Which series of Final Fantasy Storyline is the best? Why?

The storyline is good and I love the chara artwork for Sephiroth and Cloud!
And I very happy when I watch the Film.. (Advent Children)!
I hope, Square Enix will made next FF greater!!

I agree.... FF vii is my favorite too. I love the unexpected twists in the story and the art work is just beautiful ^^ .
I watched Advent Children in japanese and I didn't understand most of it =(, just a couple of words.. All I understood was they were looking for their mother. I seriously need to watch it in English...

You do know, that everyone is going to just say ff7 right? There are so many final fantasy 7 related threads and posts -_-, oh well.
For me it would have to be Final Fantasy 7 because of the story mostly. I so caught up in it when aerith died, and clouds past is all made up taking on anothers memorie. and the movie advent children, whoa!! that was awesome, the cg beautiful, story was low though, but cg dope, and to think all the movement in the movie was all hand drawn..crazy.
A friend told me that the FF game you will like the most is the one you played first, and the first one I played was FF7 (which I think most of the people did since it was the first FF game out for PS). I really hope they remake it for PS3 cuz the Opening movie that was made on PS3 was AWESOME.
FF9, just so awesome! the way steiner and that other female character fight their way out of alexandria against all those monsters
I also think Final Fantasy VII has the best storyline because I love the mix of sci-fi with fantasy. I'm more of a sci-fi fan anyways. The characters have much more depth - the only other FF I think that had a lot of depth to its characters was Final Fantasy X.
I think the FF with the weakest storyline and character development would have to FF IX. It was a very standard and average rpg.

I really liked FF3 for the SNES (later remade for the PSX FF:Anthologies). The music from that one has always been my favorite, and I like that you really got to explore many of the characters backgrounds, not just the main character. Remarkable character work in my opinion. I feel like many of the other FF kind of skip over some of the side characters...like Cait Sith in FF7, what was his deal?
Tactics. If that doesn't count, FFIV.
FFVII's story was of so cliché-ridden and poorly orchestrated it's not even funny. Some character dying != deep story.

FFVI was my favourite. It just felt so epic, and was so emotional back when I played it as a kid. And the music was the best in a FF series to date.

lol i like that one...and also the pitch to get the game "Come save the world!...again...this time with headaches and a BIG sword!"
i swear...the story was so shallow that you couldn't get your feet wet...now if you want an engaging storyline within this game series...look no further than FFVI
I would have to say final fantasy X by far. Sure final fantasy VII revolutionize the RPG industry, final fantasy X storyline was more real and in debt or something like that. I dont know i enjoyed final fantasy X storyline more than final fantasy 7. But hey thats just me. Who cares
Final Fantasy 7 is most definitely the one with the best storyline.
Going from the beginning of the game, where the only objective was to try and stop Shin-Ra, to figuring out who you really were in the past, and what it had to do with current events, to stopping the destruction of the entire world, and having all of this entangled in one huge story arc that blended seemlessly together, is an achievement only a few have attained.
Here's to ou Final Fantasy 7, may your story live on in legend

That has to be the worst analysis of the FF7 storyline I have ever seen. How the hell can you come away from the game with that description? Did you skip all of the text?
Also, if FF7's story is what you consider the epitome of tales in the world gaming, the library of RPG's you have played must be awfully small.

i concurr with Orchid....there ARE better RPGs out there with better storylines....but if you liked FFVII...go and play FF 4, 5, or 6...they have IMMENSELY vast stories and do not utilize the killing of one character to define "sad moments"
