This is my first wall! i've been looking through a few tutorials on the net and kinda worked through them and ended up with this wallpaper. my extraction is not quite good, but the hair was really hard to do and since it was on a night bg, the hair is a bit blue around the edges... does anyone know how i could fix that? ok.. then... here's the wall: 
The wall is quite good. if you're doing it on a night bg, perhaps you should some stars... but put them scarcely.
chi lacks details about her... you really have to look closely to make out the details... e.g. the hairband.
the title seem a lil bit out of place... consider a somewhere else maybe...
the texture you used does not fit in with the whole thing. yeah symmetrical texture is just not right, especially with your font.
at the upper right corner, the bg has some checkered box look... it doesn't look that nice.
make the light on the lamp post more bright... so that there's the feeling of 'illuminating light in a dark night'. (whatever am i talking? lol)
you have hidden chi's hair too much i think... hide the hair at the edge would be okay...

Hm... thanks for the ideas. yeah.. i definitely have room to improve. the reason i hid the hair so much was because the scan i used had this bend in the page ; click for scan
and since i don't know how to fix it up, so i hid it ^_^*. does anyone know a place where i can learn how to fix up cut off bits like those? and is there a specific program needed?

The wall is nice, it's just that chii stands out from the background too much... i dunno how to deal with that though... but overall, the wall in itself is nice :)

Try and re-cg the scan (just the parts needed) or use the clone stamp tool in photoshop. There also needs to be more light from the lamp and hence, around chii. try to blend from the light from the lamp to the dark. Try a moon and maybe some clouds and/or stars or something.
There is also a better version of this scan in AP's scan gallery. It's called night chii and it's on page 5 of the scans. Get it and that might help.

It's Nice For First Time Wallpaper, Good Job !
But The Background Quite Not Fit With The Picture, It's Too Dark And The Sides Is Too Blank.
You See Chii's Colors Is Some Kind Of Soft Blue, It's Nice If You Use That Kind Of Colors And I Agree With rebelshadowrm add some object to the wallpaper.
Keep Your Good Job, I'm Sure That You'll Be A Great Waller On AP

I think it is really good, like some have stated previously, maybe getting chii a bit more detailed or more appropriate color balance or something would top it off nicely.
Thanks to all of you for your comments. they are very helpful! i'm starting my second attempt now so please wait and see it! ^_^
just one problem, some of you say that chii stands out too much from the background and needs a more lighter blue and similar coloured bg. i can see there is a point but then i wouldn't be able to place a glow around chii from the lamp. so i thought that a darker bg would be more appropriate.
i'm thinking of changing the bg and make it more sky like but still a dark colour but not as dark as the original, and add a moon and stars. does that sound like a more reasonable contrast?
