it to go to.
lastly.. sometimes a monitor that can do 1024x768 @ 80hZ can only do 1280x1024 at only 75hZ. In other words click the advanced button and go to the monitor tab. lower the refresh rate or whatever they call it.. it's in a pull-down menu. .... of course this might not even apply to LCD's.. i'm still using tubes -_-

I tried changing to 16 bit and it still won't go any higher...yes 1280x1024 is the highest the slider can go.
plus my comps at 60hz...i have no idea what hz is, but if it's so low, shouldn't my comp be able to handle it?
yes, this company is very sketchy, but the monitor should support that resolution. when i insert the disk i get parent directories...i think they are supposed to be drivers but i think i have the right driver??
tried the hp website for drivers, but i have no idea what to do.
is it possible my poor comp can't support LCD? the box says to check my video card's website for drivers, but i have no idea how to find out what my video card maker is...

The cursor of resolution indicates the max resolution the video card can give and not the max of the screen if i remember well; sometimes, finding new drivers can help to solve this problem but sometimes it is not enough ...
It depends on the vga ...
If you want to know which vga is on your computer, install the program everest from Lavalays which gives you a lot of useful informations like vga, ...
So you can find appropriate drivers for your vga.
Good luck.

If you right click on the desktop, choose properties, then choose the settings tab.
There should be a line underneath the picture of a screen, which reads something like:
LG FLATRON L1715S on RADEON 9600 SERIES
what does yours say?

If i'm not wrong, the underlined thing means that you have an integrated vga chipset in you motherboard ...
The manufacturer is SIS ...
Integrated vga are not so powerful ... I suggest you to buy another vga and disable the integrated one, you'll see great improvements.
Although buying a graphics card may be one solution, the fact that it will run at 1280x1024 = (1,310,720 pixels) but not at 1440x900 = (1,296,000 pixels), seems strange.
As your monitor is being reported as "Plug and Play monitor" it would seem that the drivers are not installed properly for your monitor.
you will need to find out the exact model of your graphics chipset. You should be able to find this out by doing the following:
1) right click on the desktop
2) choose properties
3) choose the settings tab
4) in the window that has opened choose the adapter tab
5) your graphics chipsets model should be written in the "adapter information" section
6) note down what graphics chipset you have.
BEFORE you try my instructions below on installing your display driver visit THIS PAGE and follow their instructions. As you may need to update your graphics card drivers, BIOS or possibly both, before you can run a display at 1440x900.
If the above didn't help try the instructions below
Can you try to install the drivers that came with the monitor.
1) right click on the desktop
2) choose properties
3) choose the settings tab
4) in the window that has opened choose the monitor tab
5) under monitor type, click properties
6) in the window that has opened choose the driver tab
7) insert your driver disk
8) choose update driver
9) click the radio button that says "install from a list or specific location (advanced)"
10) click next
11) click the radio button that says "search for the best driver in these locations"
12) tick the box that says "search removable media"
13) un-tick the box that says "include this location in the search"
14) click next (the computer should search your driver disk you inserted for drivers)
15) there should now be a list of drivers which you can choose from (or there may only be one), select the one that has the same name as your screen (should have 900w in the name).
16) once you have selected the right driver, click the next/install/finish button (I can't go this far so I'm not sure which it is)
You should now have the right driver for your screen installed and should be able to choose the 1440x900.

As your monitor is being reported as "Plug and Play monitor" it would seem that the drivers are not installed properly for your monitor.
Just a remark :
My drivers are installed properly but the monitor is reported as "plug and play" because it's an old one (crt 17")
but it works correctly.
I had drivers for the monitor when using Windows 98 SE & was recognized as trust 17" ...
Not important.
I think drivers is the thing that can help and do not forget to properly remove previous before installing new ones.
Saka4Rob10 -> SiS makes general video cards as well. They're not very common but sometimes they pop up on low end PCs. With the shakeout of video card manufacters, SiS is a nich player mainly producing onboard VGA.
--
Saka4Rob10 probably pegged it though. I would think this is a limitation of the video card, not the monitor. Not all video cards can do all resolutions, especially when you're talking about oddball ones like 1440x900. A Proview will DEFINATLY have a refresh rate of 60hz. If you ever get it set up, I highly recommend you calibrate the "phase" or courseness or whatever they call it on the monitor. I've had to deal with more than a few proview monitors and I can tell you first hand that it can cause major eye strain (even if it looks fine) if you don't have it set up right.

Here's a quote from the site (SIS support) I posted earlier:
I'm not entirely sure if this means that the graphics chipset can never support 1440x960, or if it will support 1440x960 after the BIOS and drivers have been updated.
Anyway it looks like all the 600 series are embedded graphics chipsets rather than a separate graphics cards.
Why my SiS Integrated Graphic can not support 1440x900 resolution?
If your SiS integrated graphic (SiS650 series, SiS661 series, SiS740, SiS741 series, and SiS760 series) can not support 19" WXGA for 1440x900 resolution, you may check some information below:
1. Update the latest UniVGA3 driver, you may download from Download Center.
2. Check your VBIOS version, go to "Control Pannel"->"Display"->"Settings"->"Advanced"->"Administrator"->"Product information", and you can see the VBIOS information, please check if it is updated to 2.28.00 or later.
3. If your VBIOS version is not 2.28.00 or later, you have to update your BIOS, please contact your board maker or system provider to get BIOS update support.

DeepDragoon is correct. The SiS6xx chips WILL NOT support any widescreen resolutions because frankly, they're a piece of crap. If you have a AGP or even a PCI-Express slot, you should upgrade to an actual video card. If your monitor has a DVI port (I don't believe it does from what I read on Proview's website but IF it does) you should get a video card with a DVI port as the picture quality will look much better.
Everyone here already pretty much covered all the bases you should do. If you're seriously keeping that LCD and using the onboard VGA with it, it looks like you're going to need to reflash your bios. Reflashing your bios can be dangerous if you're not sure what you're doing, so buying a cheap AGP or PCI-E video card might be the safer route for you.
