A suggestion
1 Page: [ 1 ]
I got an idea for AP. I'm a waller here, I put my works here for some reasons.
First I want to know how did it looked like in people's eye, what's good and what's bad about it so that I can improve myself. Then I want to know how it rated. Now here comes the suggestion.
Other than those two I want to know how people would rate my wallpaper.
So, the suggestion is: how about making a public rating. Put it in a different place from the moderator's rating, and there's no need to comment to rate. I think there's no need to give papers for this. Every people can only rate one time, the creator and collaborator can't rate their wall. Also show the number of people who rated the wall.
That's a long detailed sugestion haha. I believe this sugestion also have it's bad side but I also believed everything in this world HAVE positive and negative effects. For example: maybe there are people that loved only the character and would give a good rate for every wall that had him/her, or more subjective matters like friends, families, or even enemies.
That's all for my suggestion please think about it.

Interesting suggestion, although it does sound like it might be open to abuse quite easily - those with lots of people on their friends list would just end with lots of 5/5's, I imagine.... not that any system isn't open to abuse, of course, it's just that ratings without comments does seem to tempt fate a bit.
Btw, just thought I'd point out:
The mods don't rate the wall.
The rating you see is automaitically calculated by the system, and the only person who knows how it works is Bantam (again, in order to avoid abuse), though I would imagine things like comment/fave ratio and number of downloads are involved, but I also believe whether or not the person is on a friends list is also factored in to some degree (though, as I say, I don't actually have a clue :)).
Just thought I'd clarify things :)

Well, you do have a point there, but like ^trismugistus the wall is rated on the factor of how much people like your work, and secondly if you want to improve your skills, listen to what other members have to say, i now not all comments are helpfull, but there are people who would point out your mistakes.
Hmm nice idea but yeah soudns like corruption possible, besides that now you have got like a 2-option rating system: no comment = no voting, comment = 0 points, comment +fav = 1 point.
the more favs the better the wall, its a way to see how good it is.

I have a suggestion.
Why Animepaper doesn't create a competition or something like that, A challenge for example "You have a month to create an original art, the best work will be awarded".

It maybe a nice suggesstion, but not evreyone have time to participate in the competetion in the first place, secondly what do you mean by awarded, this site is already doin alot of work,
plus we have groups for wallpaper compettetion and prizes.

Lol so true, take a look in the groups pages for challenges. i mean some i know of

Right... there are only 7 walls with that rating. Out of, like >7800 walls. That's less than one out of 1000.
Of course, one of them belongs to you, so... XÞ (jk)
Hmm, but i've always wondered if certain number of comments achieve a specific rating. like for example, i have a wallpaper which has around 2-3 comments and got a D+, while I have another one with 21 comments so far and also a D+
I wonder though as to how its rated. Is it just by the number of comments, or is there an aesthetic value rating to it too? :3
anyway, replying to the post,...
and like the rest, it is a very interesting idea to have people rate the wallpaper. although the question to consider is if everyone would be serious about their ratings and if they would even rate at all.

the no of comments on the wall and the no of favourites on the wall decide what the ranking the walls should get, plus how many times it was downloaded, becuase not everday you see a wall that miht be downloaded say 1000 times by different user's, moreover if there is a wall having 15 favourites out of 20 it is a good chance that it might get a 'RESPECTABLE B', and if there's a wall having 8 out of 20 comments it might get a 'C' or 'D+'.
well it depends on how much your work is loved by the people, that is all i can tell, cause the rating is done by the system so i can't really say much.
hitome-sakurathe no of comments on the wall and the no of favourites on the wall decide what the ranking the walls should get
i see, so its not only the comments that count, but also the favorites and the downloads.
wow. cool system. xD
Hi, sorry for not replying for some time.
Don't worry about that, I've always come to view my gallery to read any new comments about my work.
So, it's actually the system that rate the walls, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Well as I said before: "more subjective matters like friends, families, or even enemies."
Let's make this cleaner.
I'll take trismugistus's idea of (5/5) rating
how about making it like a poll.
so there will be a statistic that shows:
how many people voted 5
how many people voted 4
how many people voted 3
how many people voted 2
how many people voted 1
It's clearly have a different function from the system rate.
And now back to the corruption matter:
Yeah, there're people who think that rating is everything and would do anything to get 5/5. And if they get em, I think they're satisfied. But that got absolutely no positive use for them.
But, I actually think of this, while thinking about my satisfaction as an artist.
It's just some kind of experimentation, I wan't to know how much do people liked this kind of wallpaper.

You wish. It's not that easy of a system to 'predict'.
Anyway, you guys can keep guessing and assuming whatever you want, but it'll never be close to how the system works since Bantam is the only person who does know what kind of formula gives a certain rating or whatever. In any case:
- It's useless for you to keep guessing how it works, you won't be able to exploit the system to boost up your popularity/internet ego/whatsoever anyway.
- Just focus on what you do, the rating has a very relative relevance, it's just an indicator of how much the wallpaper is 'popular' and that's it.
Some people take those ratings too seriously here, really.
