Otaku Fashion - Geshiken
1 Page: [ 1 ]
I was watching Genshiken. It is an anime about anime club. I am not sure if a lot of people watch this series, but I like it a lot. It discusses a lot of issues related to Otaku.
This week, it discusses about Otaku Fashison. It is true that Otaku likes to spend their money on game, manga, dvd boxes, figures, posters, etc... and they do not have time to spend money on clothes? Do you think it is true? If you are an anime fan, do you think you have fashion sense? Or you think it doesn't matter wat I wear as long as I can watch my animes.
To me, I am an otaku. I bought Cosplay, mangas, figures, and pins. A lot of my money goes into these areas but i still think Fashion is important.
A lot of people think Otaku wears oversize clothes or not really fashion.
What do you think?

Otaku Fashion = Anime shirts, hats, pants, underwear,
applies to games and mangabooks (i do own a backpack with the awesome logo of the SOS brigade :D...) There's your otaku fashion,

One of the reasons many Otaku aren't into fashion is that they aren't visually very stunning. Much like in Genshiken(Which I love)about half of Otaku are not the most attractive people. Those same people, even if they weren't Otaku, wouldn't be predisposed to fashion. Also many Otaku wear the anime/games/whatever shirts, pants, hat, backpack, everything. And that isin't horribly fashionable. So by my estimate about one third of Otakudom has a good chance at being "Spiffy"
I consider myself somewhat of an otaku and I spend quite a bit of money on designer clothes, as well as on things like anime and manga. I don't look like those characters in Genshiken (I love that manga!) but I do notice there are quite a few number of otaku at anime conventions who do look like that.
Hehe I love Genshiken. As for the 'Otaku Fasion' I don't know if you can call what they wear in that show an actual fashion. Refering to ep 14, I don't think wearing cheap clothes or oversized hoodies is really connected to being an otaku. Of course, you could call it a fasion if you want ;P. Cosplay and anime related clothing would probably be more of a fasion to me.
I think otaku fashion = anything anime, manga related. I think I look awesome rocking my Rurouni Kenshin backpack and an anime t-shirt with some jeans. That's my fashion right there ^_^ Well I rather buy anime than spend my money on the latest fashion trend that will only last for one season.
I haven't seen this anime but for "Otaku fashion" I don't know why they wear like most(T-shirt, glasses, jean and backpack) ^^", for me, I'm not otaku but I spend my money to buy manga, DVD anime and figure. I don't care my fashion I want to dress like ordinary people look but...I love to use big backpack...^^"
I just think that otaku (anime fan) doesn't make much money but they spend all on their collections. that why they have no money to put on fashion. Also, otaku spends their times watching anime, they have no time to take care of themselves. Otaku doesn't care about their appreance because they stay in the anime community - almost everybody looks the same.
I just really like Genshiken because it discusses the matter of otaku life. It is a life from Otaku planet.

Hehe, I consider myself a big time anime fan even though I don't buy a lot of anime stuff other than posters. I watch A LOT of anime though. And I would love to cosplay if I had enough time to make outfits. The thing with Genshiken though, is that they're only portraying ecchi lovers (or that's what I remember). I'm not a fan of ecchi, so maybe I'm not that kind of otaku, but I would say that I'm pretty fashionable (with cheap clothes).
Actually, does being an otaku mean you have to stay at home all day watching anime and forget about the real world? I don't go out often if I don't need to, but I kinda have to keep "in" for job and life purposes. I also like to look good. And wouldn't it be weird to watch all these animes with characters who have cool hair and clothes but be a mess yourself? That's more like a hikikomori (NHK ni Youkoso!) than an otaku lol.

What most people don't get is that in japan if you're called an otaku is more of an insult then anything else
Even though i'm getting there, i can't find myself to get into the clothes sense of the otaku fashion. Unfortunately, i do alot of hiking/backpacking so i almost always live by the "Same shirt, different day" rule. As long as i have a shirt, pants, underwear, socks, shoes, and a nalgene (water bottle) its all good. As for the other things, i do find myself spending alot of money on figurines and wall scrolls. I dunno what it is about them but i have a constant need to keep finding more and more. To be honest i'm saving up to have Katsuya Matsumura make me a pc case thats a 1:1 scale character ^_^ I can't decide whether to get it to be Rikku from ffx-2 or to just get a catgirl maid...
But what angers me most is around here when the "caucasian"...eh white otaku, sorry if i offend anyone, kids go around wearing the ricehats and try talking with an accent. I mean cmon, you don't see me getting dressed up as a pilgrim and pretend to shoot native american's do you ¬_¬'
