Black and white at it's best with a dash of red to keep things interesting.

I was going for a simple look, messed around a bit and came up with this:

I still think it needs something though... any suggestions?

The characters seem 2-dimentional even with the shadow.. I dont know exactly how you would fix that though... I agree with claud that the background seems empty... I like the color scheme...

Sorry that my opinion is disjointed; I hope it is helpful to you. Good Luck!

As others have pointed out, right now the characters look like cardboard cutouts. What I suggest is that you create some variation in tone i.e shading. There is a good colouring tutorial linked to by nuniko in the tutorials thread above which I reproduce here http://www.pensnpixels.com/flatting.htm As for the background, I suggest maybe some scenery in the same sketch like style. Some houses and trees in the distance perhaps?

Text could need some work, shade and texture it a little more.

Yeah Faye's legs are gone. I'd say smooth out the text and personally I like simple walls and I dig it how it is. If you can make that one a version and a modded one I'd take'em both.

I like the cave copy one better than the red and blue. The red and blue (in my opinion) looks really bad. The colour is too um...how do you say this...saturated? =/ Anyways, Since the characters have stripes/lines all moving in the same direction (/) you could try for a soft background to keep the ///// (lines) going. Personally, I like the font in your first version the best, its clean and it fits the background and renders. Also, if there are shadows, maybe you can do a gradient somewhere? Anyways, it looks cool.

I really like the cave one. One because I think the image is really orignal looking with the brownish color.

I much prefer the cave painting one. The red and blue stripes hurt my eyes XD I suggest you do some weathering effects on the line art in the cave painting if you want it to look like it is drawn on a wall. Perhaps lighten it, and add variation in colour and roughen some edges?

Cave painting is good, but I'm not sure it fits the anime so well. An aged photo or 'heavy engraved in metal' sort of look would suit it much better as far as texturing goes.

The blue and red you can just ditch. Too vivid and bright, can't really see anything else but blue and red. I agree with acidflower on getting back to the previous font and a gradient to reflect the shadow in the background for the cave one though. One thing you can also try is just picking a monochromatic color scheme and fill in parts of the image that way. It'll keep the simplistic look but add a little variation. I say that because you have quite a few characters in there and it'd help distinguishing between them much better than the line art ( lol at first I didn't see that one of Faye's legs were tucked behind the other and thought she was just mismatched). Very nice so far though, keep it up!
