This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

I don't really care what the manga company is. it's just the manga that really matters, although i don't like how Del-Ray is a bit more expensive than lets say tokyopop. but i don't really favor one company over another...

Del Rey is definitely the best. I buy xxxHolic and Tsubasa (which are published by them) and they just ooze quality. Instead of not translating the sound effects at all (*cough*Tokyopop*cough*) or completely replacing them with English ones (*cough*Viz*cough*), they put the translations in small print right next to the original Japanese sound effects. Plus, they include the color pages at the beginning of the manga. The best part is the translation notes at the back, though. I don't even mind that their manga is pricer than others because they put so much care into making it really good.

Tokyopop is okay. Sometimes I notice inconsistencies and typos, but otherwise they're fine. They have color pages in some of their mangas, but I don't know if they've just started doing it, they're being selective, or some manga just don't have color pages. I'm quite happy with the way they've handled Suikoden i and Fruits Basket.

ADV is good overal, with reliable translations and translator notes. They also translate sound effects like Del Rey and include color pages. The thing that really, really, sucks about them is that they fired about 25 people from their manga division and are going to concentrate mainly on manga that they also own the anime rights for. This means that many of their manga are going to be released even MORE slowly, or dropped altogether. Several of them haven't even gotten a second volume despite being released last year.

Viz is... not so good. They replace the sound effects with English ones which obsucres the artwork, they don't include color pages, their covers and logos for manga are usually pretty bad, they tend to be a little edit-happy, and they're pretty slow with some series. Also, they messed up Rose's name in FMA.

I don't own any manga by the other companies, but I'm never buying anything from CMX because of the way they treated Tenjho Tenge. I'm not a fan of that series, but what they did is just silly.

i didnt hear del rey???
i have to look for it

I own few manga, but I think Tokyopop rocks. Their manga selection/quality is decent, and I like the fact that they're going more fan-based in the manga industry with things like publishing American manga and releasing a monthly web/seasonal print manga magazine.

For people who can understand spanish (specially castillian, from Argentina): try to get some volumes of a company named IVREA, those guys edit way too good mangas, for example the Cardcaptor Sakura manga comes with the special sakura and clow cards (which came in the japanese ones). Whenever they can they will come with the color pages and stuff like that, This company is my number one choice, even if i have to wait to go there to get the mangas in spanish.

Their Clover's edition is very similar to the one I saw in USA, so no thoughts there.

I think JumpShonen does a good job with Bleach. So no complaints with them at all.

Without a doubt, it's DMP. Their products are wonderful, with pristine reproduction, gorgeous dust jackets and smoothly flowing English translations. Although I read a lot of BL scanlations, there's really something to be said for being about to hold a manga volume in your hand. When I buy DMP manga, I do feel like I get that something extra for my money. So I'm willing to forgive them their higher prices. It doesn't hurt that their yaoi division licenses a lot of series I'm interested in...

I enjoy Tokyo pop. They are a really huge company with lots of awsome manga.
But Shojo Beat/Shonen Jump/Viz, has great stuff too!

Most of the Mnaga i buy is by Tokyo pop, I have no complains about tokyopop, although sometimes, the translations isn't as good, sometimes, they translate it till it isn't so funny anymore. other than that, its quite good, easier to understand. viz, its okay, but i have no particular reason for likeing it, i just don't like some ways they translate it. ChuangYi from Singapore is my favourite. its more affoprdable than Tokyopop or Viz and more readily available. For example, Tokyopop costs S$17.90, Chuangyi costs S$7.90. A lot of difference, thank god they have chuanyi or there will be a hole in my pocket.

Tokypop is great, they have so many titles to choose from. I also love Del Rey and VIz, they would have to be my three favorite american manga publishers...or whatever you call them.

Dark Horse is my favorite with good translations and the way they work with the original artists, such as with Blade of the Immortal, the manga-ka prefers it to be published in left to right format and redraws the page if there is a problem with the art work being flipped. It's nice to know they keep the lines of comunication open.
