This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

I guess most of us has experienced reading a book/manga/comic series and then seeing them be turned into a movie/s. Now the question I ask here is 'what do you think of these adaptations? Do you find them good or do you find them lacking in comparison to the books that you've read?"

It's been argued alot that good books cannot be summed up in a single movie, although I personaly consider Lord of the Rings as a great work, where Peter Jackson did an amazing job to interpret it in the movies. Another good adaptation in my opinion is the short-story "The Green Mile" turned into a movie with the same name.

However there are others where I consider the movie adaptation lacking and pretty bad, an example from the book "Timeline" where the movie adaption was very weak. Another one I considered (in my opinion) pretty weak was the adaptation of "Daredevil". Personally I found the comic series entertaining, yet the movie, wasn't as good as it could've been. It wasn't a good interpretation of the heroes's life in the comic strip.

Well, I'd like to hear your opinions, and if you can back it with examples please do.

A lot of it depends on the director and how they take the storyline, because some adaptations are wonderful and other are just pure crap. I think in general, most adaptations of books/manga/comics are not up to par.

I think that the main thing that effects the way that audiences interpret the movies is their take on the manga, novel, anime, etc. For me, if it isn't exactly how I imagined the literary work, the movie is ruined for me. Just like the Death Note movie coming out. I have read the first 5 books and I have gotten very used to the characters and their appearances and the setting. When I saw the movie preview with REAL actors and actresses, I was kinda thrown off (Although they did a good job finding people that looked like L and Light ^^). As for most movie adaptations that I've seen w/o reading the literary work, I have been mildly disappointed. This goes the same for Movie adaptations of games and game adaptations of movies.

I think, the adaptation movies are the great way to visualize the novels, books, etc about it. For the example, Eragon. Sure we'll find more on the physical appearance of Eragon himself, not only the descreption of him. But the cons that oftenly appear on the adaptation movies are the cut of the timeline. Many of my friends said that Eragon's movie cut so many part of it's novels(I don't know about that, because I don't buy it's novels ^^). I can understand the cutting of the part of the story, to reduce it's duration(is there anyone who can still survive on the cinema for 4 hours? ^^), beside the duration itself, the cost to make the film isn't a little. ^^ But sure, the movie is needed for us to understand the part of novel that needs a visualization to be understood. ^^

Their are sure a few good but it is very difficult for film makers to do so cause in books more things are described than can be shown in a film.

for example the film eragon, for me he wasn't that bad but good in my eyes is something other cause i read it before i have had a lot more information in my mind wich i expected to be in the film, and i was crestfallen that what i expected wasn't there. the only film made from a book or a series i defenatly say it reaches all of my expectations is probably " lord of the rings ".

with comic or manga adaptations it is a whole other thing cause manga and comics are bounded in what htey could show to the reader. a film could show more of the story around the main story line than in a comic or manga. so iknow more comic or manga adaptations that reached my expectations than i know bookadaptation wich do the same.

Just taking up the example of eragon, the movie in my opinion was total crap. it didn't follow the stroy of the book for half the time and the ending was crap as well.
it's probably one of the worst examples of a movie adaption.
a good example would be lord of the rings, it didn't have as much detail as the books did but it did a nice job in showing the most important parts of the book while sticking to it.

I all depends some of them i think they are realy good.. but like the 4th movie of harry potter i think that there's alot missing... they should of made like two movies out of it or something.. it's not that it's bad or anything just to much missing... and also when theres things they change while making the movie i hate it when they do that... when they make movies outof books i think that the person who wrote them should be there when they make the movie that way they could say if it's like that they saw things that way the public would maybe like the movies even better.. or atlease thats what i would do being the writer of the story...

but many of them are pretty good

Using the example of Lord of the Rings, I did not fully appreciate the story of the Lord of the Rings until I had seen the movie trilogy. Although I had read the novels beforehand, I had trouble understanding what was going on and because of this the story progression slowed to a halt (as I was rereading numerous sections) and I could barely bring myself to finish it. However, once I saw the movie (which of course condensed each novel into a 2 hour long film) the story became much more exciting and I actually 'enjoyed' it. At the same time though, a series like Harry Potter does not condense well into a 2 hour long movie and loses a lot, story wise, in the process (though I'm sure Lord of the Rings lost a lot in the movie adaptation as well, I didn't understand enough of it to catch anything significant). I guess it just depends on the series =/
