Swords or Guns?
I had a discussion with a friend a few days ago about which is better/cooler:
a sword or a gun.
Seeing as how I am a kendo practitioner, I naturally liked swords over guns(because of the history and art behind them). However, he believed swords are useless and that guns are overall superior. Just out of curiosity, I would like to know what all of you prefer, swords or guns(swords as in any form of blades such as daggers, knives etc. and guns refers to any kind of firearm).
a sword or a gun.

I'd say guns. In this day and age war is fought with guns. Unless your talking about Palestine during the second phase of Intifadhah in which case a knife is better than nothing at all.
The saying is, "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight." for a reason. They're not comparable.

I would rather have a gunblade you have the best of both worlds i think right there in a gunblade either way thats my choice. but certain circum stances a blade is better then a gun and others a gun is better then a blade it just depends on the situation i think.
As much as I like swords and blades for their beauty and skill required to use them, in today's world I'd prefer a gun by far. Guns are simply superior to swords when it comes to power, quickness and effectiveness.
In a close-counters fight, the outcome might be interesting, but if any range is involved I would expect the gun to have an extreme advantage.
If you are skillful enough to do the sword, the sword will be better. But if you're enemy has a Gatling gun, then it's obvious the sword will lose.
Is the linear cannon considered a gun?

Swords are better, Why? Because they take a lot more skill. guns do take some skill, but not nearly as much as swords. With a gun all you have to do is press a button ,well it's really a trigger. With a sword you have to disarm your opponent. But I have to admit, guns are a lot more powerful and therefore would win.
Swords are cooler but I'd rather have a gun.

Well, it really depends on the context. I find swords cooler as I've never seen one up close before. I am particularly interested in knives/daggers that is meant for jungle-trekking as it is highly practical and convenient.
Although guns are highly entertaining in gunfights scenes, I am quite wary of such weapons which may kill unintentionally in a split second. The difference is obvious: guns shoot further and faster than swords. But because of this, guns may kill someone else if you miss, missing your opponent in swordplay usually meant that you're in trouble unless you regain composure quickly.
Maybe it's just me who prefer weapons that do not kill. Not that quickly, at least.

I like swords because they look cooler i guess you could say but guns can be cool too. But i dont think they cool as cool they just sound cool.

Haha...I think swords look cooler too...(I'm thinking of Rurouni Kenshin) but now we are living in a quite peaceful world, i don't see the need to bring swords or guns around (in my country it's illegal) unless we are any of the law-enforcers...
If you are talking about serious fighting, guns will be better than swords because they can kill over a long distance...
Well technically guns are stronger because by the time you strike them they're already shot dead... but swords look so much better.
Even if I do find swords and katanas much cooler than guns or other armaments, i would prefer to use a gun to protect myself in this day and age. Wielding a sword properly takes practice, effort and skill. Guns, in my opinion, would definitely be easier to master. And guns or rifles will have the advantage regardless the range, whether it be point-blank, melee, or long-range.
I'm training several martial arts know for about 16 years and i have to say that a knife always wins against a gun in a range under 26 feet, just because to draw the gun and slacken it take some time and than you have to aim to.
resently i had some traininglessons with some people from the german sek ( it`s like a swat unit in usa ). they are also training knife fights in the range under 26 feet cause to draw a knife and run these 26 feet takes you under 2 second when you are well trained, the shooter on the other hand has to draw his gun slack it and than must take aim to wich also costs you between 2 and 3 seconds, wehn your well trained at the gun . so the outcome of this fight would be a fifty-fifty thing, but at a range of 18 feet and less the knifeman always will win ( the same is true for a swordsman also )
so you could say in any fight that is not an head on situaion with a rnge under 26 feet it would probably better to have a gun.
but for myself i would always give the sword a try cause like some here said before a sword just looks way much cooler than a gun.
