This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Here's a new one from me (still re-thinking stuff with the other ones). i really like this scan and spent awhile looking for the right stock photo for the bg. i'm fairly happy with it but suggestions for making it better are welcome. my real problem is blending the scan more, so any hints/techniques would sure be helpful :)

It's pretty good as is, I like the background especially, real neat, how did you get the stock to look like that?
If you're bothered about how the scan and the background fit together, it could be because the background consists of small bits of flat colors, whereas the scan has smooth, blended shading. Or perhaps because of the outlines in the scan. But I don't think there's really any issue with it.

You might want to crank up the amount of red in the trees a bit. It should give a richer, more vibrant autumn look, and match the sweater a bit closer.

It's a very nice piece, a bit out of season though. =Þ Good luck luck with it!

Bit of a stylistic mismatch between the bg and the chara, which is making her seem a little dissociated. Bascially the bg has no outlines, but she does. I would therefore think about stylising her such that she has no outlines either, or at least that she was made up of solid "blocky" vector shapes, rather than smooth shading as she is now.

Might also help if there were more leaves kicking around in the bg. At the mo you sort of have quite clear paths, then on top of it all is a girl and some leaves (the colours need to match those of the trees in the bg more, btw) in a flat plane. So you need to give more depth to the leaves, I would say.

Hope that makes sense.

Thx for the suggestions guys. i used the filter cutout on the stock photo, not sure of the settings, i played around with them until i liked how it looked. i decided to try the same thing on the scan. i think it kinda looks neat :) redid the leaves. not really sure how to make them look more flat tris. i played around with the blending options and tried the same filter on them but nothing seemed to really do anything.

well, here's the update:

i also tried making little wind "lines" but that didn't turn out that great...

Well everything matches, shadows match, colors, scan and the background, even text and leaves. I think you did an outstanding job ^_^

It really is pretty awesome
except for you only have red leaves falling down,
maybe have just a mix in of them on the trees too?^^

just a few more in the distance on the right?

chibicrystal
not really sure how to make them look more flat tris. i played around with the blending options and tried the same filter on them but nothing seemed to really do anything.

I meant you should try to give them more depth - Ie that you should add tiny leaves on the paths under the trees and floating about in the distance. They're better now, but the leaves looked like they all the same size in a single flat plain in front of your bg. I mean, this is true, of course, because it's a 2D image, but if you're adding leaves you need to add them as if they were going back into the depths of the image, not just in a flat layer in the front. Hope that makes more sense :).

It got rejected :*( lol, jk. this is the version i submitted. i totally freaked out last night cuz i accidently saved over my file with all the layers. there was an older version before i had made alot of the changes. i tried to get it back to how it was, plus tried to vary the leaves even more. but alas, it wasn't good enough.

i'm sort of at a loss as to what to change to make it better. i suppose i could try a different bg all together but that seems alittle pointless. lol, i guess this will go with my collection of personal use walls. it sure is adding up... ;P

Am try to make your sig a litle bigger and clean up the scan, I think it looks a litle pisxled in some places as if it was resized. See if that will work 0.o

Lol, thanks stlonginus :)

now that i look at it again gat it looks pixelated all over. i have no idea where that came from cuz it wasn't there before. i'm thinking that maybe when i saved for web maybe it destroyed it alittle. i'll have to think up something so that doesn't happen. i guess i don't have to save at 70%, it's a pretty small file size. i might be able to get away with saving at 100% (or 90 at the very least).

lol, people keep telling me to make my sig bigger and i keep telling people to make their's smaller ;P

Very nice wall chibicrystal, this is very nice wall, but like trismugistus said, the main charakter are too flat. when i see the wally, i see a lovely bg, but with a flat image in front of it, the image in front make the bg lose its beauti...
i'm not sure if you have played with the bg, like trismugistus said you should do with the more depth thing, if you have tryed and it didn't give any result. you can play with the main charakter, you can change where he's standing, maybe you can place him in a place with much shadow... i think it'll give a effect that make the bg fit the charakter...
or you can make a wind effect that are agains the main chrackters scarf or whatsever it's, it'll make the bg smelt with the wind and the wind smelt with the scarf and the scarf will smelt with the main charakter... that may give the effect that make the main charakter fit with the bg :)
hope this help :)

Yeah, it is awesome and I have to say that it also discourages me that that did not get in…. I suppose the pixels may have indeed been its doing in…but it is amazing and I saved it because it was amazing… and I also make my sig small so rock on! ^_^ and good luck with the saving better thing.
