loveless
Ritsuka is only 12 and soubi is a university student.
that's a pretty wide gap, don't you think?
maybe it would have been different if ritsuka was 18 and soubi was 26. at least then ritsuka would be older and more matured and less likely to be forced into something he isn't old enough to deal with yet.
soubi's love is not really that of brotherly affection and concern as we all know, especially with the times when ritsuka asks if soubi would make his ears fall off -.-"
so what do you think?
is ritsuka too young for this relationship with soubi?

I think he is really young... but maybe the words "the age dont matter" is true.
but... it is a funny-drama story, you never know what come next.
maybe they dont do anything until ritsuka be "young less" or maybe they break off... something like that ^^U

Well, age-wise he would be considered too young, but then again... Ritsuka doesn't really act his age so I guess their relationship would work. Hmm... do their ears fall off or shrink back into their heads? XD

When reading Loveless, I don't think of the age gap. It's not much of a big deal for me and I'm sure it's not for Ritsuka and Soubi either when they have other more important things to worry about. I wouldn't consider the love between them to be "physical", if you know what I mean. Soubi knows that Ritsuka is too young and Ritsuka knows that himself. In Volume 1, Ritsuka did mention how it is too early for him and how his mom would freak out if his ears fell off at his age. I think the love between them is rather innocent, subtle, and gradually growing as the manga progresses. Ritsuka is mentally mature for his age and he doesn't act like a twelve-year-old kid so I don't think Ritsuka is too young, but that's just me. Yes, Soubi's thoughts might not be all innocent but he's a healthy man so it can't be helped. What matters most is that Soubi understands and doesn't force Ritsuka to do anything. I rather think the love between them is cute. I don't think Ritsuka is too young for the relationship.
Haha well they are so very cute :)
well age wise he does seem very young, though it is true too he's very matured for his age.
do you think it's right to have such a relationship?
it seems morally wrong somehow... maybe it's just me being conservative though.
but i enjoy the manga immensely. i can't find scantilations of volume 6..
sorry for all the questions...i just wanted to know what you guys thought about the whole matter.

I think its really, a problem of corruption of minors U.U
XDDDD
i think he IS too young, and because of that the anime/manga is more interesting.. cause is trhough soubi that ritsuka will discover the non-cat-ears-peoples things 8D and love doenst chose age or sex ^^

you're very right pink-san!! I was introduced to shounen-ai by this, and precisely because Soubi and Ritsuka is just...so cute together. Their love does grow...or I wouldn't call it "love", more like "affection" that cannot be replaced by another. Can they develop a bond so strong that will overcome the fact that their "names" are different, and when Soubi still belongs to Seimei even if he's dead? I think the manga is trying to say "yes" ^_^ I'm longing to see how their relationship is going to change them both...
jtohly : if you want the scanlations to all the manga of LOVELESS, go to the Yaoi World group, I posted a thread with all the volumes plus some translations in the archive ^_^
Hey thanks shirahime :)
Well, I love Loveless, but I'm very uncomfortable with Rit being 12. I've studied some pychology and I've experience some trauma in my own life. It is my understanding the human mind does not reach a stable adult level until a person is through their teens. All of the biological changes actually throw the mind off balance for some time. What really gets me in this particular case though is the fact that Rit is obviously traumatized. Considering his mother's behavior and his brother's means of death, he has a great deal of emotional instability to try and navigate. The only reason I forgive Soubi's behavior is that there is no other way. He couldn't just leave Rit to deal with pairs on his own. He also actually appears to actually care for Rit. He is definitely abusing him, but he is not doing it out of spite. Rather he is doing it out of necessity. Or at least this is my opinion anyway.
I tend to see anime characters in the light of real life people; so, I don't enjoy suffering even when it is just fictional.

I think in real life a 12 year old going out with an college student is really unlikely and not a healthy realatonship. But Loveless is a fantasy, and I think its fine. In manga relatonships are almost always portatied diffrently than realatonships in the world.Soubi and Ritsuka's "love/hate" realatonship is very disfunctional and emotionaly draining on Ritsuka and could be considered harrasment in the real world. In manga its purely an interesting fantasy and I don't see anything wrong with it.
Yes but its Anime, and it makes a good story. There both really cute also... but that really has nothing to do with what you were saying...

I usually don't like the young boy going out with a older man who is way older than him but in this case it's just sooo cute! But in this manga I don't think the age gap really matters.
XD lol i don't think it really matters, cause lets say there wasn't an age gap of of Ritsuka, 12, to soubi who's in uni.. XD it won't be a interesting story then... cuz it'll be kinna "normal" in a way and >_> there won't be much of a atory to tell afterwards XD

I completely understand why you would feel this way, and in some ways I agree with you too...
although...from your response, it seems you haven't finished watching the anime and/or finished reading the manga? You shall see...Ritsuka is actually helped by this "intruding" Soubi...do you think without his determination in finding out the truth about his brother's death, he could have still lived "normally"? That was his only thing that makes him feel...that being alive is still worth while. But Soubi changed that--Ritsuka has discovered more meanings to life--or rather, he has re-discovered--when Soubi came along. I think for that alone Soubi is irreplacable to Ritsuka.
Actually, I don't really care how old Ritsuka is. I mean, he doesn't even look like an average 12 year old 6th grader. He's quite mature--in some sense--for his age as well. If he acted reeeally childish and "let's go outside!" you know what I mean--kind of personality, something's wrong!! But he doesn't act kiddish in that sense..u know?? And Ritsuka and Soubi just look cute together! :D
I know in the real world, LOVELESS would kinda be like one of them child-harrassment thingies, but it's NOT the real world so we can enjoy (ooh..that didn't sound good) it. I mean, in an anime/manga sense. And Ritsuka's young age, i think, shows the purity in him and everything too. And the whole thing w/ the ears is just so cute! XD I never had a grudge or a "eew!" against it. It's a story, right? Whatever the artist/author wanted, it's what she wanted and I don't mind at all. ^_^
