Gears of War
I really wish I could find a search function because I figure someone must have made this thread by now.
In any case lets discuss this game.
First of all, it looks simply stunning. FEAR with a good computer looks stunning, and looking at the xbox GOW is simply amazing. The game looks so clean and so beautiful.
The single player is fun and challenging when you set the difficulty to insane or hardcore. The story is pretty good too, but leaves an opening for GoW 2, 3, and GoW 400.
The golden point of the game though is the multiplayer. It has its' flaws though. The shotgun is basically the only gun to use, frag tag is annoying, and the host has such an advantage that its riddiculous. Other than that its a very cool multiplayer that is fast paced and pretty realistic.
Your thoughts?

As you said, it looks very good indeed, although there are some elements that looks very bad at the same time. As for the multiplayer, I agree to some extent, in the bottom line I dont really wanna say that there are any advantages since I do believe that eventually it all comes down to how good you are.
It is widely agreed upon that the host has the advantage. They are always a second ahead of you. I have done blind fire pistoling while advancing against the host and the host did the same to me. We both hit each other about the same amount of times and when it comes down to the melee blow to finish one another off, the host always gets his off first.
Also, the weapon selection is very limited which lowers the variety.
Do you have the game? It sounds like you don't, but at the same time it sounds like you do.

I have the game but I didn´t play the multiplayer mode...I started playing with the campaign mode and I was ver impressed by the way the story is presented, the action that irradiates from the game, the incredible soundtrack of the game, so epic and so cool, I like the control of the characters, and how you take cover, and make blind-fire, or you use your chainsaw to cut down some Locust guys...this last thing is one of the best I can ever do in a game (the blood splashing, the sound of the chainsaw opening cutting your enemy in two and how Marcus says something funny when he does that kind of "operation").
I like the Locust too, the manner they move, how they make tactics and the many types of them appearing in the game: the berseker, the corpser and a lot more ( I played the spanish version of the game so I don´t know the name of the enemies in english ^^U).
But I think too, the multiplayer is cool, I played a few times with system link and it was very addicting as the cooperation mode.
A excelent game for Xbox360 and a good one for play while we waiting for Halo 3

I have the game and it rocks. Its just down right awesome. The first thing that I immediately liked was the running. In Halo 2, you always have a constant speed but in Gears of War you can control it, and run. Since your always running in Halo 2, it makes you feel slow. But in Gears they do speeds very well and it`s an awesome touch. The shooting is also very well done. Its fun, the quick cover is something you get the hang of relatively fast and the chainsaw addition to the game is, awesome.
Shotgun is pretty damn powerful, can't tell how many times I've unloaded bullets on another person only to have myself split into gibs by a shotgun. As for frag tagging, it rarely happens.

Well the game is good, but not anything to lose yourself over. The game itself doesn't have a story, since all of the story is on the bonus disk, a DVD, that comes with the limited edition version. I never saw the videos on the disk, but from what I know they aren't on earth and the main character is in jail because he left his post on E-Day to save his father. Good game but it's really BS that you have to buy the limited edition in order to know the story of the game.
Multi-player is kinda lame for the most part, then again I haven't played it that much.

Actually you don`t need the limited edition, the limited edition includes 'Destroyed Beauty' the art book of Gears of War where you can see all the concept art and what not. It also has the road to E3 and a DVD about the making of Gears of War. And thats about it.
By the way Baka324, I know what you mean. The shotgun is very powerful, and if your opponent is in close range, and just did a perfect reload, he could kill you with one shot.

I like the game, but I still dont like it as much as halo. When I got gears, i thought I was going to like it better, but I didn't.
I think the coolest part of the game is when you run lol

Ive got the game. Its a great game! Its something new, being third person rather than first, so I like that. The graphics are amazing too of course. Only problem I have with the game(single & multiplayer) is that all the maps, are linear.
You basically just follow the area in a line and shoot the bad guys that come up in front of you. So while they have this big element of hiding there is no stealth. On one hand its good because you get right into the action. I love the multiplayer, still havnt finished single player. Unfortunatley I dont have the hard drive for the extra maps they came out with.

I absolutly love the game, the visuals are beautiful! with layers upon layers of stunning textures. And the gameplay equally compliments the great graphics, the fluid controls and pacing of action scenes are just perfect in my opinion. And the variety of scenary is great as well from ruined action packed cities to spooky abandoned factories and of course the train level.
But my favorite thing about Gears is of course the Online Co-Op Mode! I'll take this baby over any Deathmatch Multi Game anyday, it is absolutly perfect and it makes you wonder why more Games don't include it. And it's not some half-assed mode either. Most of the time you'll both be playing together helping each other out, but at other times you'll be forced to split up to activate a door or aim the search light on your guy so he can get past the kryll.
The only thing I really don't like about Gears is the Multiplayer Mode, the lag is just horrible in this Game which really affects your aim badly. And the Shotgun is extremely inconsistent. And for me personally there is way to much emphasis on close-range combat in Multi.
And although the graphics are really beautiful, the textures can sometimes take quite a while to load. And more often then not you'll be running around a few low-res locations.
But other then that the Game is simply perfect!

My bro brought his X360 over about a week ago and I played GoW for about 6 hours straight. It's an awesome game. A little slow at times, but overall I'd say it's probably the best game out for the system by a wide margin.

Gears of War imo is a stunning achievment graphically and gameplay wise. The graphics on my computer monitor are notably better so this is a game where you can see the difference in hd. Gameplay wise, Gears offers a unique view on the teamplay- tactical genre with new ways to fight and new ways to overcome obstacles.
I agree it looks amazing and has a nice refreshing gameplay (well its not exactly a new concept, but it kinda feels different). I am dissapointed about how short the campaign was way to short, i remember fighting the last lvl and i thought the boss was just a minor character -.- but i guess i was wrong, the game ended!
The multiplayer i only had a handful of tries and it was definently fun for awhile, tho hah i guess after a few days i lost interest cause its quite limited.

I don't have a Xbox 360, but I do pI'll tell this right now. It's a game to play, but the controls are the main issue for me. For example, I tried to get off or run a certain way, it's always the A button that I have to use and sometimes it get me killed (come on Epic, at least put some better control in the game). When someone is trying to kill me, I try to kill them, but they kill me quicker instead. A couple of times, I remember that I'm still stuck on the wall. As soon I get off the wall, 4 things usually occur to me. One, and most of the time, a shotgun rapes me and usually without fail. Two, a guy chainsaw me from out of the camera view or from around the corner. Three, the guy beat me to death...with a little pistol!?! And four, I somehow kill the guy. I prefer to snipe with the Longshot from time to time. I also pop a guy head off with L-trigger scoping one time and I was game point (not match point though, since Friday, me and my friend lost a couple of game since I wasn't very good at it)...
