Chairman Gil Dullindal: Thoughts and Opinions
I got this idea from the one and only Dullindal wallpaper out there: Chairman Gil By Prasetu. ^^;
I think he's a overlooked character sometimes in Gundam Seed Destiny, so I was wondering what everybody's thoughts on him were. I would hope that people that are just going to post "I HATE HIM" would refrain, please share your reason. (hopefully it's more than, "cause he sucks", lol)
Personally I really appreciate his character. I'd have to say he's one of the more well written antagonists that I've seen in all the anime series that I've watched. In fact, in the first part of the series, it's hard to even tell if he's really a villan! XD His character is calm, reserved, sophisticated, and everything that you wouldn't expect from a villan. Neither is he a warmonger. And he can talk practically anybody into doing anything. lol Those kind of skills are worth respecting.
Spoilers ahead:
Later in the series, Destiny plan finally gets revealed and we find out that he's a villan. I do indeed think he had the right idea, misguided perhaps, but he desired peace more than anything else. Even if it resorted to manipulating people genetically. It's true though, there wouldn't be any war. ._.; He had a good idea at least, that didn't destroy everybody in the world. lol Yeah, I know he was gonna kill Lacus and destroy Orb, I don't think he personally had anything against them, they were just preventing him from completing his plan.
All in all, I think his character and personality were wonderfully executed. I was planning on making a page for overlooked characters someday, and Dullindal would definately be one of them. To the best Gundam Seed villan evar! XD
Now it's your turn. ;)

I knew dullindal would be the main villain in the end. Its just that the series was set up so that he seemed like the "good" guy who wishes for peace for ZAFT and Earth. In the end, he just wanted his own ambitions to be reality *gotta watch the series to find out what he wanted* He's just like Athrun's father in SEED imo. Dullindal was more like a laidback character, not crazed and sadistic like that Blue Cosmos leader *he was a lil crazy.*
I never quite trusted him from the very beginning. He looked quite evil with that one look and his kinda evil looking smile. I do think that he is very persuasive, though, so that makes him a really good politician. I really don't like how he simply uses everybody around him, though. His past with Talia and Rey is kinda interesting, and I wish that there had been more focus on that in the seires.
He does what he thinks is right. Like Klueze did what he thought was right.
They aim for the same thing, but with different approaches. War VS sweet talk.
I dislike Dullindal for how he manipulates Cagalli, Athrun, Meer, Shinn, Rei etc etc. Since all he intends to do is make them like one big human. No own emotions, feelings, thoughts. And that way of living sucks.
That would be the same as being a living dead.
But for doing what he thinks is right I feel that more people should do that. But his manipulations with words that bring forth so much sorrow and dispair is really bad.

He's the worst character ever, he has a glare to him that gives me the creeps down my spine.
Wow, I got responces! XD Lol, I guess he did really present himself as an antagonist at the beginning; when he harassed Athrun about his identity.
Glare? ^^; awww, lol. I was still holding out that he'd end up as a good person. T_T Azreal gives me the creeps, so does Djibril(sp).
@ Basara: I think his intentions were to genetically give people their "roles" in life to excersise their talents to the fullest. Then they wouldn't have to try to find it on their own (resulting in ambition, jealousy, etc.). I'm not too sure if people would have no emotions as a result - my interpretation was always ambition, jealousy and feelings that caused war would be eliminated.
@diannahu: I agree! I wish there was more character development that way. I wanted to know more about how PLANT regulates marriage and why that would increase the chance of conception. I'm not sure if the authors were trying to suggest that the reason he really came up with this plan was a combination between his rejection from Talia and his interactions with Klueze. Maybe if they were still together Talia could have prevented it. T_T

At first i thought that he was a non impoartant odd character. Then later on i thought that he was evil, or something like that. I didn't like him, didn't do that much.
I think Dullindal has the same goal in mind as the last boss from Grandia Xtreme. To exterminate wars all people will be the same inside. The outside will be their own, but their mind will have basically nothing in it.
That´s how I understood Duliindal´s Destiny Plan, to change the people into as said before basically zombies so no wars would erupt. They would still be able to live on and do their chores etc etc but with no emotion. And he would be the God of that land.
He would end all wars yes. But since even if they are genetically changed so they get their "roles" in live, still feelings as jealousy, ambition and alot more feelings would erupt and be the cause of yet another war, the only 100% safeproof way to end all wars or disputes is by taking away our emotions.
But as the hero of Grandia Xtreme says: Our feelings are what makes us human!! and I agree. Without emotions/feelings then we are no longer humans. It is a pity that mankind(even in anime) is so obsessed with being "better" than everyone else and jealous of those above you.
Everyone knows why Azrael hates coordinators right?

Actually, he hates coordinator because his parents did not make him one.
I really hate Dullindal because he is evil... that's all...

I never really trusted Dullindal in the first place. He just seems to good to be a good guy. He doesn't even show any character flaws. In a way, Crueset and are simlar in goal. Both of them gave up on humanity. They also wished to solve humanity's problem. The only difference is their method. While Crueset sought to end humanity's problem by destroying it, Dullindal sought to end the problem by unifying humanity under one consciousness.
