I would make him go all the way to the bottom for starters in case people have their start bar hidden, it would look really funny to them. Also Ed looks a little washed out there, color wise that is. Maybe you could try making the bg a darker red so his coat doesn't disappear into it.
*edit* also there are a few white bits in his hair which you should go back and clean up, keep going though :)

I think I took the opacity down too much as well. Now that I'm staring at it on my desktop, I realize that I could have cut him out better too, or at least smoothed out the edges. Thanks for the input.

Photobucket tends to resize images if they are too large. I make all my wallpapers in 1024x768.
That bottom pic does look a little bit off. *checks* Yep. For some reason it's just a tad smaller.

Yeah that picture looks fine now, you could also try making the text a different colour so it stands out, white might look good, but that depends on if you want it to stand out or not
I didn't want the text to be much of a focal point, more of a little detail than anything. :) I definately prefer the new version. Thanks for the suggestions.
I think that you should make the text blend in more. I mean a bevel & emboss the fill: 0%? That just seems tacky to me. Also some cleaning up would be nice too on the scan. You could look up some tutorials on it cause it would really help. The background seems a little plain to me too. Like a render clouds kinda thing basically. Maybe spruce it up a bit?
