Philosophical Question
Human nature is an interesting thing. Predictable at times and at others so wonderfully complex that we can not even begin to imagine..... now then
Do you believe people are "good", "evil", neither or both?
Do you believe people are "good", "evil", neither or both?
Yes. I'm both and I can change in different situations. I'd say it's really handy sometimes

I will have to say both. Certain situations call for different type. Whether good or evil works the best for the result you desire will be acceptable. I am mostly good until something "moves me" in a different way. I guess an example will be someone who decides to start something with my friends. I become "evil" and engage with the other person. I don't really care about the consequences that go with it just as long as I get the result----P.A.I.N (_/)..
From nature's perspective there's no such thing as evil, regardless.
From society's perspective, however, the answer is ambivalent. For in the end, it's all down to the human on whom judgment is passed upon with this question. A human is a unique entity, everyone is different, it's all a matter of how much.

I believe that all humans have both the capacity to be "good" and the capacity to be "evil." In addition I don't think that a person can ever be completely "good" or completely "evil." I'm not religious but for lack of a better term we all harbor an inner angel and inner demon.
I dont know if I can put truth into this or not. I think everyone can act good, or evil if thet choose to. I dont think there is such a label like that though. People's personalities are complex and not one sided such as good and evil stereo types in movies, video games, manga, anime, etc. So if you're a fairly happy and optimistic person, there would come times in your life were you'd get depressed and angry, anyone does, and it doesn't make you an actually bad human being, its just how complex our brains and thinking have evovled.
But nevertheless, I believe there are people that have dark hearts but I do also think, that they can redeem themselves and change drastically if they put their mind to it.

The true nature of the humans is evil.

Yes, like most of the others said, it could be a bit of both. No human can survive by being purely evil or purely good. You have to be versatile with your nature so that you can handle each situation as best as you can.
Also, even though the act itself may be classified as good or evil, you have to consider some things, such as the intention of the person, the motive of the person, the end result of the act, if it was an accident or not, and all those other things. Like, for example, a man murders some other guy. OK, murder is bad, but what if the man did it to protect his wife and kids?
An act in itself cannot be used to classify human nature...Heck, I don't think you can properly classify human nature. It's too broad to slip down the aisles of either good or evil. XD

Wonderful timing, Mencius says all people are born good. but thats probably just optimism on his part.
For one thing, nobody in the world actually commits a horrible act and believe themselves to be evil, it all depends on perspective. Any person that we think is evil, thinks themselves to be doing the right thing for their situation. And there's always going to be people that agree with them, that they were doing the right thing.
So i guess im getting at that evil and good are all perspectives...

We are both evil and good...come on, if we are evil...this world will ruin..because everyone will kill each other..having war in every country..and also..no world peace at all...there is no police..fireman..doctor..teacher if everyone is evil..
I agree with Chau...that people will not think that they are doing evil although others around might think so...
However, I think people are born good, like how Mencius said, just that their perspectives are influenced by the environment and people around them...Mostly people would think that there's nothing wrong doing evil if they are brought up in an environment teaching them so...Hmm...it depends on perspectives again >.<

I think there's no such thing as "good" and "evil".
Our society's values create these so we can all live together in (a relative) peace. But if you change society, you realize that the definiton of "good" and "evil", what is "good" and what is "wrong" changes. For example when I lived in Tokyo I was really surprised to see all these salarymen drinking with their buddies instead of going home to their families.
In the occidental societies, a man getting drunk with thier friends instead of eat and spend the evening with their family is considered like wrong. But in Japan, salarymen who go home instead of going out with their collegues is considered as egoist and self-centered.
So, to answer to the question, I'd say everyone of us does some good and some bad, it depends on the point of view.

Yes, I agree that there is no such thing as good or evil. It's the society that dictates what is intolerable or what is acceptable, all for the purpose of peaceful coexistence.
Can you be anymore vague?
Define "good" and "evil"
Just so you know, unless someone defines these words, they don't exist. In other words, good and evil are nothing more than man made concepts, unfortunately. At least, you can't prove whether something is "good" or "evil" through logic.
Just so you know, this world is not black and white; it's gray.
