Characters:
Being a Production I.G. project, the characters designs has that touch of style that we are so familiar with in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Blood: The Last Vampire. I do particularly like Sayas hairstyle. It gives her that tomboyish look that would perfectly match her when shes in her alternate personality. One notable difference would be her attitude as compared to the Blood movie. Shes less cranky in the series and has a more innocent look (much better looking too). Her sword too looks different from the one used in the movie. Designs for Chiropterans are awesome. Outward-protruding fangs do give them a more bat-like look and increases their scariness factor.
Story:
The story starts out with Saya being an ordinary high school girl. However, strange events were already unfolding around her until one fateful encounter that would make her peaceful life a past memory. Story-wise, the plot moves at a slow but steady pace with most characters getting some decent airtime. Initially, nothing much is known about Sayas past but as the story progresses, bits and pieces of information are revealed.
Little is revealed about the reason for the Chiropterans existence. We do know a bit about how they become one and whos currently responsible for it but its origins still remains a mystery.
Currently the story is focusing on Saya as she discovers more about her true self as well as dealing with her opponents, both human and non-human. At the same time, motives of other parties are being revealed at a steady pace.
Animation:
Animation is sharp and crisp, something to be expected from Production I.G. Daytime colors are vibrant and rich while in the night, scenes are more de-saturated and have a healthy dose of black instead of the more often-used dark blue hue.
Music:
The OP, Aozora no Namida (靿空の㿿㿿㿿) sung by Hitomi Takahashi has a rockish feel to it and in my opinion, rocks! Its slightly fast-paced and complements the frenetic movement of the OP video nicely. A really great way to introduce everyone to the world of Blood+. The ED song, Gatari tsuzugu koto (調㿿綿ぐみと) by Chitose Hajime is more slow and has that slight wailing (dont have a better term to use) touch to it. ED video shows the characters in a slightly different animated style and is a nice change of view after sitting through the episode. Ill definitely be on the lookout for the OP and ED mp3s once its released.
Verdict:
Ill hold of on the verdict first since I will need to watch maybe a few more episodes since I am speculating that the producers have decided to start the story on a slow pace. But anyway, at 52 episodes (according to ANN), I trust Production I.G. to spend more time on developing both the characters and story plot just like what they did with GitS: SAC. There goes more of my precious HD space.

I just watch Blood+ 2 days ago~
Itz awesome!!!
I love it a lot! Since I love blood and action more then love story or school life type of anime
The characters are not bad~ Saya looks better in Blood+ then in Blood, The Last Vimpire
(btw, I love Blood, The Last Vimpire as well, since itz one of a few animes that with understandable english without subtitles)
I dont really like the design of the chiropterans(monsters), they give me a feel of the old style shonen type monster... um... like the ones in the late 1980s and early 1990s anime
The pace of the story in episode 1 is a bit too slow in my opinion.
I love the OP a lot~ I like Takahashi Hitomi's voice, it matches well with the video. The OP video is also pretty good~~~ The lyric of aozora no namida matches well with the anime also.
The ED is good as well, but I like the OP more~~

Okay...I know Blood+ is related to Blood: The Last Vampire but I heard from some that it is actually a prequel to Blood.
Can anyone verify if Blood+ is a sequel or prequel?

I would assume it's a prequel though the story line doesn't say for a fact one way or the other. Either way I'm way into Blood+ now! I loved Blood the last Vampire and have been a fan for years. And now that I get a tv series I'm in heaven. can't wait to see ep two!
FYI, I believe Anime-Kraze will also be working on Blood +, but I think they are a little behind on their projects. I know they have released subs of the previews for it... *shrugs*
/shameless plug/ They're recruiting QCers right now if anyone is interested... but only a couple days left if you want to try!! #ak-recruits @irc.rizon.net /shameless plug/ ^_^;

I loved the first episode when I first watched it! This and Jigoku Shoujo are my favorite two new anime (that I've seen so far, anyways). Definitely looking forward to this every week!
I've watched "Blood the Last Vampire" and I didn't really like it. However I Just watched Blood+ yesterday and I gotta say it's awesome ^_^

So far so good.
But 52 episodes might be too much for me because I'm afraid that it will get boring.
Well, at least Saya's lip is smaller than in the movie. ^^
