This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

I just thought I'd start this topic out of mine own curiosity. There are things that are considered socially acceptable, attractive, stereotypical, etc. and things that... well, aren't. What kinds of things do you do that "aren't," but you're completely unabashed about doing them?
Here are some examples to start yours off of my own:

-I don't have a bikini body, but I'll be damned if I don't wear a string bikini in the summer time
-I can't sing for crap, but if I hear a good song come on, I'll belt it out at the top of my lungs.
-The only thing I've learned being a sophmore in Pre-Calculus((a senior class)) is that carrying my math book around keeps teachers away. Nobody suspects a smart girl. ^^"
-Just because I don't think I'm smart doesn't mean that I don't take full advantage of the fact that everybody else thinks I am.
- I still like Pokemon, Tigger and basically anything by Disney. Especially the Lion King. I <3 emoticon Rafiki!!

I don't use clothes ;)

Nah, seriously I don't know, don't really care either. I do what I do because that's who I am.

I don't drink alcohol I guess, my friends and other people I talk to about it thinks me boring and wierd, but honestly I don't see the point in drinking it.
It's a drug that has been accepted into society with time. Why should I drink alcohol because it tastes "good" when Sprite and Fanta tastes just as good or even better, except it ain't a drug?
It always baffles my comrades.

Winnie the Poh is awsome! Heck, now that I think about it I love old cartoons like Darkwing Duck, Turtles, Moomin , Asterix & Obelix and the like.
I even have DVD collections and stuff on my shelf.
If I ever get kids one day, I'm going to forcefully make them watch my favorite childhood cartoons *evil grin* ;)

I tend to say things that are totally politically incorrect and I don't care. It's one thing to say them online, but another thing entirely IRL ^^;

And let me tell you it's not just alcohol, but not specifically drinking beer can make you "weird". I'm okay with wine (good enough for the Italians, it's good enough for me), and I've known to get quite friendly with the vodka at some celebrations, but I don't like beer. If for some reason you like beer, fine; but it has pretty much no nutritional value, and makes you fat for that matter. If you want to get a buzz there are a lot more efficient ways of doing so (shot of vodka, then have a soda). But no I'm a big weirdo for doing so. And one time I'm like, "fine I'll have a beer" and then I get an "OOOH YOU'RE POURING THE BEER WRONG" from everyone on the table. What is this, high society with the freaking salad fork thing? You're drinking beer at a cheap pub from a pitcher.
(end rant =P )

Most people that look down on anime are a tad stupid. When they see anime they think "Cartoons!? That's kids stuff!?".
But the thing is that it's just animated. Take Hellsing for example, make that into a 'real' series with actors and stuff and it would hardly be considered "kids stuff".
Newsflash, both anime and 'real' stuff have kids stuff (Teletubbies etc) as well as things for the older audience.

jejejeje tell me of a perent that has watched Hellsing and tought that it was "apropiate" for his kids jejeje I dont think it exists, but the thing is that most people just talk without knowing what anime is al about, and in the parents case most parents sadly never realy know what their kids are watching, "teletubies" seriously if I was a kid and had to see that thing Id kill myself O_o

@ keiko-kun

I guess my personality and attitude. I get weird looks and "are you 4 real?!!"s all the time, both on boards and in real life. And I could care less.

@ End1182

Congrats on the very good choice. ^^
I drink bear too though. From experience all I can say is that bear is generally constant. And wine is either superior or total crap from what I drink.

When you get my age, you really, REALLY don't give a damn what is or is not socially acceptable. You spend too much time worry about bills, work, more bills, more work, and those blasted bills.

Some gems:
1) Like fluxbox, I am politically incorrect, especially IRL.
2) I look like a "jock" but I'm actually "geeked" beyond belief.
3) I work in a professional job yet have blue hair and piercings. Always fun at meetings with the "suits."
4) People think I party--I LOATHE the "party" mentality. I'd rather read or watch anime.
5) I'm amoral and a righteous flirt, which earns me the occasional punch from the wife ;)
6) I get the same grief about anime that Zodiac mentioned.

I dont like studying. Well I do not study sometimes. When I do study I draw my own anime characters in between the learning. lol I'm 21 so at my age I basically worry about a few things, like work etc. Tomorrow I start at a new job, so wish me luck. Well, I do study and I study through the post. It bloody difficult to have your own discipline. I drink Alcohol from time to time. When I'm in the shower I sing like the world doesn't exist and when I play music on my computer and I like to make it loud. I watch too much anime aswell. I dont know what to say further...

Hmm... I guess people just dislike people who went out from what they see
as the 'common' or 'proper' behaviour/attitudes. I really do not tolerate people
who looks down on Anime as cartoons/kid stuffs.

I personally, am not normal. I'm supposed to be Asian yet, I do not seem to
be nutured in Asia part of the world. I can say my body porpotion is similar to
the western world, and it often makes people alienate me... Heck, I believe it's
me, and if people don't accept me as I am, then it's their loss...

Another problem as most of you experienced, the love of Anime and Manga.
I believe that my interest in it won't fade forever though.

And yes, even at my age, I still like childish stuff, except Teletubbies or similar
TV shows. I think that's what is really 'stupid' for me. I guess the world is ruled
by this invisible line of what's common and what's not, it drives abnormal people
such as me crazy.

Then again, now that I think about it, it's really quite logical and understandable why people 'look down' on anime and manga and consider it kids stuff.
They watched cartoons and read comics when they were kids, eventually most people stopped watching/reading that kind of stuff.
So when they for example see something animated like anime, they unconsciously remember the time when they were kids and watched something very similar, cartoons. The rest, you can probably figure out for yourselves.

Anything different is always considered strange, but once we get exposed to it enough times it becomes normal. Pretty ironic really.

This is kind of like a double-edged sword, both a blessing and a curse if you will, since it helps us overcome a lot of things, but can also lead some people to do certain inappropriate kind of things... like making people actually like to eat their broccoli.

... I guess I went a bit off-topic there =)

I wouldnt go into much detail here, but when it comes to be socially acceptance. I just wouldnt really care much about people think. I don't believe theres anything wrong with hobbies, career, interest that many people out there like. It comes down to being satisfied about fully yourself.
*lot of people think i look smart.
*too thin
*fashion of datist ^^
*few to name

oh noes, how can you say that?
that is not social acceptance, that is how Godly your drinking session can be!
Do you realize the impact?
The fact that a flat beer is served to me wrong, or the fact that I pulled a wrong beer serving will spoil my day.
Being a Guiness Draft drinker, I demand that it be served correctly by the Bartender, Crema at least 2 inch, body dark and slow surfacing, thick foam with excellent length from the bottom to the above.

I demand it because I would not have done the same as I could not. If I didn't get it right, lol Customer Complaints sections I go!

You have no idea how many times i was close to getting my ass kicked for being different. One of the bigger events happened almost a month back where the decision to close the anime club at our school was final due to the lack of members, and they believed the money should have gone for better use rather then "buying silly comics and little cartoon shows", they just decided to shut us down because there weren't enough oddballs out there who wanted to join.

So one of the sophomores had an evil idea, since our school was accepting cds to play music during passing period, she suggested that we litter the school with the most cheesiest, corniest, and downright "gay" jpop songs that we could find, it was more for revenge than anything else. She supplied all the songs, all we needed where some extra people to deliver the songs to the student activities office, this was no easy task as the total anime club consisted of about 4 members...D=.
We just hired some extra friends to help out, and so, for about a week after having horribly corny engrish speaking jpop play on the speakers, information leaked out (thanks a lot fred you fucking bastard.) that it was us who put the songs on the air, that day after school, a bunch of black guys (sorry dont mean to be racist here) sorta pinned me and my friend behind a wall, demanding to "stop this gay little shit, or il make you eat your own dick" Now if it was just 2 or 3 guys it wouldn't be difficult but about 6 guys came, one of which kicked Ben in the nuts, (oh my buddy's name is Ben btw), so yeah, it was serious, we eventually stopped for our own good, but to be honest, i think it was totally worth it, to be able to see the look on their faces when their dumb little rap songs and emo songs aren't playing...too bad i was about to lose my neck because of it,
