Anyone else upgrading since AMD is price cutting their X2's?

With all this Conroe excitement and AMD trying to counter with MASSIVE price cuts, i'm wondering has anyone taken the plunge also to upgrade their systems. At these great deals I couldnt resist, so i just purchased an AMD 64 X2 5000+ for the AM2 socket. This, from a AMD 3400+ socket 754. I fiqure i could use the extra speed and dualcore ability of the 5000+. So, have you taken the plung?

Saw a 52% pricedrop on a X2 4800 I might pick one up since they are so darn cheap now.
But I'm gonna buy a Conro too to create a Media center PC based on geexbox.

I might, but I'm happy with my present single core 3500+. Upgrading still costs a bunch of money which I rather spend on different things atm. But AMD's pricedrop is cool.
I did! The very second they dropped on mwave i bought one... then, 15 minutes later, they sold out!
Kind'a reminded me of the PS2 back in Nov 2000.
My Current System: after the upgrades!
AMD Athlon 64 X2 - 4200
2 Gigs Crucial Memory
Leadtek GeForce 7600GT
Chaintech AV-710 Soundcard /w BeyerDynamics 280 Series Headphones
Enermax Liberty 400WATT PSU
17" 8ms LG LCD /w DVI Cable
Seagate 320 Gig SATA2
Hitachi 250 Gig ATA133
Samsung 18x DVD+/-RW
et cetera, et cetera...
It's such a good time to upgrade to dual core. Pentium Ds are looking soo nice right now, 98 bucks for the lowest end Pentium D, and very very cool on idle temps on stock. No wonder people are getting up to 3.5 Ghz or so on air - or so i've read on other forums.

Yes i did too ^^
Now i have an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ combine with 2 Gigs of memory and a 7900GTX :-D

Haha. I was almost going to get a 7900, but decided on a 7600. I won't play games in any higher resolution than 12x10, and since this is most 17" lcd monitor resolution, it kind'a works out nice. My rationale, why pay for higher bandwidth of the 7900 if you arn't going to use it. Also the 7600 is like the lowest power consumer of like the last 3 generations of cards - 126 watts; using the equation of amps x volts.
However, the 7900 and one of those new viewsonic widescreens combined are tre'excellent. You'll be saying "Je suis Batman"!

I'd love to, but if I'm going to upgrade I think its better to buy a new PC, since I doubt my computer can handle the dual-core.

Hey $artimas, can you see the benefits from the X2. Like multitasking, its there a noticiable difference compared to a single core AMD 64?
Yes, the benefits, at least in windows xp, are immediately noticable. For instance on a single core Trillian, Outlook and everything else would load one after another, albeit really quickly - this was on my old 3500+. On the dual core everything loads up at the same time, you can visually see all applications load all at once.
Windows yes - games, not so much.

I'd rather get a E6300 when the price setttles down to MSRP @ around $180, it outperforms the 4400+
I'm going to be picking one up around Christmas...
I plan to use my birthday cash on a Wii and then Christmas cash on the new processor (The 3000+ isn't quite cutting it)

C2D are excellent CPUs. I would consider them a the true successor to Pentium 3. It only took intel like 7 years to do it. That said, most retailers have a surplus of "old" pentium 4 and pentium D cpus now-a-days.
Pentium D surplus' are very nice. Getting a dual core that O/Cs well for under a 100 bucks is something else.
If your not getting a c2d, or planning to... the amd x2 will be a great choice. btw... $artimas, if you see this.. wut dvd burner do you have (model number) cuz you said yours was 18x, havent seen one around O.o and is your 7600 loud, i heard the fans were loud >.> just curious.. thx
btw, if you plan to get c2d for gaming, dont think about it cuz in real world performance, the video card will become a bottleneck

The 7600 is very quiet. Leadtek has been, or what I would personally consider, a pioneer in heatsinks for videocards since the giant ass butt heatsink on the Geforce 4400.
Probably, If i had to do it all over again, I would buy the Pentium D 950 and use an intel chipset. nForce 4 is great, but the drivers/features are buggy and/or suck, such as: NAM, PATA, and NCQ support. I have been able to get everything stable downclocking my ram to 333 spec and using only WHQL certified drivers, which means for my DVD-RW to work without corruption I need to use the windows standard dual channel ide drivers, and not the included (non certified and buggy) pata drivers that are included with forceware.
Hindsight is truely 20-20 for technology. ~Yee haw.
Wut media do you use to burn at 18x O.o
