This is the first wall I made that I didn't think was lame, but it seems to be lacking somewhere. I originally made it about 5 years ago because at the time it was hard for me to find a "Battle of the Stars" wall. Now I would like some suggestions on how to make it look better.

I think it's just too plain. It need something to it, you know? Some words, a picture, and an explosion of blueness as a background is too.. well for lack of a better word, boring.

Is there anyway you could put a character or something like that instead of the main picture? It might spice it up a little bit. (Hahah, wow.. okay "spice"..)

Well if you were going for a simplistic look i don't see why you shouldn't keep things minimal. you could try making the symbol blend more with the background. and maybe make the "banner of the stars" title smaller to fit under the symbol. i really don't like that bright star thing in the background. it seems out of place.

Well I thought about what you both said and I choose to jazz it up a little. Took my a long time to figure out how to make the planet and stars, but I did it all. Here is the new link:

Ok i'll just comment on the new one. erm the characters are rather small for the wall & there isnt really a focal point in the wall cause the planet in the bottom right is just about as big as the symbol. hmm in my opinion, perhaps making something larger than the others would give the wall more focus. ok about the characters, err there is some noise here & there. got to clean that up or vector. ok that's all =)

Ok, here's my comment on the new one...
I like the stars and planet in the wallpaper, but i see too dark the couple in the right corner (and probably too small also, dont you have a bigger scan??). Now the text you used, doesnt seems to fit very well with the space theme, dont you think?? And maybe if you place the text a little up ( i mean, you have plenty of space in the center..)

Well, I would say that the background seems to me too realistic compared to the characters... (is it just me?)
The font you used isn't really fit to the wallpaper either...
The edges of your planet are sometimes too apparent (you can see some pronounced black line just before the glowing blue especially at the top).
The colors of the emblem at the top left are far from the general color theme of the wallpaper.
Characters too small too.

I thank everyone for their comments. I really liked the comment about the planet being too realistic, I was going for a realistic looking planet but I could see how it didn't fit. I do believe that it is helping. I think this is the best one yet. It has also reminded me of my original theme. I wanted to do something for the Basroil, which I felt like my second try was starting to leave. Also just to let everyone know I had been leaving the links to the old images just so people see how far this image has come.

Plus I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me what some of the options in the "save as JPEG" dialog in GIMP do? I an not sure what the Optimize, Smoothing, and Progressive options do and weather I should use them. And again thanks.
