PS3 Price drop (most likely)
I am not 100% sure but i believe the PS3 will finally get the price drop many have longed for. It will be from $599 to $499 a whooping $100. I think i will be announced in E3 and Circuit City has also released an Ad saying it is $499 effective in august though. If i am wrong please don't bash me.. well ok you can bash me but i have told you i am not sure.
Wel what i actually heard was that the a ps3 with a lower hard drive capacity would be available for the price of 499.. but heck i wish i had an x360 to play halo2 & 3 and also gears of war and ... oh i have such a huge backlog of games to be played!...aaaaaahhhh

Well the rumor that I heard was that the PS3 will have a price drop to $499, but they were going to remove the chip that makes it read/playable on PS1 and PS2 games. So, in other words, was it lowers the price down to $499 and buy it you won't be able to play the older games from PS2 and PS1. I wish they don't that because I have a lot of my old games. I just hope they drop the price without doing anything to the consol.

The 60GB will be $100 cheaper because they are releasing the 80GB version in North America.

Yup YUp. IT's been confirmed by a bunch of major retailers already. That's bad for me i bought mine like 2 weeks or so before i knew lol. oh well
Yeah, Sony is doing this because they need to make some headway against the 360 and the Wii. They're hoping to really move some consoles come this holiday season.
They're also offering 5 free blu-ray movies from July 1st to September 30th with a purchase of a blu-ray player, which is exactly what the PS3 is. A pretty nice deal for those looking to purchase a PS3.

I'm surprised that Sony decided to drop the price during the summer instead of waiting until Christmas time. This price drop will probably boost sales, but I wonder when Microsoft will drop the price of the 360. Sony dropped the price of the PS3 9 months since its release. Microsoft hasn't even dropped the price of the 360 and its been out twice as long. I have a feeling that Microsoft will announce a price drop at E3 to counter Sony.

The PS3 does not have a modchip to play your "imports". It'll be more difficult to mod as there are constantly firmware updates to add features and rid the PS3 of security vulnerabilities. I'm sure it's not impossible, but as far as I know there are none yet.
Although, this shouldn't be an issue for PS3 imports. Sony has stated that PS3 games are not region coded meaning they can be played on any PS3 from any region. This does not apply to PS2 and PS1 games though. They still can only be played on a PS3 from the same region as the game.
