Best Media Player for Widescreen Monitor
1 Page: [ 1 ]
The problem is that most of the media players have with wide screen monitor is that they don't fit to its resolution, so when you put the media player on full screen you can seed two columns on both side of the screen.
PLayers for WS monitors:
One of them is the gomplayer and it takes to many memory from the cpu and some times it looks like the video freeze for a little moment, so i don't like it.
Bsplayer, in this one you have to change the resolution directly and it doesn't support Aero so due to im running vista i don't like this option either.
can anybody recommend some good players??

I\'ve never had any problems with watching movies on my 16:10 ratio screen. Though obviously there are either black bars or the video gets stretched with both 16:9 and 4:3 sources.
I use VLC or iTunes/Quicktime Pro/FrontRow (with converted files) mostly.
As for using too much resources, I\'m watching a video on VLC at the moment. It\'s using around 10 percent of one core (2.5 percent total CPU) and 50MB RAM + 450MB Virtual Memory (fairly normal).
That said, when I used Vista it hit 100 percent total CPU usage and the video stuttered a lot with Windows Media Player, VLC and Quicktime/iTunes. Not sure what was wrong with it, probably some driver problem/incompatibility.

I use CCCP (combined community codec pack). It comes with Media player classic which handles pretty much anything. If that doesn't work, VLC is one of the best universal media players out there.
Oh, not sure of vista aero compatibility though... good luck!

Media player Classic is your best bet. It not only lets you select between 4:3, 16:9, and 5:4 (PAL) resolutions, but you can actually manually crop the picture using your number pad. The downside is that MPC needs codecs installed to play movies. VLC in comparison, as far as I know, will only do preset resolutions. However, the benefit with VLC is that you don't need codecs for it to play files.
The problem isn't with the media player. Any media player can display any resolution. The problem is the video file itself. If it's a widescreen resolution, it will fill up the whole screen. If it isn't a widescreen resolution, then you'll see the black bars. The reason you see the black bars is because the image would look crappy if it stretches it out to fill the whole screen.

This is absolutely correct. Even DVD playback software is the same, because not everyone is using the same widescreen resolution out there.
There are two kinds of basic widescreen video formats: The ones encoded from 16:9 to 4:3 or the ones encoded directly to a widescreen format. Now, video players treat both files differently: the ones encoded from 16:9 to 4:3 will be treated as a normal video output, ie black bars are already in the video to auto-compensate for any player resizing or moving, while the ones directly encoded to a widescreen format will be controlled by the video player, as it is then the video player that decides how much of a black bar it will put on a widescreen monitor.
Believe me, it took me a widescreen laptop to fully appreciate HD encoding. Also, if your not into BSplayer's latest adware campaign there's always the good, but shareware'd Zoomplayer.
I agree to the last two posts.
for a good player that gives you several choices of how to display your video, try GOM Player.

I'm personally a fan of ZoomPlayer, but a fail safe would be VLC / GOM. So much utility and just about everything you could want from a media player.
Yes to add weight to the Combined Community Codec Pack suggestion. It comes with Media Player Classic and everything else you need to watch to widescreen and more. ^_^
Media Player Classic has some zoom features to help with movie files that don't have the correct aspect ratio. It's kinda a pain to use though. So if you can figure it out, there you go.

I've been using Media Player Classic (comes bundled with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack), VideoLAN Client (VLC), and MPlayer. This media player triad have never made me disappointed. They can also play HD encoded videos and display the widescreen format very well IMHO.
For me the best Media-Player is Gom-Player. It supports most popular codecs (AVI, DAT, MPEG, DivX plus many more)
and no problems with widescreen :)

I use MPC myself and I can fill the screen however I want it
my monitor has a ratio of 5:4 instead of 4:3 so when watching 4:3 material I change my MPC 'Video Frame' setting to 'touch window from outside" this way I don't get any black bars appearing and the I can keep the aspect ration too
..although I do miss out a bit of the picture from the left and right edges..

You can try the latest version of GOM Player, i think it is the best one.Or try powerDvd though it is not free. There is also KMPlayer which is really good, give it a try...
