Vote here for VectaDesu Contest #1
So it's finally time to close the VectaDesu contest as start to vote your favorites! A very nice number of entries where submitted, from very less know categories and with a great variation of different styles and genres. First of all: GREAT WORK EVERYONE!
Really... in terms of a normal vector every vector here wins. However... I've chosen #9 and #11 as the vectors I'd like to vote for.
Reason: the hair of the girl in #9 is simply splending! Amazing gardients create the illusion of #9 being a scan rather than a vector (of course there are parts where one can see that it's a vector after all). The author did an amazing job on post processing the vector.
#11 is simply unusual in my opinion. It has an interesting, almost drawing/painting style and thus is one of my favorite.
The other works are nice too, but I had to decide soo... :).
I'd need to get those onto my hdd ^_^;; but I won't be using them in a wall anyway, because I think I became rather a collector over the years.
dS.
EDIT: added #4 to my fav list.. so it's now #9 (my most favorite), #11 and #4.

11, 5 and 3. Thou I wish there were more clothes on 5 I like the technique.
My votes go to:
8
11
12
I'd like to say that I'm impressed by the overall quality of the submitted vectors. Everyone did a really good job!
The reason why I voted for these 3 is mainly because I have some personal opinions about certain aspects of vectoring. I always reject the use of Photoshop (because it's not a vectoring program), the use of solid stroked lines (because it looks too generic) and the use of thick black outlines (because it looks like a child's coloring book). Just a personal thing, no offence.
With that said, I narrowed the list down to 8,9,11 and 12 for my votes. Mouton is the unlucky 4th choice, only because I don't dig the style (has nothing to do with quality). So please vote for him if you can't think of a 3rd vote ;)
My votes are 8, 10 and 11
the entries are all well done and i can see you all worked hard >D
and it was pretty hard choosing 3 to vote for.
the reason i chose these 3 entries was mostly because of the details in them
8 is a simple looking vector, but there are lots and lots of layers of shades
10 is pretty basic vectoring but those patterns on the cloth, wow, i usually just skip them
and 11, i dont quite like the overall dirt look to it but. wow that's lots of colors \o/ and there's this cool painted feeling to it

Guess i'll go with 4 and 10
I vote for 1, 3, and 8 those really sick out, and call me to more then others >< don't get me wrong... all of them are great, but I just LOVE those three more so then the other
I vote for 4 and 11. The eyes of the 4th entry are really nice and coming from a monochrome scan, it's really a feat. The 11th entry is beautiful. I am kind of biased on this one since it's the kind vectoring style that I like. I didn't give a third choice because it's very hard to choose ^^"
My vote for moutonzare and 2 , 4!^_<-b
nice work everyone!
nice work everyone!
My favs are 9, 11, 12. (4 is very nice too)
I love the styles in 9 and 11, because they're unique from the others, use many shades and colors, and look realistic, pushing the "usual" expectations about what vectors look like. Personally I'm not fond of vectors that have minimal shades and details, because almost everyone can do that style. So I appreciate the creativity and intricate style of these vectors. For the previous comment about rejecting using photoshop because it's not a vectoring program, that is not true; photoshop can vector just fine, as long as you don't rasterize those layers (to become vexels). They can be resized and manipulated to your heart's content just like in illustrator otherwise. (see my vector tut for more details) So there's no reason to dislike photoshop because "it's not supposed to be a vectoring program", because it can do the best from both programs (and there's no exporting involved! all the color and finishing adjustments are already there in ps to use over the vector).
I also chose 12 because up close I love the subtle details in the hair, face, and shades. I would say it's very delicate and clean. ^__^ I only wish there was more contrast and darker shades.
In 4 I appreciate the use of those gradients and the bright shine on her hair. To me, highlights and colors like that are important.
If I were to give constructive criticism to the others, it would be to number 8. I would say don't be afraid to use darker shades and lighting techniques to give more depth.
Good work everyone. :)
