This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

What manga do you think has the best art? This means best drawn and unique clothes, most detailed settings and backgrounds, and an distinct drawing style.

I personaly choose Blame! because, quoting Tokyopop, "This is an artist's book, a wasteland of tortured rock and steel ... rendered in ruinous beauty "Blame has very striking compositions, in which the main character is a tiny speck in a vast metal labaryinth. The character concepts and designs of some of the cyborgs are also equally striking.

Definitely anything by CLAMp, although I would say X/1999, the art is fantastic, all the detail and creativity. The characters are drawn so beautifully. In fact, Magic Knight Rayearth also has some very nice art, expecially the fight scenes. it is so detailed, i don't even care if the storyline is weak. i read it mainly for the artwork. i feel inspired to draw everytime after reading it. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is also very goo, so realistic. hayao Miyazaki is another manga-ka I admire. The backgrounds are all drawn by hand in great detail and precision, it's almost real. besides that, he doesnt use much screentones, most of it by pen. it must have taken ages to draw. i is one manga i have never regretted reading. Other than that, the most unique art would be Saiyuki, I have never seen character potrayal such by Minekura Kazuya, its one of the reasons i'm reading her work more now. even though she uses a lot of screentones, her art is truly unique.

Clover by Clamp. Yeah it's pretty generic? stereotypical? answer but hear me out. Clover is probably one of their most beautiful works because 1) character designs and clothes. The Clover storyline is set in the near future and to reflect that, Clamp designed futuristic clothes and miscellany to fit in the theme i.e robotic birds, monotone clothes accented with screws, winged motorbikes, intricate wire cages.. it's eyecandy and a good one too.
2) the arrangement of the panels. The panels within the manga are arranged very artistically and they transcend the usual box grids we usually see... my impression from the panelling used is they appear to look like director shots/screens of a movie in progress. Great art direction here.
3) the usage of negative spaces. Not very common to see in manga... but Clamp managed to master them with style.
4) art. A different style was used for Clover where fine lines were used to ink. It gives out a light feathery 'texture'. Very different from what you've seen in other Clamp mangas.
5) story. So far in my opinion, the only Clamp story that doesn't not suck. *glares at rg veda & chobits* Hard to find fault with this one as compared to their other works.

CLAMP is always a safe bet. I thought they did a lovely job with Cardcaptor Sakura--there were times when I just stare at the pretty.

I agree with Rubicon. Blame!'s awesome in everything.
Although most other manga with art so "fancy" it hurts are ones that have a plot that bores me. Kind of too bad.
After watching some Berserk scans, I have to say the mangaka gets better with time (at least in my opinion). his black and white pictures are cool and inspiring anyway.

Wow, doesn't anyone appreciate anything other than CLAMP? I mean, I like them too. However,

Real Bout High School. The artwork is beautiful, Facial expressions are so detailed that you don't need words, Motion is expressed better than most Anime's I've see, the motion blur effect usedwas breathtaking. To top it off (Denevan) the story was well developed, which only seemed to add to the superior quality of the art.

Reinselft you took the words right outta my mouth lol, Clamp would have to be my choice as well with Clover and Xxxholic leading the charge. Another title which as far as outfits/costumes go isn't very orginal, it is of course supposed to fit into the time period, but the art does have it's very unique style, is Blade of the Immortal by Hiroaki Samura. For those who have read it ya know what i'm talking about. The lines keep everything in a constant movement, it always feels like something is happening in every panel, even if it's something as simple as the leaves rustling, a great work of art.
Blame has it's own style also of course, but never completly appealed to me much, but I see where you're coming from for sure rubicon ^_^

One Piece, it's so cool and it reminds me a bit of old cartoons (plus a lot of hot guys XD)

Teizokurei Daydream: wearing that S&M clothes should be illegal (i would kill to look like her in them).

Great Teacher Onizuka: you will never see so detailed backgrounds and facial expressions, this is a must.

I''S: Katsura-sensei style is so realistic, he draws every little thing in detail, plus his storytelling is superb.

Bleach, Zombie Powder: I. LOVE. HIS. STYLE!!

Really, everybody likes Clamp ^^U I do too, but i'm more into shounen styles like Bleach
