Because, despite Jim Morrison's teachings, the west is not the best.
One: Because it's more varied.
Two: It's more interesting.
Three: Stories are better.
Four: Characters are waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy cooooleeeeeeeeeerrrrr!
Five: Mecha is just plain awesome.
Six: The uh.... unmentionables... I mean... the girls and their sexiness...
Seven: Japanese people are cool.

Because there are shows that interest me and are made for adults. With the exception of the Simpsons, there aren't any adult cartoons. Family Guy and and ATHF and South Park don't count, their humor is juvineal at best. Anime on the other hand, there is a wide varity of every type of show that fits the adut fare crieteria. Plus there are a bunch of "WTF was that about? level of confusion, which I love and you can't get it in live action and they won't make it in american animation.

The story's good, the voice actors are simply FAB, the drawings are good, very sophisticated in many ways, unlike western supermans or power puff girls, they're just thick...I think they're the most developed man-drawn ways of life descriptions ever possible for distribution on TV or any electric computer devices -__- (k this is long) and they're very very entertaining. first, you never come across such a good anime as Gundam Seed Destiny about war and stuff anywhere other than in Japan^^

Well, it is because of the character design of course... the character that in the japanese animation is working well and cool! but the other cartoon is bad at the character design... beside it, japanese animation is also got nice storyline... well, i think that's all! :)

The plans of how they portray and bring out the character, the story, the drawings >> they certainly captures you more. Plus the effects of the voice actors somewhat draws you into anime as well...

I like japanese anime better because, their story, the characters, the sound effects, the style, the love and stuff, the sadness, the coolness, the not as gay as spongebob, it's like, so much action, while western cartoons are all about comedy but have no cool action, but if a western person draws anime, i think it just ruins it, because i believe that they will mess up japanese anime, like the Anime Style Cartoons they already have released on Cartoon network, like Samurai Jack, i think that's american im not sure..

American cartoons are more geared towards kids and anime is aimed at everyone of all ages..
Ditto, and in anime you can actually find *mature* films and ones that do not go ga-ga right after some bare skin. Also, anime isn't suffering that much from Hollywood'ism; mass-production that will satisfy Average Joe (a.k.a: Brainless Joe) but not a nit-pick like me.
Truth to tell, I'm so sick full of western films due of the simple fact that you can, in majority of cases, already tell what is coming miles away. They do not even TRY being different.
Camparing anime and cartoons is like comparing apples and oranges. As was already mentioned anime is geared much much more towards adults and cartoons basically strickly kiddy slapstick comedy although there are a few acceptions like Gargoyles , Batman the animated series "before it got retarded" and even superman was pretty darn good for awhile. If they made more american cartoons like those it would give anime a run for its money but unfortunatly thats not the case.
